  1. So she won the contest....lol!! I loved the ending scene! it's been a while since a drama ended on a definitively positive note! Excuse the quality of the pics, I got them off tvN's video on FB. I love how EunHo revealed their relationship. No need for the usual office dramatics of the gossip spreading the news. My hearteu!! Ms Go and Chairman being all cute about their romance.... I wish all the quote in the bonus book at the end of the drama could be collated into a book about EunHo and DanI!! They were so beautiful, I'll rewatch the drama just because I want to read them again and feel warm inside!!
  2. I feel you girl!! All the best!! Don't give up!! I think that DanI had to resign so that she will come back to the company on merit. We have to get the low moments when she's defeated, so that when she wins the idea contest, we feel happy (in your face Ms Go!!) I am convinced she'll win that contest! I died at this moment when their relationship is revealed!! It's almost like it happened to a friend!!!
  3. I'm loving this drama!! I think it's the underdog factor that makes me root so hard for our couple! They're so earnest, so open, so sweet, so excited about one another... I just want them to be happy! I didn't watch Goblin and probably never will, but since I know YIN & LDW from other dramas, I knew they would be great together. No ridiculous kissing scenes!! When the drama started, the rest of the staff looked like props because they didn't say much, but I love how they all have backstories that are making us understand them, relate with them and root for them. I especially love the Ukelele couple. I really need Lawyer Dan to end up with Mr Ukelele. (OMG!! His Hair!!)) As we head into the final stretch, I want to see the troubles bringing them together and a happily ever after with a wedding and kids, so help me drama gods!! EDIT: May I note how perfect our lawyer is??!!! He's cool but expressive and open, caring, CONSIDERATE!!, courageous, straightforward. I'd fall for a man like this so easily!! No wonder uri actress is so dumbstruck by his spectacular speeches, like when he reveals something about his thoughts or tells his dad that she's his secretary but most importantly, his girlfriend. I also need men to start using the line of man makeup LDW endorses because his normally succulent lips are even more delicious!!!
  4. @bebebisous33 , thanks for the tag (way back when). I'm watching the drama but not commenting because I am too emotionally spent after Ahjussi, Encounter and SKY Castle to analyse anything anymore. lol. However, the romance is causing me cavities, but I really need a grown up," its-been-20years-of-EUNHO-waiting-and-DanI-hasn't-had-sex-for-a-while-and-she-really-needs-it" kiss from the two right about now!!! I have been wondering about the title of the drama. Does the Bonus Book refer to the bonus scenes after the drama ends?
  5. Y'all!! The posters are finally here!! I have followed the drama hashtag on Instagram, but what they've been doing is drip feeding us information with little to no news updates. With the posters out, I feel like it's real real! Can I just say how much I am anticipating this drama!! I just need the days to fly until April and we can get this show on the road! One more month! Even though the story is about the aftermath of the bullying, I am mostly looking forward to interactions between the spouses and between the couples. JTBC, I need more of these adult dramas! I have watched Memory by the writer/PDNim duo so I expect a good story. Don't let me down!!
  6. what a ride!!! the last episode may have been too full of laughter and sugary scenes especially since we've been used to high level twists, but thankfully all the ends were wrapped up... no rushing the finale... unlike other dramas I will not name . I will never have to create fantasies and theories about what happened to the characters. Prof. Cha remained a hoot to the end. That text he sent was the equivalent of the Drunken Truth song, and a realistic wrap up for his character. I agree. Realistically, will things change at a national and policy level? Probably not. Hence the scene with the VVIPs coming in for the consultation. It's a case of Rinse.Repeat, but the residents of SKY Castle know better and they laugh when the new resident tells them of her education plans. Can parents in Korea make a change with their own children? Yes. The ball is in their court now. The drama has made me think seriously about education. There's a lot I took for granted in my view of education, and hopefully I can make better decisions than I would have if I hadn't ever watched the show. Ratings at 24.37% Seoul and 23.77 national. I had hoped for 25% but this is better than I expected when I started the drama. JTBC have another promising drama coming in April called Beautiful World (same timeslot) that promises to be an issue-driven, adults drama. I'm looking forward to it.
