You can only see the wind through the whistling of the trees. Love is like that. To see it, it has to be reflected in action. With JH it's in each and every gesture, sometimes surprisingly so. Like when he was working so hard to prepare the end of year party: I thought that he put in all that effort because he wanted to prove that he was hired on his own merit and not for his connections, and in doing so he wanted to strengthen SH's position in front of the board. But it was so much more than that. He was designing the best New Year present ever: choosing a masquerade because he knows how much she longs for anonymity, including a salsa band because he knows that dancing makes her happy, even hand drawing her mask... His love is so apparent in everything that there is no need for a single word. The secret that SH is responsible for turning his theoretical ideas of what love is into practice is no secret at all. It's there in every smile. His feelings are just too big to contain. In contrast, WS's love is invisible. It's all glib retorts and machinations behind the scenes. No wonder that even when he spells it out for her upfront SH does not believe it; instead she thinks that's it's yet another of his games. They never worked in the first place; it was a bad match based on pedigree and an explicit money exchange, not on compatibility or genuine feelings. Resurrecting a dead romance is useless; SH and ex are over. Still they should have an open adult conversation where WS can get his feelings off his chest properly and then move on. Maybe they can become better friends in the process. SH belongs with JH because they just work. Looking at the two of them together, you only see two people in love, and completely forget their age and status differences. It's all lovely done. There’s trust and respect on both sides. There's also an undercurrent of awkwardness in their physical interactions that I find realistic and endearing. JH is constantly hungry for more (like when he has to sit on his hands to prevent himself from reaching out to her during his first visit at her place). He keeps probing her boundaries, tentatively resting his hands on her shoulders after lending her his coat during their walk, then by the end of the day embracing her properly. Also she completely trusts him to go just as far as she is ready… They have to end up together. No other end-game makes sense.

I'm sure that would have crossed some people's mind and I can't blame them since the PD has a knack of zooming out the actual kiss and like someone said, each close shot is when they're done and lips resting on each other...lol. I've observed the angle from behind PBG's head and though it's debatable, some thoughts had me confirmed that they were really kissing: 1) The fact that there was no reason to fake a kiss because the real kissing was already shown to the viewers; 2) The angle that their lips met was highly probable; 3) The slight urgency with which KJH turned his head to kiss CSH...just before it was penned out....you could tell their lips were about to lock; and 4) PBG's ears were red. Therefore, I conclude that despite not showing their lips from behind PBG's head, they were really kissing. I'm still wondering about the shots taken of them kissing because I think it could have been more beautiful if there were close ups of them kissing gently yet passionately to reinforce their hunger for each other, if not to satisfy our hunger! lol... Btw, for a second, I was wondering if PBG was advertising for some hair cream while I was staring at the back of his head....why show the audience the back of his head instead of the eagerly-anticipated, heart-stopping, adrenalin-pumping kiss...or so I had hoped. Well, it was sweet still..... Someone mentioned that it was understandable that PBG had closed his lips initially....I don't think he was burdened at all. In all 8 eps, he was at his natural best. He probably anticipated that SHK would set her lips apart slightly when he went for her lower lip and SHK did just that. It could also be that CSH is more experienced. After all, KJH has only academic knowledge of what love is. If PBG was worried, we certainly won't be treated to the wonderful music of the 'smack' sound at the final kiss.....hahaha....

