omg i didn't realise so much had happened in regards to the ending. The waterfall scene shall forever be remembered as the ending scene!!!!

This has been taken down! Could someone send me a DM to another link if there is one? I didn't realise the end was out of order. I just re-read the last bits of the novel whenever I rewatch the series. I need to know the right order!!

I also thought that DH was having as much hard times as FJ or maybe even more so. FJ can atleast vent it out & share it with her aunt but DH can't share it with anyone. Everyone knew about his feelings for FJ but they can only shook their heads because their fates have supposedly been determined. Like Vengo said in one of his character interviews, DH always thought that he doesn't need love until one day he encountered a cute little fox. It was due to Vengo expressing how much DH felt mentally tortured that he had to reject FJ that the viewers can see how much DH loved FJ even though he never said so.

But I think Vengo really showed that he loved her. Just all the things he did with her/for her, that shows it, you know? I loved his DH. And their "end" to me wasn't an end (because I"m delusional) and I think these people live for soooo long, there's still time to correct fate!

Am rewatching 3l3w the 3rd time...not counting the repeated viewing of my favourite episodes...

    I have questions:

Before the great war, ZY went to retrieve his weapon from kulun & it appears the strings broke? And he had this worried look...you guys reckon he knew something bad was going to happen?

BQ says a ZY is MY's elder brother in the earlier episode? How is this possible?

Having watched ep 30 countless times, I am pretty sure that the music used when YH & Ah Li gang up on BQ isn't in the ost.  That music is used again when YH burns BQ's handkerchief & confirm BQ = SS. Does anyone know where I can get it?

MY definitely likes BQ & not in a 'teacher/student' manner...don't know why ZY had to say to MY that if he tells him how BQ sustain his body all these years, he might get confused whether his relationship with her is the 'teacher & student' or 'men & women' especially when he & zhen zhen as men can tell that MY likes BQ...

BQ definitely likes YH & the attraction begin early...right fron the start she could differentiate that YH wasn't MY (probably the only one in the show) & at her next meeting with YH in the market (next episode), she was holding hands with him.

I think they mean brother in the sense of coming of age at the same time. They've said that Mo Yuan and Ye Hua are the only sons of the Heavenly Father. Zhe Yan is a phoenix.

  4. My goodness. I just got to episode 57 and I must say I'm surprised to be really loving Feng Jiu and Dong Hua's tragic love story. Also I actually think it captures much of the novel really well. Except for the fact that he remembers her from the beginning, this has lots of elements that we've seen. Enough for me to be able to convince myself that he could (in the future) do what he did in the books ,,

    Spoiler

Which is to defy fate in order to be with Feng Jiu. He's clearly loved her all along, even if he couldn't properly act on it and he's protected her as best as he can. I really wish this production company and actors would follow this series up with the Pillow Book. I actually think they could do part two of the book without destroying the story we've seen on screen so far. Start with Aranya's dream because that's got some amnesia stuff. It could totally work.

Edited to add: Wonder how long Mo Yuan would have slept if he'd been placed in a basalt coffin in the sea of innocence? Probably not 70000 years, eh? Meddlesome Bai Qian.

  5. Poor Kongpope. But poor Arthit too! I thought he did really well, he's sorting himself out (man he was so cute in the bathroom!), he's not rejecting Kongpope outright and if he's not equipped to deal with what's happening he may be running away but at least he's not acting terribly either. Kongpope just needs to slow down a little. I swear if I didn't have @delightful to reassure me I don't know what I would do. This show is so amazing. I can't wait for next week already.