  7. Its over!! The ending calmed my fears. Not perfect, but much better than I feared. I guess I'll have to watch Mexican telenovela for endings with complete closure. thankfully, we see marriage by June 2021 (get married now!!) and a Santiago honeymoon. (Have koreans started taking interest in travelling there? lol). And two kids. I'll definitely be rewatching this drama every so often. I needed some cavity inducing romantic drama since most dramas have been gritty and emotional. Seeing a Male character like KJH that's so loving, caring, considerate, honorable.... they've set up the valentine's day mood for me! He's now among my dreamy men, with Mr.Darcy, Alejandro from Sortilegio and JoKuk from City Hall.
  8. I was ready for today's episode...they obviously must break up, but I'm not sure if Korean screenwriters collectively decided that Aristotle was wrong when he postulated about Catharsis..... that's what we watch dramas and movies and tell gossip for, the release of emotion after being wound up in the last 14 episodes.... (we already suffered with Alhambra. She better not test me tomorrow night!!) It's like a thing with these writers... stab you, turn the knife and leave it in there.... with the blood of unresolved or hastily cobbled up endings pouring down your chest. They need to know Aristotle is called THE PHILOSOPHER for a reason! He knew what he was saying! Catharsis is the most important feeling in a story!! I want CSH to be the one to run after KJH. He's done enough. Let her come to him. Where does she think she's running off to? Cuba??? ¡por supuesto que NO!! I hope what we saw was her running to get back her man! As for KJH mother.... I was just annoyed listening to her. Best believe that I would have let my opinion be heard about that stunt she pulled. No Ms Nice Filial Daughter!!! I hope tomorrow turns out better. A definitive ending at minimum. They must get back together!!
  9. Despite coming from a different set up, this show has made me think twice about how to approach education. I wanted to judge the Koreans who were influenced by the show to get education consultants for their children, but if I think about it critically, there is some sense in hiring a consultant. I'm sure a real life consultant isn't as crazy as Coach Kim (I hope!! Lol.) The education structure in Korea would demand someone like this, so to be honest, the logic of a consultant, within reasonable borders and proper oversight by parents is something I can get behind. Also, in as much as Prof Cha is ridiculous, his analysis of the world is spot on. That's the way the world operates. Elite, upper class, middle class, low class. And education is a fundamental way to create and access these classes!! How do we level the pyramid? Make quality education accessible across the board regardless of your income bracket? Etc.... I was so glad to see YeSeo's dad finally break down and confront everyone. Some Korean comments I read from the links here had no sympathy for him, but kudos to the actor!! His crying and wailing was one of the highlights of the show for me!! Whoa!! He's learned his lesson quickly and is willing to learn the lesson for the greater good of his family. I want to castigate SuJin but the writer has made her dilemma so understandable that I can't even hate her for picking the leaked exam papers! Her acceptance in the family is predicated on YeSeo entering SNU. They have worked hard and honestly, only to be undermined at the very last moment. YeSeo is innocent of the theft but will pay for her parents greed... man, what decision do I make so that she is spared the consequences??? But SuJin still a manipulative liar who needs to learn a lesson..... Writernim is amazing!! Shoot me but a tiny part of me wondered if that leak was deliberate,to excite people more and get even higher ratings. Even if it wasn't, if I was an executive at JTBC, I would see the upside of the leak. I'm still excited for the ratings though, I see extreme ratings on Saturday night!! I don't have much taste in fashion, but I know a good drama right from the synopsis! What will I do with my life after next weekend? PS. Someone should start a petition for Coach Kim to do a melodrama as the protagonist!! Too many evil roles! It's enough! I'm sure she'd kill it as a melo protagonist!! I want to see her in a kiss scene!! PPS: Why did Yeseo's dad shave his moustache!!! he was so daddy with it!!! PPPS: there's a composition that was played in ep 18 called Ma Mere L'Oye (My Mother Goose) You can read more at this link . "The Ravel Mother Goose suite (Ma Mere l'Oye) is a charmingly delicate and imaginative little suite of fairytale pieces.....Ravel first wrote the Mother Goose Suite in 1908 for two children whose parents he was friends with, in a four-hand suite for solo piano. The children, Mimi and Jean Godebski, were extremely fond of him since he told them fairytales, some of which he made up on the spot!"