I agree that we shouldn't worry so much about the ratings. However, I see the need for us to be properly informed about the difference between 1) Public Broadcast Ratings and 2) Cable Broadcast Ratings,. I found a very informative, easy-to-read article which I would like to post here for our guidance. Understanding the Difference Between Public Broadcast and Cable Broadcast Ratings DOMESTIC RATINGS OF PUBLIC BROADCASTS There are four nationwide television networks which are available to the public without subscription. They are EBS (Educational Broadcasting System), KBS (Korean Broadcasting System), MBC (Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation), and SBS (Seoul Broadcasting System), each which several channels (i.e. KBS1, KBS2, MBC-TV Busan, etc.) Each drama is assessed by two companies - AGB Nielsen and TNmS - which occasionally come to the same conclusion on viewership numbers, but when they don't their difference is usually between about 2-3%. Both businesses relies mainly on TV set meters whose information is sent to headquarters for 2:00am analysis before it's released for the 7am news. Their reports are typically broken down into a "Seoul Capital Area" average and a "Nationwide" average. The first company is AGB Nielsen - South Korea is a subset of Nielsen Media Research, an American firm that measures media audiences worldwide. In 2011, AGB Nielson monitored a total of 2050 households to establish its ratings. That number has grown to approximately 5,000 households. (Comment: This is what is followed in SK.) The second company is TnmS (Total National Multimedia Statistics). In 2011, it monitored a total of 2000 households to establish its ratings, but is now up to approximately 4,000 households. DOMESTIC RATINGS OF PUBLIC BROADCASTS In 2016, The overall average viewership of public broadcast was 9.97%. SBS ranked first with an overall domestic rating with 11.74%, followed by KBS at 10.39%, leaving MBC behind at 7.55%. (Skipped the part where it mentions specific dramas) With these numbers in mind, I'd be comfortable suggesting that a public show should aim to fall within this range of 7.5% to 12%. This will be the scale I'll use to decide whether or not a public show is rating poorly, average, or above average. Great: Greater than 12% Average: Between 7.5% and 12% Poor: Less than 7.5% DOMESTIC RATINGS OF CABLE BROADCASTS Ratings of cable dramas tend to be much smaller than that of Public Broadcasts. This is simply because public dramas are free for all in South Korea to watch, whereas cable shows are "paid for" channels, therefore they naturally have a smaller audience. It's difficult to compare dramas from both camps as public dramas have a natural advantage. In 2016, The overall average viewership of cable broadcast was 3.93%. tvN ranked first with an overall domestic rating with 4.82%, followed by OCN at 3.34%, leaving JTBC in third at 1.97%. With these numbers in mind, I'll use the range of 2% to 5% to establish "average" viewership and determine if a cable show is rating poorly, average, or above average. Great: Greater than 5% Average: Between 2% and 5% Poor: Less than 2% Indicator Public Broadcast Cable Broadcast Great Greater than 12% Greater than 5% Average Between 7.5% and 12% Between 2% and 5% Poor Below 7.5% Less than 2% https://aminoapps.com/c/k-drama/page/blog/understanding-viewership-ratings/g01h_6u4blLnz8WZNlB3WNRed7eBg7 Conclusion: Public Broadcast and Cable Broadcast have a different range as far as ratings and rankings are concerned and shouldn’t be put on the same level.

Stopped reading negative comments for quite some time now and it did help me feel better. I get defensive and affected easily..so yeah that was the best decision ever. Lol On a positive note, Encounter has been receiving so much love and praises after a 'rocky' start. That alone is enough to make me feel overjoyed. cto I still remember reading an old interview of SHK. She said..if a drama is good, someday people will watch it.

It is a little early; however, this drama has just moved to number one on my romantic drama list. I don't see two people with an age gap, a class gap, or a wealth gap, I just see two people falling in love. JH is very mature for his age, and although CSH is older than he, because she has always been told what to do in her personal life, CSH is on the same level as JH when it comes to love. I am so impressed with the level of writing, the direction and the cinematography. Encounter is a joy to watch. It makes me reminisce and reflect on when I first fell in love. That stage of a relationship is so special and this drama captures it perfectly. Some thought the kiss should have been more, I thought the kiss was just right for a first kiss. Most people are a little hesitant about their first kiss, and under these circumstances, I thought the kiss was just enough, I loved the way it was filmed with the close-ups, the panning out, the party in the ballroom and their encounters... it was a wonderful kiss that left something to our imagination. (I can imagine the after party and the next morning) All of the actors are outstanding even the evil m-n-l and the pushy mother. I am not always happy with the outcome, but I am always left feeling satisfied that I have watched great episode where all the actors rose to the occasion. This is a first class drama, good work from all involved. Thank you. @rdturbo I am glad you joined our conversation. I used to post on other sites; however, I found many of the posts on those sites were personal attacks on the actors and other nasty irrelevant nonsense that did not move the conversation forward or add insight to the topic. I am glad I found Soompi. Most of the posts here are about the drama and characters. We do not always agree, but for the most part, everyone is respectful of others opinions, analysis and critiques.

I have a strong vibe of cinderella story when Driver Nam opens the car trunk with JH's suit and mask so I'm hoping for a happy ending for both JH and SH. Regarding the rating of this drama, I consider it "very good" already given the negative reaction from a lot of audience when it was announced that PBG will be paired with SHK. It's indeed very difficult to change the mind and perception of people actually... There are some people who don't like the pairing of older woman with younger man (my friend is one of them and she's not a bad person. She just have a different preference and she just doesn't think that she can root for jinsoo couple). Other people doesn't like melo drama since it's less action so they call it boring. It's just a matter of preference and our preference can change over time as our situation changes as well. As for me, I'm surprised that I come to like this drama among all the other dramas airing. I typically would gravitate towards rom com drama such as "clean with passion for now" and I should have been drawn to MOA given that PSH is the first one that hooked me to k-drama. Nevertheless, it turns out that this "Encounter" drama is the one that I like the most at this moment...so to everyone who's new to this thread and wondering whether this drama is good and whether the pair is believable, I would say "Yes. You should watch few episodes of the drama and draw your own conclusion wether you like it or not. Here are my own reasons why I like this drama: 1. Light, fluttery, and warm - I don't need another stressful drama to add to my already stressful work 2. JH and SH relationship - great chemistry and I like the slow burn romance 3. Feminism message - strong woman character, subtle message about going against people's prejudice

