  1. Hae Soo's hairstyle and dress from the preview for ep 16 look awfully familiar. It looks like we'll finally be getting the scene that LJG posted with him shirtless and IU standing in the background! Also, if the makeup department bothered to take the time to have the scars added on LJG's back, I'm going to assume that's because he'll actually be shirtless at some point, which I'm so down for.

  2. The show got so rapid recently, which I'm not complaining about at all because we're finally getting somewhere, but I just wish that the first 10 episodes wouldn't have been so boring in comparison to these. Also, why have the odd numbered episodes been a constant step back for So-Soo recently? I bet we'll get some cuteness in ep 16 (mostly likely after the arrow scene) and then some other over-dramatized issue in ep 17 to sort of undo it.

I know Eun and Deok will probably die the next episode, but until that happens I'll be in vicious denial because they literally just started acting like a married couple after 3+ years of actually being one. Maybe it'll all be a part of an elaborate setup? The fact that Eun went to follow his wife even though it pretty much meant certain death was so heartbreaking though, because the scene with the toy towels just showed how unfair it was that he was the one being attacked when he was trying to stay removed from it all.

But as a highlight, Baby So was so cute! That flashback broke my heart because I think Mu would have genuinely been such a great ruler if he hadn't been slowly poisoned by Wook and Chaeryung (who, speaking of which, I'm getting increasingly annoyed at). The time travel plot is finally being reintroduced again (but I hate those "visions" because Soo is sort of weak minded right now and the last thing she needs is weird premonitions telling her that So is going to go berserk), I think most notably when Ji Mong said that even he hadn't anticipated Yo becoming king because something had changed. I guess the show is trying to steer us to the conclusion that Soo being there changed history (and set it into the one we know today)? That maybe Yo was never meant to be king, but because she was there, the whole Wook plotline happened, which more or less allowed Yo to gain power. I can't wait until she figures out that by trying to avoid everything she's actually the one directly causing all these events she feared.

But So and Wook have basically exchanged wardrobes now, lol. Now Wook's the one in all black (how has Soo still not noticed? Has she never watched a modern k-drama? He's even got the evil-guy eyeliner) and So's wearing colour.

  3. I laughed when So asked if Soo had been in love with Jung, although I can sort of see why. He literally said himself that all kinds of love are the same to him, and so when he sees Soo being affectionate with pretty much anyone else, he doesn't quite understand it (emotionally stunted by all those fire arrows lol). Also, maybe because he already classifies Wook and Soo as family and never really thought about it again? Just like how I'm sure he'd go to extreme lengths to protect Baek Ah, he probably thinks it's another familial issue between them.

Again, we see marked differences between the two versions, with SBS clearly So-centric, while the international allows us more access to Wook's feelings through Chae Ryung, and his deepest motivations, which he reveals to Queen Hwangbo and Yeon Hwa, much to their shock, that he ultimately turned traitor because of Hae Soo. And the multiple references to key scenes in the original, beautifully transposed here, yet ominous in what it may hold down the road.

    Additional scenes from SBS version:
    5. Baek Ah explains that So gave her a verse from Wang Wei's poem "Zhongnan Mountain Retreat" when he gave her So's letter
    6. So's monologue as Soo reads his letter over and over again - a repeat of what he told her before about thinking of her when he was an ambassador, and wanting to live in peace with her, without whom the position of king is meaningless to him [31:57 to 32:22]
    7. Soo repeatedly reading and writing So's letter, ending with her in tears

    Additional scenes from International version:
    1. Chae Ryung telling Soo that Wook still feels misses her, after mentioning how Wook freed her to enter Damiwon

    5. Wook revealing to Queen Hwangbo and YH that he is helping Yo stage the coup, and admitting his decisions are because of Hae Soo.

Yeah, it seems like SBS is retroactively trying to put more of the focus on Wang So, which makes me glad but also sort of worried because that means that the original script was still aiming to draw out the Wook/Soo loveline this late into the show. I watched the international version and remembered feeling really irked at how they were still trying to emphasis Wook and So's basically nonexistent relationship at this point, but I'm glad to see that SBS has tried to amend that.

OMG, did you have to point that out?!! :P:D (pun intended) Now, I can't unsee it.

***drag my mind back out of the gutter, and off to wash it with bleach***

Lol I'm pretty sure that's his index finger if you look closely enough—I think he was trying to play with her and was pretending that he was going to stick his finger in her mouth when she yawned.

Are there any other dramas that have almost kisses scenes as good as the ones in Moon Lovers? I feel like their almost kisses are better than most kiss scenes in other dramas I've seen. I love that their relationship is built on a friendship where they can joke around with each other.

Queen In-hyun's Man is another historical drama that has some pretty great kisses. It also has the exact kind of ending that I sort of wish ML would have—not a reincarnation of the guy, but the actual dude there. The farther we get into this show, the more worried I am about how it'll end!

Mu's death then, apparently. Do you guys think he'll be killed in Yo's surprise attack, poisoned, or just die because of an illness? That blood coming out of his mouth makes me think that it'll be one of the latter two.

Also, if all goes well with the baseball scheduling, then only two more days to go! I can't believe they've already started releasing bts of unaired scenes—they must know that we're getting impatient, lol.

I lurk on the Reddit forum and someone posted this:

Can anyone here corroborate the above? Did MLSHR pull a Cheese in the Trap?