  10. I don't know about y'all, but I'm out of theories. I'll just wait for whatever will happen because Writernim is determined to shock us!! The last few minutes of episode 16 had me watching my screen with my mouth open, and I'm not exaggerating!! This drama continues to serve comedy alongside a thrilling story and societal issues. Seeing the parents fighting, Prof. Cha spitting on Doc while defending his daughter with the arguments he had rejected a few scenes earlier just shows the quality of comedic writing and acting. The friendships keep shifting, with characters falling out and making up because they need to gain something from one another, and inner biases showing in times of crisis. The dignified and sober Seung Hye had avoided judging SuJin but finally showed her prejudice when she called SuJin with her commoner name during the argument....KWAK MI HYANG!!! That scene was as jolting as it was hilarious, but very much in tune with the lyrics of the OST. "We all lie, tell you the truth..... play with a mask, to hide the truth....". This Castle is full of fakes, but I would also have called SuJin by her name in such a situation, just to shut her down before she plucks off my lips... Like everyone else, I'm so excited to see the stratospheric ratings!! It was an obvious hit right from episode 1 scene 1! Hopefully it can get to 25%+ by the final episode! I expect that the SKY Castle will implode, as shown when KiJoon broke the pyramid. They all need to come back down to the even plane of the round earth. Every family is facing a crisis that threatens their existence. Professor Cha and family may have a headstart in confronting their problems, but they're not out of the woods yet. How will Cha respond to being dethroned? How will the father of HyeNa react to his wife hiding the truth? ( I smell a divorce unless they can learn from their mistakes). Will YeBin lose respect for her mother? Will YeSeo be saved from Coach Kim? What's the deal with Coach Kim? As for Kwak Mi Hyang, I think the writer chose that name because it rhymes with the QUACK that she is. So I call her Quack Mi Hyang.....
  11. Episode 12.... giving me cavities!! 1. Did y'all see the marriage proposal? CSH accepts!! 2. Mr DOP, with the portaits ... 3. This painting was intriguing to me. Sistas all ready to slay!! I wish they'd tell us more about the painters and the paintings in the drama!! 4. Why was this desktop wall paper from Windows 10 on display?? Is it because its a beach photo? They're taking this portrait thing too far!! 5. I haven't read Little Prince yet, but I would love to hear what you make of this shot. 6. I am not a fan of turtlenecks... they could quite possibly be a fashion travesty, but KJH is looking soooooooo amazing here!! OMONA!! Shiny tears!! 7. Product placement as it should be. Unintrusive! LOLLL!! KJH should have tested the springs/foam in the mattress!! CSH! Why would you kick your boyfriend out into the cold after he tucks you in? Let him sleep on your bed! You don't have to do anything! Just let the guy sleep comfortably, especially after he threw so many hints!! 8. The wolf reference.... 9. The storm clouds gathering on the horizon overwhelm CSH, distracting her from her work. She hesitates in signing a document, puts it away, goes to a corner of her office, and is so overwhelmed she folds down, almost into fetal position. I really felt the weight of her dilemma!! 