  4. April 16, 2019 Interview: Nam Joo-hyuk, "The Love Scene With Han Ji-min Was Short But Affectionate" Source: Nate via HanCinema.net Nam Joo-hyuk played almost 3 roles in "The Light in Your Eyes"; Lee Joon-ha standing on the cliff of despair, Hye-ja's husband who died at such a young age, and Hye-ja's doctor who looks just like her late husband. He worked with the Hye-ja (Kim Hye-ja) in her 70s and Hye-ja (Han Ji-min) in her 20s. Nam Joo-hyuk had to travel 50 years back and forth in time for this act. "Joon-ha who struggled in the year 2019, Joon-ha the public relations officer, Joon-ha the doctor and Joon-ha from the 70s; I played almost four different characters. I didn't want them to all be different. I tried to make them seem like one person", said the actor. "I think someone like Joon-ha exists. So does Hye-ja. That helped me to concentrate more". The romance with Han Ji-min's character was short and painful. About working with her, Nam Joo-hyuk said, "I didn't meet her much, so maybe that's why the viewers thought that we were much more affectionate and yearning for each other. Otherwise, we got along pretty well on set". Is he regretful that the romance wasn't sweet enough? "Romance wasn't the key in this drama so no. I did think the couple should be very loving. I learned a lot from Han Ji-min. She made me think I want to be that kind of person". With Kim Hye-ja, a senior actor, Nam Joo-hyuk said, "It was an unbelievable experience working with her". He also said "It was an honor" a couple of times. "Just watching her on the set was unbelievable. She told me never to lose focus, and to work hard to become a good actor". Apparently, director Kim Seok-yoon was the atmosphere maker of the set. He was 80% responsible for the laughter. "He's a great leader. When we had dinner for the first time he said he'd 'heal' me and it was exactly what I expected the story to be". "While playing Joon-ha I realized there was something he didn't let go of. It may have seemed like he was only alive because he couldn't die but actually, he was struggling to be happy. That is how he managed to survive, and when nothing happens is what happiness is for him". Nam Joo-hyuk's next project is "School Nurse Ahn Eun-young" on Netflix. He meets with Jung Yoo-mi here. He said, "I just have to do my best and make sure I don't regret it". April 15, 2019 [Interview] Nam Joo-hyuk Asked If He Sold His Soul for Acting Prowess in "The Light in Your

  10. So a funny thing happened yesterday. When I went to watch Episode 9, I realized I'd never watched Episode 8. HOW. Oops. Anyway, I quickly rectified that and after having watched Episode 8, I have some additional thoughts on Fu Pei. I also have something to say about a new character that we were introduced to. Since episode 8 won't be released with subs until Saturday, I'll put my thoughts under a cut: As for this week's VIP episodes (9-12), I have made sure to watch them all (LOL) and have much to say. But I'll start with just a few things (also under a cut for spoilers): Anyhoo, those are just some thoughts... sorry, if they don't make sense right now. I promise they'll make sense once you've seen the relevant episodes. If anyone's interested in quickie recaps for the VIP episodes, I maybe persuadable... (since the VIP episodes are a week ahead of the regular episodes)... but if there's no interest, it's not worth my time either.

  12. April 19, 2019 Bong Joon-ho's 'Parasite' chosen for competition in Cannes SEOUL, April 18 (Yonhap) -- The Cannes Film Festival on Thursday announced the feature selection for the 2019 competition, which includes South Korean director Bong Joon-ho's "Parasite." It is Bong's second time competing for the Palme d'Or, or Golden Palm, following the selection of his adventure film "Okja" in 2017. The Korean-language film will be one of 19 films to compete for the Palme d'Or, including "Pain and Glory" by Spanish director Pedro Almodovar and "Ahmed" by the Belgian filmmaking brothers Jean-Pierre Dardenne and Luc Dardenne. It is also the fourth consecutive year that a South Korean film has been chosen to compete in the international film festival, following Park Chan-wook's "The Handmaiden" in 2016 and "Burning" by Lee Chang-dong in 2018. "Parasite" is Bong's seventh feature film and first Korean-language movie in 10 years. The flick pictures a working-class family that gets entangled in an unexpected incident after the son has a chance to access a wealthy, elite world. Song Kang-ho, who plays a main role in the movie, collaborates with Bong for the fourth time, following "Memories of Murder," "The Host" and "Snowpiercer." "I want to share this pleasure with all the actors and the filming staff and myself who immersed themselves in shooting 'Parasite' during last year's unusually searing summer," director Bong said of the nomination. "I am honored and thrilled to present this film capturing the vivid image of the era in the heat of the Cannes Film Festival," he said. Another Korean film, "The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil" by director Lee Won-tae, was invited to the film festival for its non-competitive Midnight Screenings category. The 72nd Cannes Film Festival will run from May 14-25. The photo provided by CJ Entertainment shows a scene from the movie "Parasite" by director Bong Joon-ho.