I tried the comments on the bottom suggestion and it looked weird/messy and it 'competes' with the actually subtitle. I think I'll keep it at the top, but I'll make it a little longer. I didn't know people liked my comments that much. LOL! I don't know about adding more, I only add it when I get excited about something. I actually had a lot of stuff to say during the episodes, but I deleted a lot of them because I felt like there was too much. Like the part when Maprang and Praepailin came over to ask them why the seniors were all friendly with them and Maprang said she liked P'Arthit and the camera focuses on Kongpope's face... trust me.. my inner .. don't you dare touch my pink milk monster comments flew out of my mouth.. But I held myself back, because I didn't want to overload the episode with my comments.  ^_^

Someone suggested I used maroon as the shadow/outline, it actually didn't turn out so bad. You need to click on it and view it at full screen/full size.

    testing_subtitles.png

Actually out of the three options the red is the hardest for me. The white works the best because it's a dark background but the middle on would probably work best overall. I think the number of comments you have now is just right, not too distracting and emphasising the important bits.

Okay, so I've been wanting to ask this for some time now but just never got the chance... fine, I forgot, okay? ... Anyways, for the subbed episodes, what do you guys want? I mean the font, size, and the color .... do you guys care as long as you can read it? It's one of those things that I've never gotten down quite right. If you guys haven't noticed I keep on changing the font color, does that bother you guys? I was thinking of just sticking to one color.. what color would it be for SOTUS? Pink for pink milk? LOL! As for font and size... I was going to just stick with one from now on too. Or do you guys want something different in each episode? .. Or am I over-thinking this? I need episode 9 so bad right now! :tears:

I love the way you do your subs now. I like how you have your own thoughts up top. The only thing I would suggest is maybe leave it a second longer? Cos it's hard to read if there are subs to read at the same time. But for me the size and colour of the fonts are working but I must admit I didn't notice a change. Is it white down the bottom and yellow for the top?

I will try my best to remember that too, if you read my earlier posts about this topic I was always on the 'no seme/uke' side, but translating the GMM live chat kind of changed my mind. I understand your frustration now and thank you for pointing it out in this manner. I will seriously try my hardest to remember, but you know that I'm bound to slip, because of my over thinking, I tend to write/say stuff without focus. So if I do slip please kindly remind me again, okay? ;)

Oh, please don't get me started on the 'rape' issues in straight or gay themed movies/dramas. I seriously can't even start to excuse myself for allowing it to be 'normal' in the materials I used to watch. *slaps self*

Translation is done. Now... editing... -_-

It's very hard not to buy into the 'seme/uke' set up, especially when the actors are contributing their own opinions! Plus the tsundere male lead and the flirty younger guy dynamic is so adorable its hard not to ascribe those roles because they fit perfectly the 'type'. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I certainly don't want to police anyone's behaviour or make them feel bad. As I said before I just really liked that SOTUS wasn't explicitly  seme/uke because I feel that concept is more reflective of real life gay relationships.

Yaoi/BL is targeted to young straight women (as far as I'm aware anyway) and I can't help but sometimes compare myself to Pang (Lovesick) in my own excitement for BL stuff. I love BL/Yaoi but I do think it applies heteronormative ideas of gender dynamics (where the uke = woman) and I feel like the idea that penetration as somehow making the uke 'lesser' evidences a (probably subconscious) bias against both women and gay men, which I really (obviously) reject. I should also emphasize I don't object to 'Seme/Uke' roles so much as the idea that the bottom is 'less than' the top. In fact I love seeing the pushy bottom played out (I think Mick from OhmMick is a pushy bottom - and he is adorable!).

Anyway I also want to say @delightful I wasn't intentionally calling you out! I hope it didn't come across that way, it was just something that I wanted to say and your post gave context. I love all your work and your insights so please don't feel pressured by me or my opinion. :) Thank you for your translations and your hard work.

. And the most important thing, I know Bittersweet never confirmed, but from all the materials we have we know Kongpope is the 'seme' in the relationship...

I thought Bittersweet and the novel made it clear that there isn't a seme/uke relationship, it's a 'real life' like relationship rather than one forced to fit a heteronormative idea of same-sex relationships. I realise that the characteristics of the couple 'fit' the idea of 'seme/uke' but since the author didn't make that explicit connection I feel like we should probably respect that. Just my two cents though. :)

Edited: Not trying to start another heated discussion though, I just admired the author's decision not to make it explicit. I do have issues with the way some Yaoi fans seem to think about 'uke's' (and sometimes how they are portrayed) - as if they are somehow not manly. I think this particularly evident when people talk about semes and say they don't want them to bottom (Why is that the case, exactly?). As much as I love BL, the disregard bothers me (as does the rape = love trope that we see too often).