10. When KJH is taking the food to Ms Lee, he listens to "One Leads to Another" by Robbie Nevil. The lyrics are very much the love story of KJH and CSH. 11. I know JWS is receiving justifiable hate for his behavior right now, but I think he's setting things up to redeem himself and help CSH completely cut off from Taegyeong. His meanspirited talk is like his request for a divorce, making himself look like the bad guy to save CSH. Being a weak man, his only strategy in life is passive aggressiveness and sneaky backdoor machinations. In my conjecture, I think that he will impale himself on his mother's sword and save CSH by possibly giving CSH the shares he's accumulated. She can end up as majority shareholder and have the hotel to herself. I do not want to walk away from her hotel empty handed in the name of love. She has paid for that hotel with blood, sweat and tears. She should keep it! 12. I like how the Secretary thinks she cannot ride in a delivery truck, but a wealthier CSH has no problem riding around in that truck!! Secretary needs to come off her high horse, considering that she doesn't even have a car of her own!! 13. The conversation in the office... KJH needs to keep reading what he's reading because I melted when he said, "I cherish you very much!". I would climb mountains for a man like KJH!! Cherish is such a beautifully loaded word! Cherish - protect and care for (someone) lovingly. adore, hold dear, love, care very much for, feel great affection for, dote on, be devoted to, revere, esteem, admire, appreciate; That statement is like the Spanish phrase, "Me Haces Falta" - I Need You. Loaded. Next week is going to be hell for our couple. Chairwoman will come down on CSH, KJH will be collateral damage, CSH's dad will have to confront Chairwoman and tell her to her face that he's not running for president, CSHs mum will throw a major fit at her husband and daughter, our couple will suffer for their love, but as far as I am concerned, we better get a happy ending!!! Not a sad ending, or worse still, an open ended one !!
  12. So they totally trolled us yesterday with the kiss scene..... Anyway, we still got a beautiful kiss which szdhaushakjhfadsjhsdhjka. 1. That opening animation was so scary y'all!! And you could hear the wolf walking!! The beast overwhelmed the animation with its bigness!! I'm terrified for our couple!! Thankfully the boy is holding a star, and the girl pats the nose of the wolf in the ending animation. There is big trouble ahead, but CSH will fight the battle and subdue the wolves, with KJH by her side. She is no longer alone. 2. I was definitely waiting for the horizontal salsa scene..... Directornim!!! Dunno about y'all, but our girl put our boy to sleep!! I insist!! She put him to sleep!! 3. This couple is visuals on overload!! That whole sequence in Cuba, riding around in the car, on the beach and in the tree lined lane in SK... I would have bought what they were selling!! WOW!! Such beautiful shots!! The director is going crazy with the photos and portraits as a motif!! 4. Mr Smooth Operator with the Killer Kabedon!! I was pouting my lips in anticipation!! My favourite scene is definitely the drunk scene, when CSH remembers what she did. I loved that reversal!! And that kiss sneaked in there!! Drunkards never lie!! KJH teasing her with the song brought the whole scene together perfectly. I'm sure there were important things to uncover in this episode, but I was more engaged in the visual feast that was on display!! Such beautiful people! Such beautiful shots!!
  13. Towards the end of episode 1, we're being set up for the poem about meeting again and the stars. CSH and KJH have a fantabulous time in Havana and eventually separate. They sit in their hotel rooms and bask in the warm feelings of their experience. They're grinning ear to ear, the smiling must be hurting their faces, but who cares! El Malecon was perfect! The camera pans out from the two and turns towards what they're looking at, the skyline and sky, with conspicuously twinkling stars in the sky.... continuation of the stars scene (because animated gifs can't be too long) Hindsight is truly 20/20!! lol!
