So the answer to your question is yes the pattern is very similar, it is even similar to 1997 the husband always had more screen time wheres the other guy always seemed to have luck on his side....in the end its always the girl who chooses.

PS. If NJ actually forgot oppa after they 'separated' and they showed CB and NJ relationship grow   CB would defiantly have had a chance, I also read somewhere that the writer wanted to have kind of 'a way out' if by chance Koreans  hated Oppa, maybe thats why they dated earlier on ?   Unfortunate/fortunately in this series how the story went it just  'doesnt feel like there is a way out' just like 1997  I like all of you will find it weird if TK is the husband 

 

Thanks for that. Did NJ ever reciprocate any of Chilbongies attempts to be romantic? Because all I remember is her loving Trash with blinders on.

@Kelly86 Everytime I start doubting I read the thread too. I also realised watching this video helps.

I like how Taek is in the background. I don't hate him but I love JH that much more. Call me shallow. It's okay.

I dont know if you saw 1994 but in terms of trolling it was a lot as well just like this series. I was a chilbong shipper and got trolled big time, so now i kind of know the trolling the writer does. Example: Chilbong was rarely shown in the episodes but then we had little scenes of hope...example the famous it aint over until its over, or NJ running to him in the department accident, the writer even trolled us in NJ character profile because in there there was a part that her feelings started to sway when a new kid showed up (something like that), which i believe the new kid was chilbong since Oppa and NJ knew each other all their life. What im saying is, the trolling is very similar to 1988 TK is the one that is barley shown in the beginning, then his little scenes always make him stay in the game, like in ep 17, the dreamy kiss or in ep 18 him running and meeting DS. Also dont worry if TK will be shown A lot in ep 19. As 1994 approached its ending in ep 19 CB was the one shown with NJ, which made us CB shippers believe he was still in the 'game' there was still hope.

Even though the writter can make TK the husband I believe she wont just because its kind of too late, since the concert episode until ep 18 JH is always shown being so sad almost all the time Plus JH scenes are given more importance then TK when we are seeing his feelings for DS, example: the confession, him crying in the car, him driving to DS, DS and him missing each other, dont go scene, you know all of them . I really dont believe the writer/shin PD would have made those scenes stand out if JH is not the husband, because they would have wasted time, money, and character development & otp development of the real husband & wife which is bad writing in my eyes :/

Although I didn't finish watching reply 1994 because I couldn't take the angst (I knew Trash would be the end but Chil was the one I was rooting for), I wanted to know if there were a lot of scenes of Chilbongie with NJ?

JH scenes are too many (ofcourse more the better lols) whereas TK is rarely shown. He hardly has any cute scenes with DS not even a full MV amount of scenes. And if the last two episodes do show a lot about them together, I still think it would be too late to justify him as DSs hubby.

If you compare this with Trash, NJ and Chil was it a similar pattern?

P.S. I'm asking you this because it seemed like you made it till the end ~_~ of the 1994 series. 

 

I know I really shouldn't compare and just believe in the over all story  but the "trolls" are too strong so I can't help but fall for them. I guess I'm just looking for reassurance? ...this happens every night right before I need to go to bed -__-

The next scene was DS interview in the future (which is not clear on what year/what day.) and then it's cut to SW waking up in 1994, without any information what day it was. But during breakfast, SW said to his mom that tomorrow JH is leaving and they'll go hangout together tonight. 
I thought at first JH's farewell party was a day after DS/TK concert date, but actually it was 3 weeks after. It's possible that there would be an explanation of what's happening during those 3 weeks in next episode. Now I'm wondering whether something happened with TK-DS during those 3 weeks.

Could it not be that he decided to leave early because he wants to "let go" of DS? 

That scene where mama Kim is looking through the dates, initially I thought she was checking to confirm what date JH was meant to leave? Maybe he announced he was leaving soon and that's why Mama Kim was suspicious?

i haven't really seen that scene properly..yet.

Did you guys notice DS seems so different now in terms of her behaviour. Even the adult DS(LMY) is much more chirpier. Something must be bothering the 1994 DS. She seems depressed and only gives out fake smiles...rarely jokes around. Perhaps because JH hasn't been around? I wish they would show more DS and Kim sajang gags. I love their chemistry!!!! Always makes me LOL

You know how they said THE HUSBAND will only be revealed in ep 20...I thought about it...what could they do to prolong this?