I agree with everything you just said 16.gif It is indeed f*cked up..... Omg talk about camera tricks with MIR haha it was sooo bad but they did kiss for real I think it was on episode 3 (?)

There was supposed to be "tongue action" on an episode of club friday (I saw that in a teaser for the episode) but they cut the scene (completely, they didn't even release an uncut....) Oh yeah and the movies.... The kisses in thaï movies actually make me cringe! It seems like it's everything or nothing lmao :D

About MIR season 2, I also hope he's gonna dump his gf..... What an a$$hole btw, he's being all upset by Tee's attitude and yet he doesn't even have the balls to break up with his gf... I feel bad for her, I mean she's being cheated on and no one seems to notice or give a sh!t about it they're all like "Tee and Fuse are sooo sute" . Guys, Fuse is a cheater!!!! I prefer Frame and Book's couple, much more interesting to me 16.gif

Oh my god, I totally agree. I actually didn't bother with the last 2 episodes of MIR because I knew that Fuse was too weak to dump his girlfriend. Not cool. I feel bad for Jean and Tee.

My tolerance for attempted rape in Thai dramas has totally disappeared (it's terrible that I ever had tolerance in the first place). It's abusive, it's not romantic. Ugh.

I would rather they cut away for kisses rather than fake them. It's totally obvious and always pulls me out of the scene.

@erngust OMGG i watched it yesterday... From the comments they say that there is no story btween them after this..can u please tell me if its true if u know... Their relationship was so messed up in the series like ARE THEY A COUPLE OR NOT DAMMIT thanks!!♥

The drama showed us about as much (maybe even a bit more) than what was in the book. There were extra chapters of the novel with a focus on Mo x KO story line published after the novel. They are great and are mostly focused on after they moved in together. http://bookbychapters.com/a-beautys-smile-is-also-charming-part-1/

I should be putting these under spoiler tags, sorry... :sweatingbullets:

Well, essentially that's what it boils down to. When Kongpope decides he wouldn't make P'Arthit feel uncomfortable by trying to talk to him, it has P'Arthit realizing what Kongpope means to him. He starts to miss those interactions and he realizes he himself isn't the same anymore. And when they were 'confined' together at the wedding, because they had to take photos together, he couldn't help but speak to Kongpope. And to make it worst Kongpope doesn't act the same towards him and even tells him not to force himself.

You guys know what? From that beach scene to the kiss scene on the bridge... there's only a 2 week time difference. SO!!! In just 2 weeks time, they'll be DATING!!!!! *faints* (even though it'll be more like 2 months for us.)

Amazing! God I can't wait. Feel free to tell us more, if you're feeling up to it. Gah these two. Saturday's can't come fast enough. Thank you thank you thank you.

This is for people like me who are going crazy about ep.9 and want to see it like RIGHT NOW! I'm sure it'll be filmed a little differently, but most of their dialogues should be the same. They're pretty consistent with the lines. Please do NOT click if you don't want to see spoilers, do NOT post this anywhere else. This is just the part about the beach/gear scene. ^_^

        "I want to apologize."

The only word that needed to be said was said with a serious tone. Along with his feelings from deep within, he wanted P'Arthit to know and wanted another chance.

Kongpope made eye contact with the person in front of him with hope, instead the answer he got was a cold reply.

        "Apologize for what?"

"Well, everything that made you upset."

"If you know I would get upset, then why did you do it?"

... Just those few words were enough to cut into the listener's heart.

Kongpope was at a loss for words, he couldn't find any reasons to give to him. It was because he himself didn't know why he did what he did.

... It wasn't that he never thought of it, he had asked himself many times why he kept on teasing P'Arthit. Why did he say things that would get P'Arthit riled up when in the end it was himself that would get worried and had to find a way to apologize every time.

