JYJ Jaejoong Yoochun Junsu EST: Late 2009 to Present April 3, 2010 – Avex announced the hiatus of their Japanese activities. Later in the month they also announced that Jaejoong, Yoochun and Junsu would appear as a “sub-group” at “Thanksgiving Live in the Dome” concerts in Japan. S.M. Entertainment filed a lawsuit against JYJ to validate their contracts. June 2010 – Jaejoong, Junsu and Yoochun perform 4 days of “Thanksgiving Live in the Dome” concerts at Osaka Dome and Tokyo Dome. The DVD for their “Thanksgiving Live in the Dome” concert sold 116,000 copies. The live album and DVD both debuted at #1 on the Oricon DVD and album charts in the same week. Kyocera Dome June 5, 2010 Tokyo Dome June 12-13, 2010 June 25, 2010 – JYJ submitted a lawsuit against S.M. Entertainment to void their exclusive contracts. Following the suits, S.M. Entertainment attempted to denounce JYJ and their new agency C-JeS June 30, 2010 – Avex released three of TVXQ's greatest hits albums on June 30, including the “Complete Single A-side Collection,” “Single B-side Collection,” and “Complete Set Limited Box.” August 2010 – JYJ performed September 2010 – Avex announced plans to suspend all of JYJ’s Japanese activities. Avex claimed this stemmed from issues the label had with the president of JYJ’s Korean management, C-JeS Entertainment. September 8, 2010 – JYJ released debut extended play “The …” and sold 140,000 albums in the first week. October 12, 2010 – JYJ released their English debut album, “The Beginning.” Two weeks before the release of the album, 500,000 copies of it had been pre-ordered and pre-sales for the 99,999 copies of the special edition of the album had reached 400,000 requests. It featured “Ayyy Girl,” a song produced by American artist Kanye West. “Empty” debuted at #18 in Korea during the album's release with strong digital sales. “Empty” MV Behind the scenes October -November 2010 – JYJ toured Asia to promote the album, starting with two showcases in Seoul on October 12, at the 11,000 seating Hwaseong Tiger Dome at Korea University. Tickets sold out in 15 minutes with a portion of the profits donated to World Vision charity. JYJ planned concerts in the United States in New York, Las Vegas and Los Angeles, but were denied P1 visas for these concerts. In response, JYJ performed free showcases on these dates and refunded ticket purchasers. 6,400 people attended the New York showcase, despite the venue being able to hold only 3,400 people. JYJ’s other planned US dates in Seattle, San Francisco and Hawaii were later cancelled. It was more of a journal to fans who continue to stick by with them hand in hand. Immediately after it’s released, it shot up to number 1 spot in Hanteo charts selling over 150,000 copies Feb 2011 ● the Seoul Central District Court dismissed SM Entertainment's injunction against the three members, filed in April 2010 for damage compensation. March 2011 ● Immediately after the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, JYJ donated₩600,000,000 to World Vision Japan fulfilling the organization's entire fundraising goal. This was like a token of appreciation for Japanese fans who stood by them despite all obstacles. Aug 2011 ● JYJ was appointed Goodwill Ambassadors for the United Nations agency UNAIDS. JYJ and UNAIDS launched a social media awareness campaign to combat HIV/AIDS discrimination via Twitter using the hashtag #LoveAlways. The group also performed at the 10th International Congress on Aids in Asia and the Pacific (ICAAP10), a gathering of AIDS experts and activists from 26–30 August 2011 in Busan, South Korea. Sept 2011 ● Released of In Heaven album. It was released on 28 September 2011 under C-JeS Entertainment with three covers: Red, Blue and Brown Editions, and a Black Edition a week later. It sold 165,000 copies within 3 days of release and surpassed 350,000 sales mark. Bravo! Nov 2011 ● After the 2011 Thailand floods, JYJ donated ₩200,000,000 in November 2011 toWorld Vision, matching and doubling the organization's fundraising goal for flood relief in Thailand, for the purpose of dispensing emergency food aid, water treatment, mosquito nets and other daily necessities. Dec 2011 ● Released Come On Over, a DVD documentary about the 3 members’ private lives, at the end of 2011. The footage was filmed from late December 2010 to February 2011, following each individual member's lives for a number of days. Some scenes included: a birthday party, a snowboarding venture, the rehearsal for a musical, and behind-the-scenes look of one of JYJ's fanmeets for their endorsements. ● JYJ spearheaded their "Mango Tree Project" by working with World