@asuwish, usually, when I see "melodrama (romantic)" as the Genre, it just warns me that our OTP are going to go through some emotional pangs, trials and tribulations; but it doesn't necessarily mean the OTP will not have a happy ending (Descendants of the Sun, The Winter The Wind Blows, Secrets, etc.). A lot of times, it's two people who already have the odds stacked against them trying to make it work. I'm hopeful for a happy ending, but also can see the two of them breaking up, but finding their way back together. I loved this episode and especially the fairytale elements in this drama. We had a mixture of the Wizard of Oz the Tin Man/Cinderfella and Soo Hyun was a mixture of Man/Woman in the Iron Mask/Fairy of the Woodland Realms...somewhere along those lines. In regards to the Woo Suk, the ex-husband, I truly thinks he loves her. She appealed to him immediately because she wasn't like the other women he'd met. She wasn't arrogant, haughty, falsely sweet, self serving, or trying to impress him. More than that, she's like him in a lot of ways, two people who have mothers trying to control their lives. However he could see how his mother's behavior was taking away the 'little' smile Soo Hyun used to have. He could have selfishly kept her in the marriage, but instead he pretended to have an affair so that he could give her a reason to leave him--to give her freedom. I almost picture it as two people in prison and one helping the other to escape. I liked the two scenes of Soo Hyun with her mother demonstrating her growing independence and Wook Suk who still hasn't found his independence from his mother. Soo Hyun is speaking frankly to her mother about how she will live her life while Wook Suk is still cowering in front of his mother; when she told him he can go get some rest (aka go to your room).....I thought, "Is he 10 years old?" It put things into focus for me. It's clear that Wook Suk had no intention of attending the ball until he heard that Jin Hyuk had been transferred to another location and Soo Hyun hadn't blocked the transfer. He thought that there maybe an opening for him---poor thang doesn't have a clue. Hearing about Jin Hyuk's transfer gave him confidence to then approach Soo Hyun, and be more open to her about his feelings which confused her. I'm hoping that Wook Suk will find the courage again to "let her go". I think he hoped that one day they would get back together again, but didn't expect her to enter another relationship. She probably wouldn't have, but she had an ENCOUNTER in Cuba that changed her life.

Hi all! I'm new here but I have been reading on Soompi for years but didn't feel compelled enough to sign up and post something until now. It's been amazing reading everyone's commentary and theories about the series and I don't think I have anything new to add but just wanted to say hi and perhaps go through the things I am enjoying about Encounter. - I love PBG and I was sold as soon as it was announced he would be in the drama! I had my reservations too because it was with SHK but that was quickly forgotten because it had been 2 years since MDBC. - I like SHK too but I don't think I have ever finished any of her drama. For all the hype DOTS had, I only lasted until like episode 4 or 5. It takes a really good drama to pull my attention and an even greater drama to keep my attention! - I love, love, love... in case I am being overly subtle about how much I love this drama! "I love Encounter/ Boyfriend"!! - I love it because the storyline is so simple, it actually blows my mind!!! - I love it because they switched the story up but not in a weird way! I am a female but I would not consider myself a feminist as I believe in equality opportunities for both men and women and with a bit of common sense we can all go a long way. So if a drama is trying to pull a radical feminist agenda then I would be out the door. Encounter tells a story of a normal woman who just happens to be a CEO but not just a CEO by entitlement but by hard work! Great learning for all willing to learn from this great example! Guess what all CEO, including women CEO's want and need, someone to love them and actually show that love (Sorry WS, I like him but I will continue to favour him in my imagination, where I have written a beautiful love story for him in which he lived happily ever after with someone that is not SH ). - I also love that Encounter did not make JH weak just to portray SH as a strong competent character instead we have a good looking, strong, manly, bold, brave, lovely, understanding, stubborn and very happy young man with the name of JH! Writer-nim Thank you! Honestly I don't know what else to say to people that can't see how beautiful this drama is? Of course, I have not even mentioned the Cinematography, Arts, Framing of scenes, actually showing us how a romance grows rather than telling us while the couple jumps into their first kiss. A romance, this is something most people have completely forgotten about and what I love the most in a story! I can clearly see why there is a reference to Roman Holiday and fairy tales! Old Classic movies are full of romance. The lead couple might not even share a kiss but you will surely feel the love! People have talked about Notting Hill on this thread; UK movies/drams are typically full of romances, slightly different from US stuff! Since most of their movies/ dramas are from books! Which is why Encounter seems like a book, it builds and draws a vivid picture of the romance for our enjoyment. @gumtaek Thanks you so much for posting the difference between public and cable ratings! I have been so confused for a long time trying to make sense of why a mega popular drama has a lower rating than another drama that is not as popular. It's been a bit of a struggle trying to make sense of it! I finally do! Thanks Ireland says Hi

