[Variety 2019] Coffee Friends 커피프렌즈 with Yoo Yeon Seok & Son Ho Jun

Recommended Posts

Is food in korea really cheap? I went to korea before and felt the food in restaurants/cafes were quite expensive. Huhu

I'm curious how Coffee Friends (cafe) can sustain in the long run (the original coffee truck i think can be sustained since they only serve drinks). But for the cafe, it seems to me, that the donations is not as much compared to what they are serving.

In ep 4 they served 26 tables and 65 customers and sold trays of tangerines. They got around 1300 dollars. By rough calculation, each table paid approximately 50 dollars (assuming each table ordered a minimum 2 drinks and one toast and one tray of oranges- which we know is not the case, as some ordered multiple toasts, drinks, stew etc2).

I think the customers need to pay more for what they order. Eventhough its for charity, and no price is stated on the menu, they should pay a more suitable amount just like in other cafes.

They should use that song for the show, when SHJ is making his cups of coffee!

The preview for the 2/8 episode feat. a segment of BJW as the 'latest part-timer'

It's nice to see the cast learning new skills from each other..coffee_machine.gif

CJW and YSJ getting first-hand lesson from SHJ to handle the coffee machine. It helps get things moving when they have a lot of customers coming in.

I also feel that the donation is not as much as the effort and expenses in preparing the food & coffee. Even though the funation amount increases each day so does their production cost. Every time after counting the daily donation, YYS and SHJ kept mentioning that they need to add more variety in the menu in order to increase the donation amount. Don't they have to 'compensate' the owner of the tangerine orchard as well? Unless it's sponsored for tourism purposes or tvN had rented the entire farm & fruit for the show.

Perhaps, it's better if they set the price beforehand (with all profits going to charity, of course), probably a bit less to attract customers and then put the donation boxes out for them to add more if they want to. However, Coffee Friends are not setting any amount for the donation they wish to achieve but simply hoping the customers will enjoy the coffee & food and donate as much as they like.

Despite the very tiring hours standing plus rushing around and not getting a break to serve the never-ending string of customers, for sure the cast enjoyed every moment of their time in Jeju. It would great if they could accumulate even more $ for the good cause and intention of Coffee Friends. Perhaps, they'll go on until episode 10 or 11 before wrapping up as everyone will have other work commitment.

Once again, the (food) variety show featuring the celebrities running a kitchen or a restaurant or a cafe or a farm or simply having 3 meals a day becomes a huge hit for good reason.. a cozy, yummy and healing comfort entertainment.

I agree with previous posters. I'm sure the production/TV company is helping with the expenses (ingredients, rental, etc), and all donations would strictly be for charity. If not, I doubt we would have any money left to donate, after covering all expenses... And we would not have a show...

I'm thinking they should include an introduction to the charity(ies) for the customers to read on the menu or on the table. Not only it might interest the customers, but it might encourage them to be fair/donate more, or even for them to discover/learn more about the organizations and causes.

Also I can never understand how these people can stay calm and eat their food after seeing all these three in one place. I would've fainted.

HAHAHAHA I know right? I wonder if there's someone at the entrance telling people what they can and are not allowed to do. LOL Do they get to take photos with the staff or not? I would have been drooling watching YSJ. LOL

Sadly, I think YSJ is the one who is getting noticed less?!?! He is completely adorable here though. Always in a confused state of mind and talking to himself loudly on what he has to do. I crack up whenever he does that. LOL.

At least in Youn's kitchen, they were in a foreign country and people might not had been familiar with the k-stars, but here it's unacceptable for the local customers to just come in and not appreciate all the beautiful handsome men. Hahaha.

LOL! Turned out it was YYS & SHJ who recruited their most high-profile part-time worker in the pretense of inviting him to check their cafe & food. Such sneaky bosses!  CJW and YSJ were both speechless, to say the least. :P Even BJW was surprised that he's coming to do the dishes instead. But obviously.. he became the all-rounder part-timer.

Watching eps 6 half way . I can feel YYS stress when the orders pile up & he keeps smiling but inside you know he’s energy is spent

Hats off to all of them . It isn’t easy to do this when you are not trained in this industry. Fortunately customers have been forgiving since they know this is set up for charity &  no one would be angry at their favourite celebrity

Yes, YYS needs more help with the toasts orders. They need another grill, or have an assistant take care of the plate presentation and/or help with cooking. Poor guy. I felt sorry for him when the group of young ladies had to leave for work before their order was ready.

Watched some snippets from episode 7, it's a non-stop full house with night customers ordering at least 2 dishes per table. The new menu are not simple ones either with lots of ingredients and various preparation. Hope the donation will be equally significant (over $2000?) because the cast really worked hard preparing since the afternoon and then cooking/making drinks/serving/washing dishes throughout till late night. :sweatingbullets:

So true. The toasts are a lot of work...someone else should do the plating when orders are piling

Nam Joo Hyuk And EXO’s Sehun Put In A Hard Day’s Work At “Coffee Friends”

Feb 16, 2019
by R. Jun

Nam Joo Hyuk and EXO’s Sehun visited tvN’s “Coffee Friends” for the show’s February 15 episode.

For the Coffee Friends cafe’s sixth day of business, celebrity chef Baek Jong Won joined Son Ho Jun, Yoo Yeon Seok, Choi Ji Woo, and Yang Se Jong for work.

With a full house, all hands were busy, so Son Ho Jun called up Nam Joo Hyuk for an emergency bread delivery. As soon as Nam Joo Hyuk arrived, Son Ho Jun thrust a coffee grinder into his hands and put him to work, while Baek Jong Won commented, surprised, “Oh, you’re a celebrity! I was just thinking that you were really good-looking.” In the end, Nam Joo Hyuk got pulled behind the counter and got sent to the sink to do dishes.

Elbow deep in the sink, Nam Joo Hyuk said to Yoo Yeon Seok, “[Son Ho Jun] said to just drop off the bread and go…” Yoo Yeon Seok responded, “You believed him?”

Eventually, after some coaxing, Son Ho Jun and Baek Jong Won sent Nam Joo Hyuk on his way.

On the seventh day, the cafe employed EXO’s Sehun, invited by Yoo Yeon Seok.

When the others asked Yoo Yeon Seok how he knows an idol, he said, “A lot of people have said that we look a like, and we became close. We also did a variety show together.”

Son Ho Jun said TVXQ’s Yunho kept calling to ask them to take good care of Sehun. The EXO member said, “He told me it was going to be a lot of work. He said I just have to peel some oranges and do some dishes.” Yoo Yeon Seok and Choi Ji Woo said, laughing, “It’s not just ‘some.'”

Eventually, after a long stint with oranges, Choi Ji Woo tried to give Sehun a reprieve, asking Yoo Yeon Seok to give him a break, but Yoo Yeon Seok just said he would have to go out again to pick more.

Later, after the cafe opened for the day, Sehun said, throwing back an iced drink, “This is legit. I know why Yunho hyung said that now.”

Did they run out of bread because Chef BJW kept on giving them out to customers? LOL Or is it because it's dinnertime and people eat more than usual?

NJH is painfully shy. It would have been nice if he could stay longer.

EDIT: My mistake. The preview shows NJH returning to work as a part-timer.

LOL at Sehun. I just watched EXO's Ladder and in one episode, he won like an entire floor for himself at a pool villa they were staying in while some of the others had to sleep on the floor in one room. Sehun went to the others and asked them to sleep with him because he can't sleep alone. LOL