        "Well... I..."

The one trying to explain mumbled as he tried to put his words together, but instead it was the listener that gave a heavy sigh as if he was running out of patience.

"Enough already, I don't want to argue with you anymore."

Arthit cut him off and headed towards his own friend's table. Leaving Kongpope alone by himself, with his heart frozen in a flash.

        ... It's gone, P'Arthit wasn't even going to give him a chance.

It was well deserved, he was the one that made P'Arthit this upset. It wasn't only once, there were lots of times, maybe to the point where P'Arthit had enough of it. To the point where P'Arthit wouldn't want to be associated with him at all.

Just the thought of it made his feelings swell up and his heart heavy, he couldn't believe that one single person could have this much impact on his heart. Someone that he has only known for 3 months, yet he could remember every detail about this person.

... Someone that had become his inspiration to do a lot of things.
... Someone who could make him laugh and smile from the little things in life.
... Someone that he wanted to get to know more of and get closer to.

... P'Arthit is the first person and he is the only one.

But from now on he wouldn't have a chance to experience those things anymore. If P'Arthit doesn't want to get involved with him, he'll be the one to disappear from P'Arthit's sight. So that he can be at ease.

Kongpope kept all his emotions and feelings bottled up in his heart. He turned around and was about to walk away. But before he could take a step, he felt something cold on his neck that made him flinch. He turned around quickly to see what it was, his eyes widened when he saw the man that had given him the cold shoulder earlier. He was handing him a can of beer and asked a short question.

        "Do you want a drink?"

Kongpope took the cold can of beer, he was confused by the situation, he looked at the person he thought he wasn't going to see anymore. Arthit sat down on the beach right there, opened the can of beer and took a sip with a relaxed expression, to the point where he couldn't help but ask.

"I thought you didn't want to talk to me anymore."

"I said I didn't want to argue with you anymore, but if you're going to talk to me then come sit down and talk to me nicely. Or do you not want to talk?"

        "Of course I want to."

Kongpope accepted the opportunity right away, he sat down on the beach next to Arthit... he didn't know what P'Arthit was thinking. But judging from his actions it seems P'Arthit wasn't mad at him anymore, plus he also went and got him a can of beer.

... This was also another time that he was receiving 'generosity' from P'Arthit, time after time.

Kongpope opened the can of beer and took a sip, he watched the ocean in the dark of the night. The crescent moon and stars looked prettier than any other night, the ocean breeze was gentle, the waves crashed against the shore, the atmosphere was so good that he wanted to let his heart rest. He started to bring up something that he had always wanted to know.

"Why did you become the head of the hazing team?"

        "I was forced."

... It was short and right to the point, Kongpope nearly dropped the can of beer in his hand. Arthit continued his story.

"P'Tum, my older code member was the third year head of the hazing team when I was a first year. So he forced me to follow in his footsteps."

... P'Tum the older code member, he was about to marry P'Phone who was Kongpope's older code member in about 2 weeks. He remembered them well from the two code member's gathering at the grilled pork restaurant. But Kongpope never knew that P'Tum was the head of the hazing team during P'Arthit's first year.

"Actually, I didn't want to do it. Being the head of the hazing team comes with a lot of burden, plus it wasn't my type of habit. I had a bad temper, when I grabbed your shirt collar on the first day in the cheer room I was almost removed from my position, because I went against the rules. I spoke inappropriately to you, plus I also touched your body. But my friends spoke up for me, because they didn't help stop it. So we all took the blames equally. P'Dear saw that it was my first offense so he let us off, instead he ordered us to run 20 rounds around the field."

These behind the scenes stories that Kongpope never knew about, it provoked his feelings. This was the first time he was understand things from P'Arthit's point of view. No wonder... after that incident P'Arthit never lost his cool to the point of using inappropriate words with them in the cheer room. He also changed his way of speaking to include reasons when he spoke to him. Even though the person that got P'Arthit upset in the first place was him.

