[Drama 2018] Something In The Rain / Pretty Noona Who Buys Me Food, 밥 잘 사주는 예쁜 누나

Recommended Posts

JH and JA talk in KS's cafe.

JA: You look as if you’re doing well, so that’s good.
JH: Are you well?
JA: Of course.
JH: I see.
JA: Thank you for coming to the wedding. Actually, I was a little shocked that you came.
JH: No need to be shocked.
JA: You’re still very angry.
JH: No, I’m not.
JA: Then why is your tone of voice like that.
JH: It’s that it’s been such a long time, it’s awkward, that’s all.
JA: I know you were very disappointed in me, but that is all in the past. Isn’t it?
JH: Did anyone say otherwise?
JA: I know it won’t be easy, but in the past, before we started dating…can we just be like that?
JH: Do you think that’s possible?
JA: I just mean wouldn’t it be nice if we could.
JH: For whom?
JA: I think I brought up a pointless topic. If it made you uncomfortable, I’m sorry.
JA: I’ll get going first.

Came across this on you-tube (lol, it could be just anyone, masked robbers or whoever) - supposedly by Dispatch, no less!

Real, or False hope for the shippers! (who can see signs in anything - same rings, same shoes, same shirt ... whatever :P) .  Take it whichever way floats your boat!

THANKS everyone for this journey together.  :wub:B)   THANKS to all recaps, updates, pictures and enjoyable comments overall.

As I just commented on Bah and Doo:

TOTALLY … seriously, why introduce so much angst that cannot be resolved anyways? And nothing much is really resolved, is it … moving forward in their next chapter – their problem solving coping mechanisms are quite diff. with meeting middle ground.

Challenges in life are not going to go away.

I left off 2 wks ago. Grateful and appreciative for the recaps to keep me in the loop … and prob will check out last episode (as in, view)  bec it seems to have less stressful needless angst.

MUCH THANKS for faithfully recapping, for better or worse … all these 16 episodes of the Pretty Noona ride!

JH goes drunk to JA's door to ask whether she is able to just view him as a little brother again.

JA: Why are you here?
JH: Were you being sincere? You said you wanted to go back to how it was before. Were you being sincere about that?
JH: Like in the old days, do you hope that we can be like an older sister and little brother?  Do you want it to be that way?! As if nothing had happened, can you look at me that way?
JH: If I were just a little brother who begged you to buy me food, would you like that?! If I did that?!
JA: Why are you being like this?
JH: I asked you… if that’s what you wanted?! I’m asking if you can really do that, right now!
JA: Outside.
JH: Let go. Let go!

JA: You’re too drunk right now. If you have something to say to me, say it when you’re sober.
JH: I am drunk. I am very drunk. But, I would ask you the same thing. And, I want to hear your answer. Tell me. Can you return to that state and look at me as if nothing had happened? Can you do that?
JA: I said wouldn’t it be better if we could be like that.
JH: That’s why I asked, for whom? Not for me. Even if you hit me until I died, I can’t do that. Yoon Jin Ah can do that? You can?
JA: Why couldn’t I? At first, it’ll probably be uncomfortable. But as we kept doing it, we’ll probably get used to it. Don’t you think?
JH: You’re evil. You’re really, really evil.

JA finally gets fed up and yells back at JH.

JA: It may be hard, but I had hoped that we could see each other with a little less discomfort. Then, I thought it would be a little less difficult, a little less painful. Is that so wrong? Is that something that you should call me evil for?
JH: I got it. You did well.
JA: What did I do so wrong? What did you do so right?! If you just suddenly insist that we should leave no matter what, then what was I supposed to do?! It was because you couldn’t endure it and you were fed up with it all! That’s why! That it was all for me was just your excuse! If not, then tell me! Tell me what it was!
JA: You just left like that, and do you think that I lived comfortably afterwards? At the end of the path,…I stood alone. With all those people looking at me in pity, I felt crazy and despised you. Still, the me who was holding on so tightly and enduring it, I hated her. That me, every day, hating her and blaming her, I got through it.
JA: Since this was the price for hurting you and Kyung Sun, I figured I deserved even worse. I’ve been living just thinking like that. That hellish time, do you even know? Are you even aware of it?
JH: Why do I have to know?! Yoon Jin Ah… How Yoon Jin Ah lived, what does that have to do with me?!

Not sure what led to this reconciliation scene since I haven't watched the episode yet, but it's the reconciliation between JA and her mother.