  14. My train of thought was set off by that shot of the broken camera viewfinder. It's been driving me crazy!! But first, those portrait shots from the DOP. CSH on the way to Cuba, her image in the window, then the camera pulls back and we see her in the seat. Despite his positive vibe and open character KJH is passive in his interactions with the world. He watches the world from behind his camera and learns about the world from books. Our first view of KJH is him behind the camera, taking many photos of Cuba. All good, after all he is a photographer. He studies the world, he does not participate in it, he does not experience it. He doesn't seem to have had a girlfriend and learns about love from books. He observes people and things studiously from behind the lens, and notes the life lessons he's learned in his diary. He meets Samuel... He is sitting at a beautiful square but barely watches it, preferring to read. he takes a photo of the bird.... He must be pushed from passively studying the world from behind the camera, into actively participating in the world. That's why his camera breaks. Also note, in the crash scene, KJH doesn't get to see CSH, which is a key thing we're being set up for. (CSH is watching him from inside the car, which is obviously the glass screen between them.) The negotiation happens with Secretary and KJH tries to take a photo. KJH doesn't want compensation because memories cannot be compensated. But whose memories are they? His memories of other people's experiences. He's constantly watching and learning from other people, not experiencing life in front of the camera. Especially in our age of selcas. Public service announcement....Another one of those DOP portrait shots.... we jump to CSH at the hotel is being warned that something is about to happen in El Malecon, something perfect. Back to KJH, now that his camera is broken, he can finally participate in real life. He's attacked by a cutie who wants him to dance. He dances for a while with the girl on the street. His camera is not present. He now has some salsa dancing experience. The little girl is gonna come back later as CSH, lol, and he'll use his new moves on her. Elsewhere, CSH, ever observant as she discusses the camera issue with Secretary, makes a realisation as she passes by KJH on the streets. All this time KJH has not seen her. Later, they're on the way to El Malecon and KJH tries to use his camera. He spots CSH in the broken viewfinder but now has to put his camera down to look at her. He finally sees CSH, not as a subject to study photographically, but as a person. He's looking at her, not studying her. Of course, a bit later, he sees her almost fall over and runs just in time to catch her. He would not have been able to react fast enough to catch her if he was busy taking photos. His camera is slung across his shoulder in "resting pose". This is as opposed to someone actively taking photos who would have had the camera slung around one hand at least. CSH then nods off on his shoulder. We've already established that CSH is asleep to the world. She moves around on autopilot, barely experiencing anything. At this beach, she has taken sleeping pills and sleeps them off... She wakes up, and the two finally see each other, minus the obstructions in their lives, KJHs camera and the effect of her pills. This is the first time they look at one another consciously and lucidly. edit; as someone who loves to travel, I realised how much time I wasted taking photos and shopping for crap. Nowadays, I enjoy just being in a place, people watch extremely, take mandatory photos and shop for gifts on my last day. Minimal souvenirs. Thankfully I didn't break cameras for that... Maybe I should have, then I woulda met Mr Namja Chingu!!
  15. To quote the song, KJH is THE WIND BENEATH CSHs WINGS!!! .... and I think that CSH will buy the playground. She must have already signed for the transfer by now. Perfect I LOVE YOU present.
  16. @bebebisous33 , i want to tie your post about the stars with the comments wondering why the director put the balcony scene in the episode when it clearly belongs to another episode. When I first saw that balcony scene, I was so blinded by the lights from the hotels that I almost missed the balcony magic. Firstly, I think the director is milking the poem for all its worth, and the balcony scene just fits the poem perfectly. The city lights are bright, but there are also stars in the sky, very much like the meeting of these two under a multitude of stars and HD lighting. Secondly, now that they've teased us with the balcony scene, I bet you the coming episode will show a spike in ratings because we want MORE!! tvN for the WIN this year!! I've gotten two kissing scenes here and in Alhambra (what an improvement PSH,lol), I mean, can the year start on a better note? Also, as far as I'm concerned, that artwork of the girl coming down with the stars means a whole lot of stuff, but also that they will have to do the horizontal salsa in Cuba. Please PDnim, crew and cast, do not waste the opportunity to give us the horizontal rhumba. You can play some rhumba and have KJH reading yet another poem or quoting some writer, whatever, I don't have to see them to know what they're doing!! Jebal yo!! Away from the kiss, when Driver Nam started talking about the person he couldn't approach, I started laughing because it was so obvious who it was. I felt so clever when CSH confirms it by saying she won't spill his beans to manager Kim. Lol! Did anyone else notice the painting in CSHs window? She's like a painting hoarder at this point, girl, I'm worried!! I see paintings everywhere! This drama has brought out my inner detective that I had rested after My Ahjussi. Why is the painting blocking the view of Seoul? Why would she place it there? Would it be a place she has visited or has fond memories of or wants to visit? If someone can tell us which painting it is or the place in the painting, we can solve the mystery of the painting in the window. @ahdrianaa I'm trying to decide between Mexico and Cuba for the summer, and I think Cuba has pulled ahead thanks to your brilliant post!!