The person that was repenting didn't argue, he could only say the same old words.

        "I'm sorry."

"Who cares, it's in the past, I also punished you already."

Arthit brought up his beer and took another sip, his face showing that he wasn't holding any grudges. His let his eyes wander to the wide ocean, then he heard the person next to him ask something new.

"Do you remember that I won our bet from when I competed in the Moon contest?"

The question brought back memories that was almost forgotten, but Arthit was a man of his words. He always kept his words. The loser of the bet nodded his head.

"Yeah, I remember. You figured out what you want to ask for?"

"Yes, next Saturday, are you free?"

        "Mmmh, I'm probably free."

"I want to go buy something, can you go with me?"

        "That's all?"

        "Yes."

Arthit turned to look at the person who was asking with a raised eyebrow and a confused face... He kept that penalty for 2 months, Arthit thought he was planning something big to embarrass him, but in the end he was only asking for something so simple.

        "Yeah, I can."

Once he heard the reply Kongpope gave a big smile.

"Then I want to ask for your phone number, so that I can call and give you the details."

Arthit looked at him as he pulled out his cellphone from his pocket, he pushed in the 10 digits that was given to him. As this was going on Arthit noticed something else.

"When are you going to take that thing off?"

Kongpope looked up from his phone... 'that thing', he followed P'Arthit's eyes to his own left wrist that was holding the phone.

... The wrist that had only one white strand tied around it.

"Why? I think leaving it like this is good, I won't take it off."

His determination came with a smile, his eyes looking into Arthit's eyes, it was sparkling something, something that Arthit couldn't figure out. But it created such a weird feeling that he had to avoid Kongpope's eyes. Before either of them could continue with their words, another voice from behind them interrupted.

"Arthit! Ai'Arthit! Where are you? Come here!"

The members of the hazing team were looking for their leader to return to the table. The person being called got up and dusted off the sand and was about to turn around.

        "I'll get going."

        "Hold on."

Before he could leave Kongpope stood up and stopped him.

"I have something to give you."

        "What is it?"

        "Open your hands."

The person being asked was starting to get annoyed. But in the end he still opened up his free hand, he saw Kongpope pull something out of his pocket and laid it onto his hand. The silver metal shaped like a gear that he had just sent hundreds of first year students to go get.

... The gear of their class.

"Why are you returning it to me?"

Arthit scolded, his anger was starting to show... he thought they would have a nice talk, but in the end he always found something to make him mad about. Returning the gear for their class like this was a disgrace to someone that was the head of the hazing team.

But the person being accused quickly gave him a reason.

"No, I'm just having you take care of it."

"And why are you having me take care of it?"

Kongpope didn't answer, instead he showed a surprised face.

"Ah... you don't know? I thought you would already know what this meant. Then why don't you go ask P'Dear what it means."

That statement didn't give him any answers, but it just added to the confusion... what was the meaning of the gear? And why did he have to go ask P'Dear? He was the head of the hazing team, he knew how important the gear was.

Arthit was about to open his mouth to yell at the person that was acting like he was holding back, but the noise from his friends came again.

"Hey! Ai'Arthit we've already set the table, hurry up!"

Arthit eyed Kongpope, who wouldn't say anything else. He moved aside for Arthit to return to the table easily. He decided to accept the gear and shoved it into his pants pocket. He returned to the table to join his seniors.

And lucky enough, one of the senior was someone that held the answer to the mystery.

"P'Dear, what does our class gear mean?"

The fourth year senior looked at the current head of the hazing team with a confused look before walking over to sit next to him.

"Why are you asking something weird like that? Are you drunk?... The gear represents our unity, and it's important to us engineer students, because it was hard to obtain."

The more he heard the answer the more annoyed he got... see? Ai'Kongpope, what other meaning could there be? Ai'0062, he probably just wanted to mess with him. It was a waste of time to talk to him nicely.

Arthit brought up the beer and took a big chug to calm his anger. P'Dear continued to add as if he had just remembered the rest of it.

