If you're more adventurous, you can actually buy the YN-460 type flashes for around $40... you won't get the full camera integration and you will need to manually control it but there are decent reviews on them and you can do a lot like.. spend the rest of the budget on a second flash or wireless transmitter/receivers for the flashes so you can even play with off camera lighting.

I think most people use the kit lens until they find a limitation before they upgrade.

Macro photography does not depend on the display, because you will most likely be composing your picture through the viewfinder. However, the actual resolution (megapixels) from the canon may help, but it will not be of much use with the ckit lens because it's not... of sufficient quality to allow the extra megapixels to be of any effect. If you are interested in macro photography, you would want to look at buying macro lens, which both companies have a great range of (Nikon just released a new one). And trust me, 230,000 dots on a screen isn't that bad, in fact, I don't care, it doesn't affect the final output of the picture.
The 40D is a very good camera, if you can afford it, it wouldn't be a bad choice of camera.

I have a 350d I don't know the resolution of the screen but its small and fairly low in resolution. There have been many times where I failed at taking a picture because it looked clear on my screen but was in reality blurry. It might not be an issue anymore, I think most screens are large enough and offer enough resolution for you to tell. I think some people use the live view for focusing and its supposedly pretty good that way but I don't have any experience with that.
If you got to compare them side by side then you should definitely go Nikon... but your budget might even allow you to get the the new D5000 although im not sure if you really need those features. Im pretty sure the no-auto focus only applies to the old and prime lenses such as the 50 1.8 that goes for about $130 which generally happens to be the cheaper ones and is unfortunate that the entry level users would loose auto focus

Any good PSP games lately? I finally updated for 5.00m33 I see no benefit other than getting fewer errors when loading games.
I read GT PSP was terrible. And the graphics of the better rated Need for Speed Shift... was just sad.

So, i went to a store today and asked for the Canon EOS 450D because it was recommended in the official DSLR thread.
I was told the 500D is better because it's an updated version.
In another store, they recommended the 1000D because of the bigger lens(?) and because the price matched the quality of the cam...? what do you think about it?
The lenses itself are all the same for the XS (1000D), XSi (450D), and T1i (500d) unless its some odd combo. The kit comes with the 18-55mm IS lens and is a great starter lens.
The only real benefit of the 500D is it offers HD video recording. A lot of people say that's a novelty feature that isn't really used so its a waste of money, its like how often do we use the video mode of our point and shoot right? I think it also has a expanded ISO range but is otherwise like the 450d. I think the XS has fewer focus points and is slightly slower when you're bursting.

Do you think the CULV chips might be too slow for a lot of people? My friend recently bought an acer timeline with a ulv intel and he wasn't able to stream Hulu smoothly in full screen. I will give him the benefit of the doubt that he didn't enable ultra power save and his internet was able to keep up with the stream.

Moved to mp3 and digital cameras, I know its not digital but its in the same relative theme.
I thought the faded look was mostly from old film? I guess the camera and lens could play a role in that.
@jenniful92 I don't think it really matters as long as the film itself doesn't expire.

there's probably a different model # of that Asus that should offer Bluetooth, you'll have to look around a bit more on the configuration options. one thing you should note is that the Asus has a 16:9 ratio screen while the Vaio has 16:10. this may be an issue for some.
I'm really surprised so many manufactures are going even wider. Do people seriously want to watch movies in 16:9 on their computers?!
if I do, I watch it on my TV forget the laptop One would think programs would grow to utilize the widescreen, the only one that even comes close to looking wide is photoshop with all the things on the side.

My headphone jack broke so my internal speakers don't always work. Power cable broke so I had to replace that. My hard drive completely died about 3 months ago (1 year 2 month old drive) SMART reported 100% the previous day. And my wifi is getting really annoying, it keeps disconnecting. Sometimes, it would disconnect and just fail forcing me to restart because it doesn't find anything when I do a scan. These are just the hardware failures so far, I am not commenting on the physical state and visual appeal of this thing

I tried jailbreaking my ipod then the apps i wanted to use didnt work so i had to restore, anddd

This was over a week ago, but did you fix it? In the worse case you just have to use DFU mode to restore it and it will be back to normal.

I believe you install winterboard through cydia then the themes are just on cydia as well.

Those goggles should have a line in so you can plug your xbox into it and use it as a head worn display. Pretty sure night vision goggles are just screens with a camera illuminated by IR

Pretty sure you would do better with a more common camera like a Nikon or Canon. I was curious and read about the pentax and they actually have cameras that run on AA batteries very odd these days. It sounds like those camera are more geared towards those who were previously Pentax shooters, like those switching from film. They have some neat features I know some have internal image stabilizer and can be used with the old lenses but it just seems like more work before you can get results people are satisfied with.