  17. Y'all!! Whoa!! I didn't even bother with screenshots tonight because ...... DAYUM!!! Come thru sis! Come thru!! That kiss scene was spectacular!! He gave a small kiss with a smack, and I thought, hmm, where's this scene going? Then he goes back in for the kiss! She responds! The camera doesn't zoom out for a drone shot!! her arms go round his back! It's becoming more passionate! He's leaning in! They pause to stare at one another! And it went on and on and on...OMG!! Then the shot changes to overlook the bright hotel lights and I spy something at the corner of the screen!! OMO OMONA OMG!! She better be feeling nauseous in two months!! That kiss on the balcony is what I need to start the new year!! My soul is currently over the Atlantic, headed for Cuba because this is the year of Namja Chingu, my chingus!! They can barely stand straight, they're leaning against one another to adjust for stability, they're stumbling around...That scene sent me over the edge! I can't!!! I love it!! Also, whoever did KJH's wardrobe in this episode was determined to destroy me!! He looked absolutely exquisite in the black trouser, white shirt, grey sweater, black shoes.... His entire get up can cost 30,000 won for all I care, but men who dress like that , simple but elegant, they drive me slightly crazy!! Those visuals were meant for me!! I won't even bother watching any other drama tonight!! I'll just replay the last ten minutes!! Someone mentioned earlier today, around 20 pages ago, that KJH needs to step up and be the one to protect CSH otherwise he risks being seen as dependent on CSH. His going to Cuba and convincing the owner is his way of stepping up. It's very much in line with his character to take a long trip to see the important person, use words and letters as his tools to convince the hotel owner, just like JWS would use his power and machinations to solve CSH's problems from the shadows. EDIT: KJH should leave another note at the café, asking CSH to marry him. Then they can come back to Cuba and we can have Cuban passion and a proposal!!
  18. I will agree with you... However, since I normally don't have high expectations of SHG delivering passion, I can let her delivery of skinship pass. Are they trying to mute the passion for the sake of Korean viewers? Like some have said earlier, this is a job, they should deliver. Make us feel the longing!! However, I don't know what Korean viewer factors the production team has to consider, so I will live with it. I have a hypothesis about SHG. I find her acting style to part of an overall SHG brand strategy. She excels in the crying scenes, her characters are almost similar in the way they present her sophistication subliminally, which provokes a sponsorship and advertisement flurry. It is no mistake that she takes her time to choose her dramas. It's almost like her comebacks are to reboot interest in her after the break she takes in between dramas. I bet you the acting fee she has made from the drama is nothing compared to the advertising and sponsorship money she has made since her comeback. If someone can assist me with a list of her sponsorships, I would be grateful. (I'm not sure English media has this comprehensive info.) However, I'm not mad about it, she knows how to leverage her image and brand for income. Get it GIRL!! MAKE THAT MONEY!! Episode 9 was beautiful... The many portrait shots from the Director of Photography. You Stanley Kubrick fan you!! CSH concentrates on the drive, all composed probably trying not to overspeed, but her body language betrays her. she twiddles her fingers impatiently on the steering wheel and I was LEGIT moved!! Honestly, shiny tears are her signature move!! Our "telepathetic" couple - They live through a pathetic one month, then somehow wear similar coats on the day of their reunion. Lol. When they made this break in their hug, I EXPECTED A KISS!! It's been one month!! I don't know about y'all, but my love language is physical/touch, so best believe I'm responding to that hug, and we will kiss the hell out of each other, and I will suck your soul and bone marrow out of you!! One month fam!! One month!! The easiest way