"Yeah... it's because of it's importance that it is considered to be the engineering student's heart. To the point where they say 'the gear is within the heart... the heart is within the gear... if we give our gear to someone... that means we're giving them our heart."

... The beer almost shot out of his mouth, Arthit started coughing. P'Dear started to help by hitting his shoulder.

"Drink it slow, you're coughing so hard that your face is red. Are you really drunk off of just one can of beer?"

P'Dear asked with a laugh. But Arthit couldn't laugh along, instead he nodded in acceptance without a fight.

         "Yes, I'm drunk."

... Yes... it's because he is drunk that's why his heart is shaking like that. And his face started to burn up too. But his drunkenness wasn't because of the alcohol, nor was it because of the wind, sky, or ocean, but it was from that gear.

... The gear he had accepted from someone.

Whoops quoted the wrong one. But still any spoilers are very much appreciated. I wish I could work out how to sign up for the line group. But you are getting me through with your amazing spoilers.

  13. Ugh I felt so bad for Kong in this episode, his friends are totally c#ckblocking his seduction. I do have to say while I found their antics rude and immature on Arthit's behalf (and the lovelorn Kong), I did think it was pretty normal for them to get together and drink (even to the point that I could imagine the Hazing team doing the same in their freshman year). It was just bad luck in the form of the lovely, concerned P'Arthit that exposed them. But the second thing (to act out the Kong/Arthit gear scene) was just too rude. It was a bit sad that these guys hadn't learnt much about respecting their seniors after all. The resolution (video and gear ceremony) was fantastic though, because it showed the freshies exactly why they should be ashamed of themselves but also started the nong/P Senior/Junior relationship anew. I like that the hazing team didn't harp on the bad form but just went on with their planned ceremony. Poor baby Arthit with his soft heart being embarrassed by those rotten kids. *shakes fist at glasses boy*.

  14. Oh man @delightful thank you for your mini translations. I'm so pumped for the translated ep 8. (no hinting here, just excited for it when it happens) I just finished watching the raws and ugh, this show! I luff it too much! When Arthit's voice gets all soft, I get all melty. Same with Prem actually. That video was tooo cute! Even though I didn't understand what they were saying it was just adorable. For some reason it felt like a video they took before the hazing started, but maybe not? What say you Thai speakers. Did they film that after the hazing had already happened?

How can one adore an entire cast of actors. Usually in any Thai show there's at least 2 or 3 detestable people. But no, this place is just filled to the brim with awesome.

Question about the "Ai" honorific... When is it applied? It is mentioned 2 times in episode 7. The first one is when Nott talks about a student who transferred from engineering to arts, he called him Ai' Win  and when Kong asked Fang about where Arthit was, Fang called Arthit Ai' Arthit. Is it different to P or something?

Not thai and can't speak it but I assumed it would be for same age friends (P' for older, nong for young) but since Arthit's nickname is Ai-Oon maybe it's a diminutive like Xiao in Chinese (litle)? I'm really curious too, I hope a Thai speaker can enlighten us!

  16. Thank you so much @delightful you have made my day! Oh my goodness how wonderful was this episode? I loved how cranky Arthit was when he found out Kong hadn't intended to join Engineering! It's good that Kong can read him so well otherwise how could he ever overcome his grumpy outer shell? Even the smile he repressed when the freshman were showing him their spirit and the follow up dummy spit yelling that they failed (kekekekekeke). So cute.

I really loved how all the side characters showed up for their day (fourth and second years).

One thing I noticed this time was how invested all the actors were in playing their characters when they weren't the focus of the scene. They are always in character and giving something back (the reactions of the third year hazing team when things are happening). It's just so good.

I have to say, contrary to some others here I really see a lot of tension between Prem and Wad (the softness of their voices in that pharmacy scene, how nervous Wad was and Prems eyes!). I'm really excited about it. I don't care if they don't make it happen in this season but I really think they're both interested in each other. I'm so looking forward to episode 8.