This was a fairytale episode. You have the seperated lovers, a masquerade, a fairy godmother, and true loves first kiss at the stroke of midnight. I don't know how this show does it - blending the extraordinary into the ordinary. I really hope my thoughts make sense because I'm still not over it. Wasn't it wonderful just how much thought Jin Hyuk put into that masquerade - yes it was an important year end event, but he put in a personal touch that would reach Soo hyun - the announcement of it being a celebration of their Havana hotel opening and the salsa dancers - it would remind SH of their wonderful memories of Cuba and connect them even though he could not physically be there. He knew she would be missing him just as much as him. And all the detail in creating Sh's mask- he knows exactly what she needs, and this is why this couple works. And that kiss at the end, I was pleasantly surprised. I really loved how their was no hesitation, no dialogue, he sees how touched she is by that announcement, all that longing, and it just happens. I wish the pd did focus on the moment though--he has given us beautiful shots of their hands and even their shoes, then why not that actual affection. The ending though was really sweet, with them gently swaying with each other. My other thoughts- -Sh's confrontation with the director - this is such a remarkable change. She has come such a long way. Her speech was controlled but there was no mistaking the obvious anger and dominance. - I just love Shk's acting in this drama, she is a big, big part of why their chemistry is just so natural and overflowing. Her secretly shedding a tear while observing JH - just gorgeous. - Jh's family is so warm and loving, I really liked his omma this episode... But why do I feel Jh's identity will get revealed and his mom makes the connections next episode. Her gut feeling isn't wrong. - On the other hand, something is seriously wrong in taeyong household. Ws mom is trying to protect him and his feelings and Ws is misguided ly going about his. Everything is twisted up. - The side characters and their stories are all interesting. I get the feeling that this show is perfectly cast. - I want to end with this quote - "You know when your in the middle of work, or you're asleep, or brushing your teeth, I find myself smiling alone thinking of these memories." Me too, Soo Hyun, me too. Its gonna be a long wait for the next episode.

Just thinking that we haven't seen SH take those pills for awhile now. Seems she doesn't need them anymore now she has JH. She has come a long, long way since she took the sleeping pills in Cuba and then left the hotel without really thinking (or maybe even caring) what the consequences might be.

Sounds like a possibility but it won't happen. KJH can sacrifice his own happiness, provided he's convinced that CSH truly loves her ex-husband but she doesn't. What she'll feel once she finds out about his good deed is simply.....compassion and it is different from love. For me: CSH - WS = gratitude CSH - KJH= LOVE The PD knows many international fans are eyeing him closely.....the writer can always modify her story. As for the fans, we can always express our desire for a good, happy and passionate "live happily ever after" on all platforms available .... Blossom, tvN, "Boyfriend" hashtags, ig accounts etc....why not? After all, it's such a beautiful and meaningful drama and since things looked reverse, a sad end to a melodrama should be reversed to a happy one instead. And don't bother about the silly fan war....

I believe this drama is filmed to make a point. This is not like any other drama where a girl and a boy meets, fall in love, have fights and goes right back together. This is so much more than that. It clarifies gaps among men and women in the society. This drama is like a starter pack. They show the people that this kind of love is possible and that this kind of union has been happening all around us and it is not different from any other relationship. Love is love. No matter the gaps or the differences. There’s no point to this drama if they wont end up together.