JA: Mom? What?
Mother: I’m sorry.
JA: So suddenly. Why is Mom not acting like yourself?
Mother: As a parent, there are just some things that a mom had to do. One can’t just watch a child doing something she thinks is wrong.
JA: Well, I…since I can’t live the way Mom wants me to, so I understand.
Mother: If you know, that’s fine.
JA: Oh, really, why are you being like this today? Just do as you always do.
Mother: I hate the sight of you, so just go.
JA: Mom, let’s hug once.

JA: Mom
JA: I’m fine now.
Mother: As you live, if things get hard, come back any time.
JA: Mom and I don’t really get along together, so I think it’s better if we live apart.
JA: I’ll come for visits whenever I have time. Go on in. I’ll call.
Mother: You’ll be late for your plane.
JA: I’m going.

Not sure how to feel about this scenes since I'm not sure what led up to it. I guess I'll have more thoughts about it later.

LOL .. false hope then. :D:lol:

Shippers, WILL believe what THEY want to believe, and see signs of.

One of the commenters summed it up beautifully in Bah and Doo. And this, beyond 'romantic notions'  is reality. Life is UNpredictable and  not always smooth sailing. It's how one copes together that tides one through the rougher rides that come, longer term.

And this drama after introducing all the tension, has NOT really show any of that in the couple's growth.

LOVE does not necc conquer all. That's just romantic, but not necc reality.

While JA has grown a backbone and come to appreciate her independence (YAY!) ... there's still a part of her that dates men who fits her family 'conditioning'. Mom is still mom, who is realistic bec folks (esp that old) do not change. But more resigned to the fact that's how it is with her daughter, though mom can still hope.  And appa is still appa though prob mom is now aware of how he feels and hopefully they can grow old with more mellow understanding.

JH still runs away when the heat gets too hot, and he gets fed up. Or gets really riled up and reactive. Though he can be more mature than JA sometimes (and that's not that hard either)

NOTHING's changed really. They're back to Sq 1 and initial attraction.

Who knows what long-term feasibility (realistically) for their relationship is?

About the different colors of umbrellas, if the writer was trying to make it relevant and memorable in the drama sad that it didn't. It din't became memorable to this drama.

Well, the first red brolly was memorable. The others, not so much. The writing failed to make them relevant. If anything, it compromised the significance of the first red umbrella. IMHO anway.

The last ep i watched was 11 (raw).

The excitement of their  chemistry from the beginning started to wane off for me when I did not see development with communication.  What did they both want out of the relationship?  I started to question that and I could not find the answers (between hiding/fighting her mom and other issues).  I was hoping that him going to US for the 3yrs that they would find ways to communicate their feelings and what they mean to each other and also provide some  space that I think they needed.....I wanted to see them dealing with a long distance relationship even if it was hard to keep up  but I wanted to see that growth in both...I hope I'm making sense.

Since I have not watch all ep from 11, i will stop there.  I did enjoy watching this drama but wanted a bit more.

Thank you to all @stroppyse and @jeijei , the team who did translation and all commentators who made watching fun.

Yeah I kinda agree on the red one. If only the writer used the same color til the end, it "might" have been memorable.

Re: Those brollies.

I did feel it was somehow symbolic. Like traffic lights - all 3 colors: red, green, yellow

Red = forbidden, dangerous, illegal

Green = go for it

Yellow = Hmmm. To go or not to go?

So they have three umbrellas right?

The red one means they shouldn't jump in this relationship in 2nd ep.

The green one means they've gone too fast for awhile.

Now the yellow one. Should it mean it's time to restart really slow and certain.

Reminds me of the movie Starman where yellow means  go  very fast

Red umbrella: warm, enthusiastic love, first launching from JH

Green Umb: slower, but stabilized & incisive love from JA

Yellow umb.: (she jettisoned both red & green umbrella when she left to Jeju) restart their love, together!

other meaning: the love come from the rain, they always need a/some umbrella!

haha...

I second that! Been a lurker for a while now... love these couple and hope to see them work again together. I’m now going to follow Hae In in his future dramas.

All recappers, and those who posted goodies for all of us here thank you. I’m satisfied with the ending and the drama as a whole. A roller coaster ride but most especially I’m happy I got to know Hae In in this drama and that made this drama complete...

Wow - best romance show this year to date. I was so excited each week to watch their chemistry - so palpable. Too bad it's over. The guy is hot.....

First of all- he never should have left for the US in the first place!! Secondly, I reckon they should have had the time jump scene earlier on so we got more time with them together and maybe getting married and having babies! I think that's the least we deserved. The ending was shallow/ hollow for me. At least  I can get on with my life now- I'm not completely Attached. Annyeong - SITR, I loved you in the beginning but we fizzled out in the end- our unhealthy relationship is over now- have a good life!!