Perhaps ep 19 will be DS perspective, her feelings for JH and what she thinks about TK.

The cliffhanger that they will shoot at us at the very end of that episode could be that she goes to JH and acknowledges his confession, says that she loved him too but now it's too late...The end ...for ep 19 (this will obviously make us go ballistic)

 

Ep 20 then could BAM reveal JH as the husband and all the flashbacks will about how they got back together despite the crap "timing" ...(even the plan crash if it's true could trigger DS to realise that she is still in love with him). The episode could then focus on them dating, breaking the big news to their family and all the smoking kisses.

 

I am obviosuly day dreaming more than I should. Saturday was meant to be my last day on this thread...aigooo...yet here I am...again.

It's not even just kdramas it's everything. We as viewers (as much as we like to complain about troupes and it being repetitive and boring) like this message. We live off this message. We have this unfailing belief in true love overcoming all obstacles and going after love (and other things in life) because of these messages. Look at the popularity of 'The Notebook' That movie would have flopped harder than a dying fish if Noah & Allie didn't reunite in the end. As nice as the other dude was, we live off the idea that, that one special epic love wins out. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge would not be the timeless Bollywood hit upon hit and like internationally loved and infamously remembered and some scenes reenacted if homegirl did not run and hop on the train with her beloved after all the richard simmons they went through. Can we really say the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet would have been so popular and like the basis of love stories if Romeo and Juliet were not star crossed lovers with waring families and even death couldn't keep apart (I am not telling ya'll to go kill yourselves to  be with your boyfriend/girlfriend). I am sure there are movies like this in all our countries where everyone loves and remembers because of that one epic love story where no matter everything that came the couples way, in the end they came back to one another.

There is only one couple who fits this the cintematic theme of love prevails over everything and that is Deok Sun and Junghwan. They survived Sunwoo, they survived bro over __ code, they survived friends rooting for the other dude, they survived misunderstanding, they survived, time, they survived confusion. When you thought all hope is lost and sometimes true love doesn't win out (episode 18 anyone) we will see that no the heart goes where the heart must be. Look I am not disregarding Taek and his love,  but where were the obstacles, where was that true heartbreak of longing and yearning that these types of stories likes to display. We only saw (I said saw as in explicitly had displayed to our eyes and not need a magnifying glass to display) and got this emotional pay off with him once, once and that was when he called and cancelled the movie date and cried. We have all talked about how easy it would be for Taek and Deok Sun to be together (and their would be an easy relationship like that of Sunwoo's mama and Taek's appa) all one need do is confess. But how long have we seen Junghwan being broody, and angst, and fake laughing to hide the pain, and crying in cars and confessing but "oh lord kill my heart" does she not feel the same? He's leaving the next day, it's going to end like that? NO, there love is the challenging, hard, "epic" ones most of us like to see win out. It hasn't been an easy road for these two and it continue to not be an easy one. There are literally many a traffic lights keeping them apart...but just like Allie drove back to Noah eve though it looked like she was going to James Madersen, just like Jenny finally wrote the letter to Forrest, Oppa made the call, Yoonjae bumped into Shiwon at the cafe...Junghwan and Deok Sun will comeback to one another.

He will leave for the base and maybe as he's driving away sad as richard simmons his confession meant nothing to her, there she will be at the street corner no longer checking her watch, but smiling, see and having waited for him. Maybe he does get to the base, but I don't know. There is a group blind date between the air force and stewardess, and there she sits at the end of the table and like the secret Santa, she pulled his name as her match up. I don't know, it can be 20 years later and she's walking down the street and she'll drop something and coincidentally he'll pick it up. Fingers touch, eyes meet, and it's like no time passed at ll. It's cliche as hell, not going to be as soap opera dramatic as I'm writing (or maybe it will be) but it will happen. Everything in this story has been leading up to that moment and if it weren't going to happen and if it was going to be Taek, they had that big epic like reunion in his coming to the concert. If that is where the story truly ends, they wouldn't have had Junghwan confess. With his confession the big emotional pull comes back to him (just like the emotional pull of Taek admitting to the guys he likes Deok Sun as a woman came back to Junghwan because we saw his heart break and his pondering over the tickets. The very parallels we get in his seeing Taek get to the concert first and then thinking on it all and crying in his car. Just like with the tickets he was going to give but couldn't because the other dude was just thismuch faster. He comes to the concert and again the other dude was just that faster). If Taek were going to be the husband, they would have had him there to see/hear the confession because that would be another emotional obstacle, a challenge, a hardship to overcome, a red light on the road to being with Deok Sun. 