I think this is just some jokes from fans, please don’t take it hard. I use to joke too if only you know where I’m coming from . No hard feelings yah? I personally like WS, but I am not a fan of SH gets back to him when there wasn’t love in their marriage in the first place, not to mention his evil mom, SH will never be able to be happy. I wish him to be able to move on and be free from his mom. dc

I just want to add something about the kiss scene, since we have two weeks to dissect everything lol While overall I loved it and thought it was sweet, I agree with some here that I do feel cheated a bit Why? Because all the close up of them kissing are when their lips are about to part ways. LOL. And all the zoomed out shots are of them actually kissing. I found it so amusing that when he went in on that kiss and CSH slightly opened her mouth they just had to change angles and pan out. And some netizens even commented that those shots from the back of JH’s head aren’t actually them kissing but just pretending to kiss? Whaaat? Anyway I digress, questionable editing but beautifully filmed nonetheless <3 Here’s to hoping for something better in the new year

I just completed watching E8. The kissing scene is definitely a nice Christmas gift to us viewers. The kiss although done very lightly serves to cement the love for each other. The relationship is no longer at the "pre-relationship" stage. They are now in the "couple" stage. It looks like more pressure will be thrown their way by MIL but in the end they will survive all the hardship and pain. Since E8 will be the last for this year. I wish everyone a wonderful Christmas and a far better 2019 to all of us. Stay safe everyone.

@dukesa1122, I could understand that SH never felt anything for WS. I think that SH was so caught up in trying to be the perfect daughter, wife, and daughter-in-law, that everything she did was about duty and not much else. And a large part of it was the mother-in-law who is very critical and controlling, even to telling her what to wear, what activities she has to do, which people she needs to associate herself with. It’s as SH herself tells her mother, she found herself smiling when she got divorced because she finally thought she might live. I think her married life was an even worse version of her life under her mother where SH did as she was told, no more and no less.
  23. 16 points
I don't think it's realistic to think that the marriage was never consummated. When they were married, WS was attracted to his wife, and SH wanted to be a good wife, even wanting to mold herself into what her husband likes. Plus, children would have been a big part of the expectations from the marriage. I don't see any reason why it would not have been consummated. On the other hand, I am wondering whether for SH, it was always a duty and never a pleasure, now that you've raised the topic. Btw, completely changing the topic, I was thinking during the kiss scene that PBG has really improved since his on screen kisses in MDBC. I remember at the time, he didn't even really kiss her lips when they were kissing, but rather her philtrum, though that may have been somewhat deliberate because of the controversy over KYJ being a minor still. I guess MDBC was his second on screen kiss, and he seems to have improved in this drama from both of his previous kisses. I think that this drama is the first straight up romance drama that he's done as well, though both Reply 1988 and MDBC had some romance in them, they were not really billed as romances.

I just loved the way he prepared even the small details for the party, he knew she would want a mask that would cover her whole face, and the notes he took were so sweet, unlike her ex husband who just ask someone to find out how she was dressed, like if she was going to be dancing in the middle of the platform. This guy does not know his ex wife
  25. 15 points
Totally agree with you, chingu! It'll be better if these jokes are not brought over to the thread because they're irrelevant to the drama....lol. It might also take the drama off-track when the main focus should be on the story and the lead couple. Leave those things in the igs- guns and all. We should discuss about the drama and its beauty. I hope people know reel from real and don't bring in other actors outside the drama. I seriously don't think we should bring in statistics to back up what those crazy fans do. Please avoid that to keep the friendly atmosphere here. @yonaomi123 Yes, it's highly likely that WS witnessed the kiss and maybe he's the one who asked KJH to settle stuff outside the party venue? Or maybe KJH and CSH both decided to elope after the kiss? Or adjourn somewhere for a more comfortable reunion? So many possibilities if KJH is really missing...

Oh wow! I know the difference between both but I didnt know how to gauge number to call the series great or average. This is a very informative post @gumtaek. As always, thanks! TBH, I also thought of that when they just showed the back of JHs head but then that would be ridiculous since they also have close-up shots of their lips together. I realize that people and I should chill out. And that the kiss was just appropriate for a first kiss. Wanting more kisses though

I’m really happy Song Hye Kyo chose this project after her high profile wedding with Song Joong Ki. Most married A list actresses stopped taking on mainstream romantic roles after getting married. I wonder why? The last high profile romantic drama series with a married woman actress was “My love from the star”. It was a great job done by all parties. I love it that the drama is getting all these comments and discussions about the leads’ chemistry together. Sometimes, we forget that these people are professional Actors and Actresses and judged them based on their private lives. Hye Kyo being married shouldn’t cause us to discount her acting skills. She can still deliver intense acttraction if the script calls for it. Bo Gum being Joong Ki’s good friend shouldn’t affect his ability to act too. I really appreciated Bo Gum’s and Hye Kyo’s acting. I could feel their intentional awkwardness during the first episode and how they could portray their relationship growing naturally. May this project done by two very talented actor and actress helped to pave the way for more openness in married actresses taking on romantic roles.

