No, you just use WinPwn 2.0 or xPwn (I followed this guide because WinPwn 2.0 wasn't out yet) to modify the 2.0 firmware you got from Apple, put your Ipod into DFU mode then do the restore. After its done, you will have a nice empty touch again
If it doesn't show up as purchased, at least see if it shows up in your AppStore. You should seriously check out some of the free programs they offer...

$100 for something with a touchscreen isn't bad, especially for an IBM since they tend to retain their value.
However, I think you will find the 600mhz and the ram a bit limiting. For what you want, yes it can do most of it... browsing, music, etc. But when you hit some flash content like Youtube I'm not sure if you will have enough speed to play it smoothly, I had a IBM T20 (850mhz) that would stutter on youtube videos but at most movies in AVI did play smoothly. And the ram... To put that 196mb ram into perspective, firefox on average uses 100mb ram... windows 2000 will do okay with 64mb ram so you would be more limited if you happen to like multitasking.
If you want to go mobile with it and 10" screen seems quite mobile, you will want a battery for it and I can't seem to find any on ebay atm but they are about 30-60.
A wireless PCMCIA wireless card goes for $20-30... but my experience with wireless+windows 2000 = pain
The ram is expensive to replace/upgrade and they don't mention the hard drive size, but I assume its about 12gb which drove me insane when I had mine.
It sounds bad, but the good side to it is its really cheap and if you have use for a throw around computer without much expectations like to chat, go on soompi, listen to some music, watch a movie if you are patient enough to transfer it in (uses old usb 1.1 not the new 2.0) its not bad all... Personally if I had the choice to get a ultraportable, I would get that over the Asus EEE and use that money I saved for other things. (Keep in mind, ultraportables are like PDAs they are a supplement but not a real replacement for a "real" computer)

I got that off of youtube, probably one of the blurriest videos I have ever seen.
I clicked a few others and had no problems reading it. Some were a bit softer though
Its about this big on the screen... and a little softer but im used to browsing websites with font sizes at this size on the mobile safari so I have no issues.
HEY ALBERT. How long does the battery of your ipod touch last for? Overall, do you think it's risky jailbreaking it.. or, is it pure ease? lol hmm i have the 16 gig v2 touch.. and.. the battery dies really fast.. for ex. no video viewing / minimum internet surfing / and 2 hours of music. I got the touch as a gift.. and.. I don't want to risk any chances with ruining it by jailbreaking ;;If you just listen to music, where the screen is off and your wifi is turned off too you should get like 20+ hours worth of music! I think even in worse case you should get at least 12 from the reviews I have read.
I would take it to an apple store to get a replacement!I am not sure how many hours I get, but its over 3 hours with browsing the internet and constantly refreshing pages with meebo.
Most of the websites out there say its impossible to brick an ipod touch. In other words... you can start the transfer and somehow disconnect the power and it will be fixable. You can corrupt the files and try to put it in and it will be fixable.
I am not 100% sure if the WinPwn is completely safe for the touch because it writes to other chips and can even change the apple power on logo to another one... but people can even survive that.
So the worse thing that can happen is you loose all the music on it and some time to reload all the internal software but I dont think its all that significant
However...
wait until july.. go in and say this thing doesn't last! Then... you will get the OFFICIAL apple supported installer for free! (When it comes out, it will cost $10 to upgrade to the 2.0 software in july [currently 1.1.4 is newest])
The app store will be like itunes. So far reports say, about 70% of the software will be free and the rest will be from $0.99+

Most likely you will have to sign up with like 2 years worth of AT&T phone service at like $60/month so you're still paying for it even after you paid for it.

No, you need to be able to connect to WiFi to go online. The iPhone can go online wherever you can get a cellular signal but its an expensive service.

Looks like what people have done was install the 1.1.4 youtube fix, uninstall, then reboot and it works. Worth a try!

Did you try the youtube fix in iLiberty? I know its an option there. I guess I was lucky it didn't cause any bugs for me.

When you drag and drop, you make a playlist or select a folder and just drop it into your itunes library or into a playlist on your ipod.
When you set it to sync, it will automatically make the library of itunes on the computer equal the library on the ipod. The problem is if you take it to another computer, it will erase everything if you don't happen to have the same songs in itunes.

how do i get it on DFU mode?
I know it was a option in ziphone... you just click the button. But I think you can just click jailbreak (I think most people use iLiberty because ziphone can cause problems in the future) and it will do it automatically. I don't think you need to manually get into that mode.
kay so i used ziphone to jailbreak my ipod touch 32gbbut now i cant sync music onto it, does anyone know how to fix this?
I never used sync before, because it has a tendency to wipe out all my music. But are you sure the profiles and all that are correct? itunes will see your ipod as new after you upgrade the firmware. Can you manually drag and drop music into it?
you might have to restore 1.1.4 then re-jailbreak it. Very odd problem you have. -
I have a 1.1.2 and i jailbroke it already. i want to upgrade to 1.1.4 will i have to jailbreak it again?

okay i *just* got the touch today, and i was following the step by step that duykato posted.. except i'm stuck!kay so in order to upgrade to 1.1.2 i need to have 1.1.1 jailbreaked, right? kay so i got that, but then when trying to find oktoprep, i can't find it anywhere~ T_T;; i know it's supposed to be in tweaks 1.1.1, but that doesn't show up -__-; even after i dl community sources, it still doesn't show up :x

just install 1.1.4 and use iLiberty or Ziphone.
Most of the people say iLiberty is more reliable and causes fewer problems

If you have 1.1.2 installed and you want 1.1.4 you will have to erase everything and start from the beginning because the folders in the 1.1.4 are different from 1.1.2 and you can't just upgrade so its very different and you might as well set it up with clean software on the ipod!

Oh if it asks, you want the Installer and SSH.
Installer installs things
SSH is like a remote access, file transfer thing that you can use. It can be helpful.

I know of one way but it requires a wireless card on the PC. Its times like these I wish I didnt throw everything away when it wasn't needed -__-''

The newest one I know Ziphone does unlock 1.1.4... but I have read some bad stuff about his stuff (like.. he steals work, so ethic issues and it causes issues for other things like corrupts other files that needs patching and fixing) the alternative is iLiberty which I have not tried.
But it will suck because usually people install things over wireless... im not sure if you can manually install without wireless haha I guess if you connect and use it to install it will work =\ not as convenient tho

You install games.. such as the NES emulator
Put in solitare and other native games...
Add in some programs such as the Converter to have a super unit converter... and those are all offline programs that don't use the internet!

Okay, I bought an iPod nano 2nd generation refurbished from apple.com for my cousin's birthday. She's been having problems with the songs. Like, one of the song freezes in the middle of it and goes to the next song. We tried downloading a different file of the same song and re-putting it onto her iPod but it still doesn't work. And she just recently told me that it's doing that again to another song. Why could be the problem?
Might be goodto try. A restore, wipe everything off of the iPod that way if it still fails and crashes you can probably blame it on a defective iPod. Make sure you fill it while you test to make sure it doesn't just mess up at a certain point, like its possible at the 300mb point there is corruption or smething

is there a jailbreak for 32gb??
Although the ways of zibri is shady, I believe his jailbreak on his site (google it) will be able to jailbreak a 1.1.4 ipod 32. It worked fine on my pre-mac world 16gb touch which means that I have 2x 8gb chips. Your 32gb should have the 2x 16gb chips.

2.0 ($10) has a winPwn jailbreak so you modify the firmware to install. Has native support for apple programs like the iPhones
