Tango27 2,434 Posted January 18, 2018 lby is weeping already she says I chose this work because of feeling responsibility , and not because of viewership when she saw the topic about abused children , she felt she had to do it she also say..... this work will not be entertaining or will have audience rating , its about the responsibility
jfritz09 216 Posted January 18, 2018 @Tango27 LBY still looks gorgeous even with the short hair... I really admire her for taking on a project that may not be a big commercial hit just because she believes in a cause and wants to lend her support by bringing more public awareness to it.

jongski 36,693 Posted January 19, 2018 I hope this drama is good and well written. As mentioned previous pages. I underwhelmed with tvN previous jdrama version for The Liar and his Lover (unlike JTBC versiong Solomon's Perjury..w/c was good). I'm going to watch this. Omg.. this will be one weeping drama from the looks of it. I guess for LBY, when one becomes a mother, you choose roles which is closer to your heart and story plot in which social responsibility and awareness can transcend to the viewers. But still have that great kdrama style. Demographics for this drama, likely mature viewers, wives and mothers. Thanks for the presscon updates. Much appreciated.
jfritz09 216 Posted January 19, 2018 @Tango27 Thanks for posting that video, it is so good! Without proper sub-titles, I don't really understand what the characters were saying, but I became so emotionally invested already. I think this has the potential to be ranked among the best dramas that I've seen.
Tango27 2,434 Posted January 20, 2018 NEW DRAMA "MOTHER" CALLS ATTENTION TO MOTHERHOOD AND CHILD ABUSE With a number of child abuse cases rattling South Korea in the last few months, a new TV series delves into the subject by exploring mother-daughter relationships, which, according to director Kim Chul-kyu, can be the most dynamic of all human relations. The 16-episode "Mother" on tvN, the Korean remake of a Japanese TV series of the same title, will depict the complicated, multifaceted relations between mothers and daughters, the director said at a media briefing at a hotel in southern Seoul on Thursday."I don't want to talk about how great maternal love is. The drama will shed light on various mother-daughter relationships that can be so warm and beautiful, but painful and ugly at the same time," said the director of "Chicago Typewriter" and "On the Way to the Airport." "Plus, I hope the drama raises awareness about child abuse and that no child is neglected or abused." The drama centers on the relationship between cool-headed elementary school teacher Soo-jin, played by Lee Bo-young, who is determined never to become a mother due to her complex relations with her own mother, and her student Hye-na. In spite of herself, Soo-jin is drawn to the 7-year-old girl who tries to hide that she is being mentally and physically abused by her single mother. Soo-jin decides to take her troubled student with her on a trip, without telling her mother. "Since I gave birth, every child abuse case has caught my attention. I was compelled to do this drama," Lee said, clearly having a lump in her throat. "I felt responsible for raising public awareness about such cases." She married actor Ji Sung in February 2013 and gave birth to a baby girl in 2015. "The fact that the original drama is very good and has been very popular was a secondary concern to me," she said. "Mother" is considered one of the most anticipated TV series this year. Celebrated screenwriter Jeong Seo-Gyeong adapted the original Japanese drama for the remake. She wrote the scripts for "The Handmaiden," "Lady Vengeance" and "Thirst," all helmed by award-winning director Park Chan-wook. "I was a bit overwhelmed in the beginning because I had to write 16 episodes. But once I got down to it, I realized there were enough room for me to create more stories for each character," Jeong said. A mother of two herself, the writer said a spate of horrible child abuse incidents spurred her to take the job. But rather than talking about the evil of child abuse, she wants to put more focus on how strong and resilient the victims are. "The story is about strong motherly love but also about a strong child," she said. "Hye-na has had many terrible acts done to her by adults, but she is resilient enough to overcome her plight on her own." The Wednesday-Thursday drama will premiere at 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 24. credits@omonatheydidnt
Tango27 2,434 Posted January 20, 2018 I did not know child abuse was a thing in Korea , but it tuns out to be one of the hidden dirty secrets like other countries < it has been going up by half each year ...with official finding it hard to interfere because it clashes with tradition ...there has been at least a couple of murder cases by parents its an issue all over the world and I am curious to know how will Koreans react to a drama that targets social awareness

ibru 44,369 Posted January 21, 2018 [HanCinema's Drama Preview] "Mother - Drama" 2018/01/20 | 132 views | You can love or hate the remakes of Korean drama, but they are here to stay and they have the potential to evolve into solid works of their own. Choosing a critically acclaimed Japanese drama to do an adaptation of is not an easy decision, but "Mother - Drama" has a lot going for it. Will this manage to meet the great potential it has built up so far? Premise Originally an Ornithology specialist, Soo-jin (Lee Bo-young) becomes a substitute teacher at an elementary school. It is there that she meets Hye-na (Heo Yool-I) and quickly discovers the little girl's life of abuse. Soo-jin decides to run away with Hye-na in order to spare her from domestic violence. The Worrying Remake Risks From the practical, such as the episode number, to the cultural, such as changing tones and approach, there are a lot of elements to consider here. For one, Lee Bo-young and Heo Yool-I have to form great chemistry and match some hefty performances. The creators need to capture the heart of the original without making a carbon copy. Drama Vs. Film Writer Jeong Seo-kyeong's long-time film collaborations with Park Chan-wook are quite the credentials and while I do not doubt the writer's talent, the difference in media and the last-minute nature of Korean drama filming are tricky things to tackle, I imagine even more so for the first time. Can the writer adapt to and keep up with this environment? The Reassuring Capable Creators Worries over time and production management aside, writer Jeong Seo-kyeong and director Kim Cheol-gyoo have some mighty impressive titles between them. Their content is diverse in genres and it is unique enough in its respective industries that they could bring a fresh type of drama content together. Leading Duo While the chemistry and Heo Yool-I's acting skills are unknown factors at the moment, a powerful make-believe mother and daughter duo is the very core of "Mother - Drama". If those things work and we have a solid effort from the supporting and guest cast, this drama will be a great ride. Closing Thoughts Handling abuse takes a lot of tact, great respect and solid writing chops. It is a topic which is sadly too simplified in Korean drama at times, but one which is as timely as ever and everywhere. My hope is that this will be a drama like no other, because this is what it needs to be for the sake of its subject matter. I am nervous, but I love what I see and know so far. "Mother - Drama" begins its run on January 24th and will air every Wednesday and Thursday at 21:30 KST, on tvN. It is directed by Kim Cheol-gyoo, written by Jeong Seo-kyeong and features Lee Bo-young, Heo Yool-I, Lee Hye-young-I and Lee Jae-yoon.