to get me to melt. When a character uses this line, it cuts right through me!! I loved her confession! She's so honest about her fears, I was one with her in this scene!! The most important scene was when CSH and ex-hubby met. We finally got to know how the marriage was, terrible. I believe that if Hubby had stepped up to the plate and defended CSH from his mother, CSH would have fallen for him. She expected that from him. Who doesn't love a strong man!! So when she told him how she cannt forget how weak he looked as he looked on helplessly at his evil mum, I understood her fully!! Weak men suck! I sincerely wish ex-hubby will find a love he deserves, and the spine to protect that new woman from his mother. However, his last statement betrayed his jealousy. It seems he does not think that CSH and KJH are serious, or expects that they won't last. Or maybe he's clutching at straws, hoping he still has a chance. Wind is param in Korean. My ears always perk up when I hear the word because it also means affair. Ex-hubby seems to think that she's having a fling, but expects her to come back to her senses. No wonder CSH gave him a sophisticated eyeballing, picked up her stuff and left the room!! Bro, NO! That horse bolted in Cuba!! Finally, A "FREE" CSH comes flying and swoops in for her "book lover" The show lasted 1hr10min, I watched it for three hours... be still my poor heart!!
  19. As always, episode 12 was amazing!! Couldn't catch my breath until the end! Guys, do y'all think that the writer of this drama is Lee Soo Im in the drama? The dialogue between Lee Soo Im and Young Jae's dad about whether to write a story on their misfortune became so clear to me after episode 12. The writer is debating whether to use the real-life story of SeRa Kim in that dialogue. She justifies her POV, that she wants to shed light on something affecting families deeply but doesn't know how to reconcile using real-life stories in her "book", this drama. Once she has explained her POV, SeRi comes back home in ep12. Prof Cha now seems very much like the real SeRa's father, smitten, proud and bragging about his daughter's success, like any parent would be. The revelation of SeRi's mess was hilarious and sad at the same time. The auntie, so flustered and mixing English and Korean because of her anguish was hilarious, but Seung Hye trying to hide the horrible truth from her ecstatic husband while listening to the revelation was sad, and hilarious. That poker face wasn't happening! Writernim, you be killing it!! I want the two to remain evenly matched and spar against one another! I'm currently watching a daily drama where the villain, even as we await the last episode being aired today, has not been arrested, and has committed crimes so evil Koreans complained to KBS about the message the drama is projecting. Murder, assault, fraud... Everyone else in the drama is still in her clutches!! Episode 12 threw up some interesting insights. when Coach Kim goes back to her apartment and switches on the entertainment system, there's an opera playing, which I Shazam'd. The Opera is ErlKonig, Op1 D. 328, a version by Jeno Jando. Erlkonig is a poem written by Goethe about the death of a child assaulted by a supernatural being (WiKI). Here's something brief about the poem. It seems that the drama uses the poem to show children are being haunted by the pressures of the education system, but the parents don't listen until the child is dead. This is an English translation. You can read the poem history and translation here, https://www.britannica.com/topic/Erlkonig https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erlkönig_(Goethe) As I said before, whoever is doing the scoring for dramas this year needs a raise and a holiday!! Amazing stuff in so many dramas! As always, SKY Castle with the hilariousness. JinJin in shock Now that her secret is out Su jin doesn't even bother pretending to be nice anymore!! lol! Watching Coach Kim as she watches her daughter.... I know she mostly plays the villain, but her acting chops are amazing!! And she looked super Kawaii in the drama press conference! Hopefully these gifs can stay in place......