I can't give you guys pictures and go in deep with camera work and things like that, but I just see it LOL. It's right there, the writers and the PD and whole team have been going base by base to that home plate. It's there and I guess if you don't see it or you doubt it (sometimes it really is 3 C's that's just the way the test and the answers be) this time next week you will know LOL.

I now understand why everyone said its a BAD IDEA to check the MT thread. But being the curious fool that I am...I did check it out and to my own dismay.

 

Ugh Lord knows the torture is REAL.

I just want to say one thing. If in the end JH is not the husband than the writers played a cruel game with him and us all. And the new term that has already been coined " Jungpaled" will go down history as the term used for the most tortured souls, in this case JH- he has had it way way worse than Chilbongie. Torturing him so in my opinion was uncalled for no matter how interesting and innovative they wanted their story to be.

 

JH better get a happy ending with DS because so far he has been brooding episode after episode and it will be extremely sad to leave him like that. From a heartwarming drama this will be more of a MELODRAMA.

 The scene/gif regarding DS "looking at Taek and feeling happier" just doesn't look right to me.

 

If you see carefully, she looked at Taek and then her head moved slightly further back to look at JH.

This could quite possibly be my bias but I tested this with my brother. I made him stand behind me almost Taekie position and then my mum in JHs position and yep I tilted my head a little extra. If it was to look at Taek I wouldn't need to move my head as much as she did in that scene.

 

Ofcourse  all this is non sense if right before that scene she had already met JH?

I could be wrong obviously.

Good news guys! I feel way better after going out for a much needed walk and of course with the positive vibes in here.

1. As @papulichan previously mentioned(with clues), I too think that DS liked JH all through her childhood. Borrowing that manhwa, chocolate scene are somehow tied with JH. I can't tell you how many times I watched that Chocolate scene but I just couldn't see any definitive way she could have put that chocolate in JHs bag...perhaps it wasn't visible to us viewers. Having said that, I still believe the Chocolate was for JH. Hopefully we will get some clarification on that.

2. Because JH and DS always bickered like Tom and Jerry and the fact that she was young she didn't consider her feelings of affections for him as romantic. She loved him, she always did...cared for him more than any other friend and I think this because remember when her friends told her SW likes her her reaction to that and her reaction to JH possibly liking her was SO DIFFERENT. She asked her friends what she should do if JH liked her back because she liked the idea but was scared.

 

NEGATIVITY:

NOW, question is...has she held on to those feelings? Has she been waiting for him? Or did Taek with his apparent impeccable timing win again? During the confession with her smile and everything it certainly felt like she was touched and reminiscing all those beautiful moments  BUT WAS THE CONFESSION TOO LATE? The POV could show us that she loved JH and then also how she moved on??? And another HORRIFIC THOUGHT occurred to me if TKxDS get married...perhaps the writer to satisfy JH shippers may decide to make DSx Tk daughter HYeri and JHs son RJY a couple? Remember the film THE CLASSIC (I loved that film though)? 

I am writing this horrendous idea because just in case ...just in case...the writers linger around our thread may read this and decide not to go ahead with this horror. Because really it's not RJYx HYeri that we particularly ship (well some may) but it's JH x DS that we want in the end!

POSITIVITY:

DS could have been restless during the whole restaurant/DOOR/ confession scenario because she was waiting on some sort of news with regards to her Dad? Throughout the ep it seemed like her dad wasn't doing particularly well right? 

Also, I like the idea of another time jump to 1997 ..maybe during those years JH dated?

I also like the idea of that plan crash thing and DS running into JHz arms ...(I leave the rest to ur imagination). That reminds me @hailaft I love your fanfic and @MrsSoJiSub your imagination is extraordinary. Always manages to make me laugh.

 

TBH I am afraid to think anything positive just because feel like I will JINX it all.

Hi guys,

Sorry for sharing this but I don't really have kdrama friends around me and I discovered this lovely forum just a few weeks ago. It's my little safe haven where I can pour my heart out to like minded people. So apologies again if this gives out any NEGATIVE vibes. I haven't been able to sleep peacefully (and believe me I tried!).

Before joining this forum I was 90% sure JH was the infamous husband but the drama kept toying with my heart so it went down to 40% then I joined this forum and read all the lovely posts out here and I was 99% sure JH is the husband.