Let me cut some part, I totally agreed with your post. I am one of audiences who showed strong objection after confirming the main casts with age gap and marriage status which might be quite difficult to make audiences believe in lovers’ roles. I intended not to watch even a single episode.. After the first epispde, praises abour interesting story, fresh script, great acting, and unbelievably amazing chemistry made me start watching some short clips and then I became a fans of this Encounter. For Park Bo Gum, I am so glad that he accepted this project because his acting is challenging and he can nail the role to create Kim Jin Hyuk alive and have chemistry with Cha Soo Hyun. For Song Hye Kyo, I am not her fans before but I appreciated her acting approach in this Encounter, I am blessed that Park Bo Gum chose this Encounter with Song Hye Kyo, rather than any younger actresses with less acting experience. I am impressed with story and script how the writer created this fairy tale in the current situation with reasonable circumstances and how Park Bo Gum&Song Hye Kyo made audiences deeply believe in their couple roles within just 8 episodes from KJH&CSH’s first meeting in Cuba till in relationship with longing moments in ep8.

in my head and in my heart, there will never be WS and SH. Why build up JH+SH so much if they will not end up together? You’re right at one thing though. You have a wild imagination. It will remain to be an imagination and if you guys are looking for someone to blame... thats easy... it’s the evil MIL.
  31. 14 points
I rewatch now ep 2 and i wonder if SW ever showed his love to SH when they were married at all bcos SH told him to tell his mom the truth what he felt if MIL asked him. I might have misunderstood, but i interpret this as SH had never felt WS loved her when they were married, then i wonder who is then to blame? SH or WS?
  32. 14 points
@kingkong72 your scenario is calling for SooHyun to decide that WooSeok's silent sacrifices are worth re-entering a household where her MIL actively despises her. If she did remarry WooSeok, wouldn't that essentially send him the message of: "Ah. I don't have to actively work at making the relationship between her and my mother better, as long as I do these little protective acts behind her back." So far as we've seen, SooHyun responds best when people are direct with their words and actions. (go back and rewatch the potato pancake scene and the 'woman I'm talking to is my mother' scene) From that standpoint, I find it hard to believe that SooHyun would return to a man who struggled before, during, and after their marriage to tell her the most of basic of things... such as "I like you." Even if the JinSoo couple does not stay together, I don't see any evidence that just because WooSeok made sacrifices for her and "loves" her, that would lead to SooHyun deciding she owes it to WooSeok to marry him again. Edit: Maybe I'm just being too rigid? But being in that toxic house again might cause SooHyun to need more than sleeping pills to get through the day... I don't think anyone's silent sacrifices are worth needing to take pills, but that's just my opinions

Just dropping a note to wish every chingu here, a very Merry Christmas and a Blessed Year ahead! It is heartwarming to know that we share a common love for "Boyfriend" and wishes it to do really well and that we owe it to PBG and SHK for such a beautiful love story. Let's hope the drama will shine even more with 8 more episodes and hopefully, it'll have a beautiful conclusion for KJH and CSH. Cheers!!

Hey guys, long time lurker and first time poster here This is only the 5th K-drama I've watched but so far it is the most thought provoking I've seen. I love how intelligently crafted this drama is. The subtlety is amazing. Being a big fan of the arts and literature, this drama really speaks to me. I have so many thoughts and theories but don't have the willpower to type it right now lol. All I can say is episode 8 was AMAZING. What a great mid-series finale (can't believe we are halfway through ) I just hope the story and characterization will remain consistent until the end. Back to episode 8, I love how the ending showed all the couples and potential couples who came together during NYE. And I love how CSH and JH just threw caution to the wind and decided to kiss in the veranda, very Romeo and Juliet (minus the tragic ending, I hope). Something tells me they will be caught again, seeing as kissing is public might not be the brightest idea but they're so in love so what can we do lol. I do hope though that there's an alternative scenario to this. I don't want a time jump as well, I'm curious to see how they'll handle seeing each other again at the masquerade ball. Speaking of masquerade, I love how it was a masquerade themed party. Their masks fit each characters personality for the most part.

this scene plus the ost wow DC “I learned what love is through a book. this is what happens when I fall in love. It’s clear to me now. thanks to you, it’s so clear to me now…what love is.” ******** All of them are potential pairings.