Vision and ELLEKorea to gift "mango trees of hope to children" in South Sudan. JYJ, along with labelmates Park Yoohwan and Song Jihyo, recorded Korean, Japanese, and English videos discussing the project to raise awareness and to encourage donations with the goal of planting 20,000 mango trees ahead of Christmas in South Sudan. The mango trees symbolize hope and provide food and a sheltered meeting spot which can serve as classrooms for children. JYJ Worldwide Concert Feb 2012 ● JYJ released a 90-minute film titled The Day in South Korea. It was a documentary film featuring their daily lives and dreams, and was screened for 4 days at Lotte Cinema‘s 17 major chain theatres across the country, drawing 24,000 fans. JYJ was appointed as honorary ambassadors for the 2012 Nuclear Security Summit to be held in Seoul on 26 and 27 March. JYJ performed at a special concert hosted by the First Lady at the Blue House reception hall on the second day of the Summit for the spouses of the world leaders June 2012 ● JYJ held the first ever large-scale international fan fair in South Korea. The "2012 JYJ Membership Week" was put together specifically as a gift for their fans, and fully funded by the members themselves in spite of numerous sponsorship offers. It was held for 4 days— from June 28 to July 1—at SETEC (Seoul Trade Exhibition & Conventions) at Hak Yeo Ul station and cost an estimated KRW 3.7 billion. The membership week included photographic and video-based exhibitions of the group, theatre screenings ofThe Day as well as two sets of fan meetings that invited over 15,000 Korean fans and 7,000 Japanese fans. The huge influx of foreigners was the largest for a single event, and generated great economic benefits for South Korea. JYJ's representative C-JeS Entertainment has announced that this Membership Week event will be held annually. Aug 2012 ● released Mahalo, a premiere collection photobook with over 200 pages taken during their trip to Hawaii in December 2011. Oct 2012 ● Due to their strong status as Hallyu stars in both Korea and Japan, JYJ was appointed as the publicity ambassadors for the "2012 Korea Brand & Entertainment Expo" to promote international business exchange between the two countries. The expo, sponsored by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy and Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and conducted by KOTRA and Korea Creative Content Agency, was held at Osaka-Intex Exhibition Centre in Japan from November 14 to November 16, of which the group attended the opening ceremony and met with 500 fans chosen from over 26,000 applications. Nov 2012 ● During a voluntary arbitration at the Seoul Central District Court, SM Entertainment and JYJ reached a mutual agreement to terminate all contracts between the two parties and not to interfere with each other's activities in the future. This concluded the three years and four months long exclusive contract lawsuit in Korea. AVEX (prior company in Japan) has to pay 7.8 million KRW to CJES (JYJ agency) and in addition, pay 1.1 million KRW to CJES CEO (a punishment for defaming CJES CEO). Essentially, JYJ is now free to resume it's activities in Japan... But...AVEX appealed. JYJ Albums The... Jaejoong is in the military band as well as working his regular military duties. Kim Junsu is expected to begin his military service (after basic training) as Conscripted Policeman in February 2017... JYJ Stands On Stage As a Whole During 2015 Pop Culture and Arts Awards JiwonYu October 29, 2015 All three JYJ members have stood on stage as a whole during the 2015 Pop Culture and Arts Awards! As previously hinted, JYJ fans were hoping that members Junsu, Jaejoong, and Yoochun would perform together for this award ceremony. Although they did not sing together, all three did attend the event and receive their Prime Minister’s Award. C-Jes Entertainment stated, “JYJ is the first-ever idol group to receive a Prime Minister’s Award. All three attended the event and thanked their fans. They received this award because JYJ has been promoting for over 10 years and spread K-pop, K-drama, Korean musicals, and Korean films worldwide.” This was the first time in seven months that JYJ got together, after Jaejoong’s military enlistment in March. Many domestic and international fans also came to the event to support them. During their award speech, JYJ said, “Thank you so much for inviting us to this honorable event and giving us this meaningful award. It’s been a while since the three of us have officially attended an event together. We will continue to work hard to spread the Korean culture.” Watch their speech below!