If it is true... That would explain their pacing issues (over halfway through the show and only now as the main political plot line come into action). I like KHN and all, but I think there's something so wrong with changing the show's original plans just because someone got too enamoured with an actor and wanted to make them some kind of star or something.

Mostly this is just me being bitter though, because so far I feel like Wang So really hasn't been the lead in the show. He was barely present in the first few episodes and even now he's still being pushed aside so Wook has more time to be his necessarily indecisive angsty self on our screens. It's just because we all know that LJG is such a great actor and the fact that he's being so underutilized is awful.

If that's not the case, then the writer should probably plan better next time, lol.

  9. Oh god episode 13 was such a big emotional wallop for me. The scene where Wang So visited the king on his deathbed was damn near perfect (including the slow rise of the music) and I actually really enjoyed seeing WH/BA.

There's that photo from Seohyun's instagram of her, BA, and WS eating together in casual clothing (although it literally just might be bts of them on a break)—we haven't seen a scene where they're dressed like this yet, right? So maybe in the next two episodes, after Yo takes the throne, BA and WS (and maybe HS?) flee to Hubaekje for a little while to plan?

BUT HONESTLY THAT PREVIEW I had been thinking about how cute it would be if HS actually initiated any sort of interaction with WS, really, because in the past few episodes it's been only him driving the relationship, AND I GOT THIS LIKE LJDISJSMADSIJWS.

Something that's been bugging me since episode 9 is how people put down Hae Soo whenever she rejects Wang So. I understand that he really likes her and would do anything for her , but that doesn't mean she has to reciprocate his feelings to the same degree.

Personally (I can't speak for anyone else here), I've never really complained about Hae Soo rejecting Wang So. I just really dislike the fact that she can't seem to separate her own worth from Wang Wook's anymore—I know she's in love and pining, but seeing her suffer and hearing her say that it's all okay so long as Wook thinks of her still (seriously?) is painful.

  11. At the rate this thread is going, we might be at 1000 pages by the end of tomorrow, lol.

I was (more than) a little annoyed at today's episode, mostly because I felt like it completely undid all the positive progress Hae Soo made in episode 11, but I'm hoping that tomorrow's will be better. At the very least, I hope Joon Gi gets more screen time!

  12. I need to vent.

I started ML because I was promised a strong-willed, modern female lead and Lee Joon Gi as the male lead. Instead I got Hae Soo The Lap Dog and Wang So The Eternal Second Lead. I care less about Wang So and Hae Soo getting together than I care about the fact that Hae Soo has no autonomy. She defines herself so much through Wang Wook that it's almost pathetic—I think at this point she thinks her only purpose there is to be loved by Wang Wook. The girl has no ambitions or motivation whatsoever anymore. Just the dude.

I stopped watching k-dramas because they do this so often: the crappy love triangle, the girl who can do nothing but pine and stare and then pine some more, and then a rushed, inconclusive ending. I was hoping that this would be different, and I was right—somehow, in this version, the writers managed to make the second lead an even bigger character than the first lead!

God, plot issues aside, I think the pacing problems are starting to become even more evident now. We're going on to episode 13 and the bulk of the important details still haven't been worked out. The writers spent entirely too much time building up Wook and Soo's romance that they forgot about the nasty political side temporarily and only realized it mid-way. I'm pretty much only watching for LJG's acting and NJH's beautiful face now.

(IU must have said that this episode was the most fun for her because it didn't require her to act whatsoever. Just stare at the camera with wide eyes. What a waste.)

But one thing does not make sense to me, why did WS give WW evidence to prove HS's innocence? if WW did not deliver, why did WS not act on it himself? I understand that his mother threatened that if he were to report to the CP, she would say that she did it so WS could be king, and sow further discord between him and CP.  So he did not give his mother in to prevent further discord? i have trouble understanding this, if he is not afraid to die to save HS, why is he afraid that more discord will be sown btw him and CP? or did i miss something from the subtitles?

Most likely because everyone knows Queen Yoo did it but no one has actual proof of it. Stupid example, but it's sort of like how nowadays there are well known criminals (usually in mobs/the mafia) that are never actually arrested (even though they have a reputation) because of a mixture of nasty politics, corruption, and a lack of concrete evidence. The maid that should have delivered the tea instead of Hae Soo would have helped prove Hae Soo's innocence if, like, WOOK HADN'T KILLED HER.

I've just heard (I'm too late ) that the actors playing in Chinese version get married in real life, please correct me if I'm wrong.

I just googled it right now and they actually did (how cute)! Nicky Wu (who plays the 4th prince) and Cecilia Liu (Ruoxi) got married last year, apparently.

Also, only 2 more days now! I'm so excited to see what happens; I feel like I'm going into episode 12 almost blind because of how much we knew comparatively of episodes 10 and 11 before they aired.

  15. I probably might get some flack for this, but I think people are taking an entirely too literal approach to the drama. The whole purpose of a tv series like this is that it's mostly fictional; they pretty much borrowed some names and ran with it. So yeah, in history, Gwangjong (why the heck does that keep on autocorrecting to Gwangjobg?) marries his half sister—but there are a lot of other things recorded in actual history that the drama has purposely left out. The photo with LJG with his hair up in a topknot was next to the picture of Yeonhwa in that gold dress, but it wasn't the same photo.

I'm not saying that WS won't marry YH, but I think believing that it's 100% going to happen in the drama when we don't really have much (or any, really) basis to go by is a little too presumptive.