There is no way SH will end up with WS again I have been defending WS a lot but I absolutely see no reason for them to get back together. Rather, I believe WS will be able to let go of SH completely and support her business; he needs to find his own life and freedom like SH. He also deserves having someone who whole-heatedly loves him - WS is someone who is capable of loving but the way he expressed himself is confusing - it is not good or clear enough. SH wasn't even herself before she met and married WS. That SH accepted living according to her mother's rule but the present SH doesn't. And once she experience love with JH, she can never go back. SH and WS had their chance but it didn't work out - their timing is over. I just want SH to know what WS did so that she will not resent him or no longer think she wasn't good enough for him so he cheated. Obviously, WS is not the one for SH and doesn't really know how to make her happy. I used to think PBG look so young compared to SHK even though I love them as JH and SH in this drama and feel the chemistry. Probably because JH was such a sunny boy in the first 4 episodes. But from the scene where JH was alone in this room, thinking about his feeling towards SH and grabbed a coat, took his bike out in episode 5, I started to notice how JH has such a serious, mature side to him. He gets even more manly and understanding as the story progresses from episode 6 to 8. In episode 8, I completely forget the age difference between them I wasn't familiar with PBG's acting before; in fact I was a fan of SHK but I start to really appreciate PBG's acting from episode 4 onward. As for SHK, I feel her acting is underrated. Many care about her age and beauty, what type of makeup, clothing, hairstyle she has because she is herself is a brand. But I really love her subtle acting and how she always creates great chemistry with her co-stars. And how come she manages to be so beautiful in every angle? The scene where she and PBG have coffee in episode 5, looking straight to the sea is like a great picture. In fact, these two have great visual that each shot of them together is beautiful. About previous for upcoming episodes, I am not worry about JH going missing. If it happens in final episodes, it is a huge sign of trouble. But it is only mid-way so I believe JH will be fine; plus previews can be misleading And I am ready for more kisses; the next one'd better be more passionate than the first But no bed scene, please, I hope ^^

With all the fuss about the kiss, it should be done in a dignified and respectable way, she's the ceo, they are in her hotel, in a public place with all eyes on them, so that was enough. How i wish the ex has seen this and it made some sense in his mind. WS might even have a plan for the night and invited reporters, to take pictures of them and publish to the world to see. But JH thinks ahead, always thinks ahead. A 2ND time around with her ex? Its like you have been released from your prison time and here you are again committing the same crime again and be prisoned again. WS did not loved SH. He didn't even respect her throughout her marriage. How can he be tight-lipped when his mother undendingly verbally abused SH? He just let his mother do her thing. Even in our life when we see someone experiencing abuse, whoever he is, we extend our concern. What more if it is your wife. I just hate him. Hate is a strong word but thats the truth. And his actions now giving SH hints here and there, he is so arrogant. Is money a big issue in their marriage? In ep 1, when SH saw JH dancing in the street with the locals, she said, he won't take the money. And that made the first good impression for JH. And as their 1st meeting progresses, she always asked if he has some money. SH was sold off for marriage. At 1st i thought its bec. of her father's politics but in the last ep it was revealed she was the debt's payment. Maybe mil always put into SH's head that she is into that marriage not of anything else but as a payment of her family's debt. SH can't even buy anything without asking WS, and WS asking Mil. Its very apparent even the liberty of buying her own clothes was taken away. But for JH in Cuba, he never hesitated. Even when his face showed he has little left on his pocket, still he never hesitated. Encounter or boyfriend being the title enable us to think how far their relationship will take them. When SHK described her character, she said, upon meeting( i translate this as encounter) JH(i translate this as boyfriend), she found freedom and able to live the life she long for. There are many obstacles but as in Cuba's motto "homeland( it means freedom to Cuban) or death: we shall overcome. They will overcome it, for love conquers all. Is there love bigger than JH's love for SH? And as SH beginning to reciprocate that love, it will be a happy ending for them. Happy holidays everyone!!!!! Merry CHristmas!!!!

It goes to show how immature people's minds are when it comes to married woman playing a lead role with a different leading man. Thank God that doesn't happen too much where I come from. I bet they wont say the same things when SJK's series will start airing and he kisses KJW. This is the last comment im gonna give about this. Let's not talk about negative stuff here coz it sullies the happy feeling, seriously. Lets ignore those negative comments because it has been working on our favor this entire time. ======================================== You think WooSeok is crazy enough to do that? I dont think JH is missing though. I think thats just the PD playing with us to get us anticipated *crossing fingers*

@stroppyse and it all goes back to the evil MIL. I had to give a hand to the actress. She’s really good. I really hate her.