Ep18 though really tripped me! But again @wizengamot and everyone else revived my faith. So I became slightly more at ease (I am still avoiding any TkDS scenes like a plague).

 

But I think this last episode really got to me. Before this episode, I LOVED all the OSTs, the music has been amazing! I've been listening to most of them on repeat all day. They always played in my background (whilst I tried to get on with my work-keyword TRIED)

Since this last episode aired though I couldn't bring my self to play any of the songs, NONE OF THEM.

AND WHEN I DID PLAY THEM I LITERALLY FELT LIKE THROWING UP.  It's so weird. I think it's because every song whilst previously reminded me of JH and DS happy together NOW the possibility that our JH may not get the happy ending we all contemplated for him (drilled in our heads by ep 18), these SONGS HAVE LOST ALL MEANING.

NO LONGER CAN I LISTEN TO THEM FEELING CHEERFUL... imagine even SOBANGHAs dance song makes me want to PUKE AND CRY.

 

If the writers of this drama make TK the husband it just won't make sense, nothing will. It will be a BIG MISTAKE ON THEIR PART. Because this drama was beautifully shot and made when it comes everyone in general. But they will ruin it by making TK the husband.

 I just want to be able to enjoy the music again without any qualms but unfortunately I associate ALL THE SONGS played in this drama TO JH. So if JHx DS doesn't survive, the music won't either and that would be a shame.

 

I leave all my hopes in the last episode. Hopefully it will help me revive my love for this wonderful MUSIC.

The choices that we make impact the opportunities we encounter, be they missed or taken. Junghwan has been in love with Deoksun for five/six years now, and in this ep RJY perfectly acted out all his pent up regret and frustration and heartache. 

I cried with JH in this ep because for him, he thinks this is it. The end of his story with DS. Little does he know that right around the corner, sunshine is waiting to greet him.

Yh I think we are all hoping for that.

As someone previously mentioned JH character is the type that uses fewer words but speaks through actions.

Today really felt like WORLD CUP quarter finals.

Ep 19 Semi Finals

Ep 20 The BIG GAME

One more thing

I like Taek and everything but really if he wanted to back out from the game then shouldn't he just mind his own business now?? Why do you care about DS. Why can't you let her be? Why can't you let JH make the move? I mean you had 6 years dude. 6 years dude..like wtflip? You are getting on my nerves. How long does it take to consider ones feelings? When JH went away should you not have then atleast done something about it? Why are u sitting on the fence? either confess or get out of the picture! Pick one!

Had you confessed and had DS reciprocated your feelings then surely our JH could have moved on. Yet you decided to be a jerk and toy with him (by not revealing the wallet pic incident and by NOT doing any thing for the past years you gave JH hope) and  DS.

tbh I don't really see any of Taeks good characteristics - call me blind ..I don't give a donkey's richard simmons! I think he is selfish!

The thing is if atleast one person...just one other person beside JH itself knew of his feelings then we probs wouldn't feel this sad.

 

PROBLEM is LITERALLY NO ONE KNOWS HOW HE FEELS ABOUT DS.

THat for me makes it even worse ...if there was just one person who he could talk it out with, share his grief ..I feel like he would have felt better.

 

He has many friends but in actuality he is a LONELY CHARACTER.

 

My hands are still shaking  how will I move on with life. Even though it is just a drama I think a lot of people including myself have invested all our feelings in JH. He is our reality as stupid as I may sound.

I don't know guys...my head is a mess. ALL THESE DISGUSTING SCENARIOS ARE POPPING INTO MY HEAD.

 

1. TK DS kiss scene may have been a dream but it's possible that after Tk slept and DS seemed to leave the room...she may have stayed back and watched him sleep. She may have then gone over to him and kissed him. TK since was asleep didn't notice but must have felt something and therefore he dreamed it? The next day DS may have been testing him and because he said it's a relief he was dreaming she may have decided that TK doesn't really like her?

2. They may show scenes from DS perspective next since they have already showed JH. And I have a bad feeling about this.

If this is the case and this beautiful drama just turned into a melodrama and I probs  won't watch it again...or I maybe watch just until ep 16 or maybe just skip DS TK scenes altogether.

 

Now, the important question is how will WE move on??? do WE get a closure?

 

To all the optimist out there plz plz plz light some hope in me because right now I am convinced Taek is hubby and I HATE IT!