No, I'm not blaming him alone because marriage is about 2 pple, but i can't blame on SH neither. Certainly they were not meant to be, i think we women use to be a bit more soft at heart, if SW had been able to show his love for her, maybe it didn't end like this...i dun know. He looks very handsome though

Viewers always notice when the hero levels up because the signs are visible. For instance, once JinWoo reached Level 5, the audience immediately took note that he could finally communicate with both the pirates (or mercenaries) and Emma in that Alcazaba Café. But I doubt the audience even noticed when the heroine HeeJoo leveled up. To me, she’s in Level 2. It has something to do with the clock. Did you notice them? It always strikes 1:16 am. From Episode 1 The news on TV is droning about the success of JOne at a recent tech show but she's oblivious to it as she sleeps. Doorbell chimes. She wakes up and glances at the clock then goes back to sleep. But doorbell rings again so she goes to the door wondering who it can be. She opens the door and he asks, “Did I come too late?” at the lateness of the hour. She asks in return, “How can I help you?” And he replies, “Do you have any available rooms?” Then the church bells toll. From Episode 5 She’s sorting through her office materials. Phone chimes. She glances at the clock. She answers the phone, “Hola” and she hears, “Is this Hostal Bonita?” in Spanish. The caller orders her to get JinWoo. She resists at first but yields after finding out that the caller’s the wife. See that? In the first episode, it was the doorbell that chimed to announce the beginning of her involvement in the game. In the second episode, it was the phone call from the Wife that signaled her "leveling up." Both times, it was 1:16 am. At the first encounter, she was given the opportunity to say no and close the door on JinWoo. But it seemed like she was caught in a trance and she allowed him in. And I thought that the church bell tolling in the distance was ominous. You see, church bells are rung NOT ONLY to indicate the HOUR (besides at 1:16am, the church bell had no business ringing the HOUR anyway, because it was late by 16 minutes. Ha!) but ALSO announce the DEATH of somebody. That's why we have the term "death knell" and the famous poem by John Donne that goes, "any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bells tolls; it tolls for thee." The tradition of ringing the bell is said to drive out the devils hovering and prowling around the area to take control over the soul of the newly deceased. So, here in this kdrama when the church bell tolled, I took it to mean that her brother was "dead" but there was the devil, in the form of JinWoo, lurking around to take over his "soul" or his creative and INTELLECTUAL property, the AR game. And true enough, JinWoo's smile as he and HeeJoo gazed at each other looked charmingly devilish to me. lol. As for the second instance the clock showed 1:16am, I explained it in my blog. Just go over there if you want to read; I don't want to bore people here longer than necessary. source: http://bitchesoverdramas.com/2018/12/21/memories-of-the-alhambra-on-heejoos-leveling-up

WS feelings for CSH might be true and didn't want her to be miserable while married to him, so initiated the divorce. He might be contented with seeing and having conversation with her from time to time and maybe hoping that someday she realized that she can return his feelings. What he didn't expect is that, CSH fall for someone else. I hope he totally free her from his family's shadow, which is what she's trying to do. The kissing scene is a little disappointing but very understandable considering the fact that it's their first.. Hope to have more in the coming episode ( am I being greedy?)

That’s what I thought too. Idk, but something irks me that shes acting like she really hadn’t felt anything toward him. I feel like there’s another big secret that happened between them that lead her to dislike him, aside from the divorce. Or maybe the evil MIL (of course) keeps getting in their way while they were married. About the kiss, I noticed that too. And I remember an interview with SSCP before. SJK commented that SHK covers up his short comings in a very subtle way. I have replayed the kiss alot of times and at first PBG’s lips were totally closed. Had SHK did’t open her mouth, that would have been a smack on the lips or closed lip kiss. I couldn’t blame him though. We all know why there is a slight hesitation on his part. I like the way he went aggressice when they changed angles though. Doesn’t matter, PBG still delivered. I especially liked that sound of a smack on the last part.

I’m sad for him. Only because he was raised that way. He must be at a total loss not knowing what to do to make CSH fall for him. I remember his story about their honeymoon in spain and they need to drive west. He wanted to hire a driver but CSH wanted to travel without one and he drove for hours. Thinking about it now, it’s impossible CSH didn’t feel anything when they were married? Driving for hours under extreme heat only because your new wife doesnt want to hire a driver is effort in itself. And, I’m gonna ask this because i think it’s a pretty big elephant in the room, was the marriage never consumated?

@Visually-wandering @bebebisous33 Just imagine when the next kiss happens with full consent... how the kiss will be like.

I've stopped reading those comments because like @leedonghaek, I get defensive and get affected easily. It doesn't matter what they say. The numbers show Their best days are our worst days when it comes to ratings. And even if the numbers wont show. It is still an amazing drama for me and I get to feel all sorts of emotions while watching it. Most importantly, it lets me use my brain. lol

Since we had one in episode 3, then another one in episode 6 ... the next kiss should happen in the episode 9... or 12.