  20. This drama will give me a heart attack!! Ep11 was moving so fast, I was clutching at my chest in the middle of the night! Hye Na moved in and her tie to the family was discovered in one episode! That is a new record for dramas! Seri is shaping up to be another live wire. I doubt she was actually accepted to Harvard, or if she was, she went to America and discovered what "the home of the free" means in the American anthem. If she is in Harvard, I bet she has a GPA of 2.2 in class and 4.5 in clubbing. Her poor, lovely mother! But Prof Cha will probably go nuts! I think Seri has come back to show Prof Cha that his methods cannot work. He is too full of himself to learn from others, so he must learn from his own experiences. The twins are the biggest beneficiaries here. Their parents will change their approach and they will be saved from the education grind. Hye Na is owning that role!! The preview scared the crap out of me!! I love the comedy in this drama. Writernim gave us another brilliant commentary into the impact of educational suicide when Soo Im chatted with Young jae's father, but when Jin Jin had her hair pulled, I laughed so hard. I still want Jin Jin to come out from under Su Jin's clutches. She needs to start winning against her! The status tables must turn soon! BTW, I noticed that there were many shots in Episode 11 that focused on the characters hands and feet. Why do you think that was so?
  21. 1. As I read your analysis about who fell in love / confessed first, there's some things that are clear to me now. We know that CSH is a repressed woman who must constantly monitor her behaviour and keep appearances. She has a lot riding on it, her MIL, her father's image, her image, her mother, the staff, etc. Everyone has claims on her. Her actions have a domino effect in the public domain. All these people and the repercussions of acting out of turn have made her extremely timid. In Cuba, and with JH, we see her true, assertive, take-charge self. She reaches out to JH letting him know that she's interested. Back in Korea, she asks him about the 12:42 phone call, suggests eating ramen etc and other things y'all have mentioned to let KJH know that he can approach her, that the space called boyfriend is open. In episode 6, she suggests they take a walk instead of waiting for the tea lady. KJH notes during this walk, "Your past actions suggest that you can take risks, but why are you hesitant with me?" She then puts her arm in his and smiles innocently. She later lassos him when she ties his tie. (I need to take notes!) Her approach is not direct, it is sneaky, disguised as requests for money, conversation and banter and musical memories of Cuba. She also has to take the lead as the one with more power in the relationship to make herself more approachable and reduce KJHs concerns. She takes charge of the relationship early enough. Her true character must go back into hiding when she is constantly reminded about the reality of her life, she is a CEO, divorcee, politician's daughter, etc. She goes back into hiding, but KJH has already gotten enough courage from her moves and the insight he has into her life to step up and take the lead. He is obviously more open about it now, and she falls back to responding to his efforts. Someone upstairs pointed out how their actions are "parallel". She is obviously conflicted between the assertive person inside that wants to have this relationship and the public side of her that cannot be in a relationship with a poorer, younger, status-less, everything-less KJH. The conflict is what drives her car to the Art bridge to contemplate her choices. That is the conflict KJH talks about as he describes what a SOME is in ep5. "Having an interest in someone is a fight between the certainty and doubt of liking someone. And certainty and doubt cross each other like tides. When that doubt faces away, all that is left is certainty. That's when love begins." She resolves her inner conflict and accepts KJHs proposal for a some. Later, the battle becomes externalized and she chooses to go with her inner assertive self that confesses in public. Her inner assertive self wins over her public repressed self. Her assertiveness is also what tells her mother that she is NEVER going back to TaeGyeong and is not a pawn in her father's political career, factors that her public self had to consider before KJH. All this time, I had seen her as scared and slowly gaining courage, but her true assertive self was always there from episode 1. 2. Someone mentioned KJHs hairstyle during the kiss scene. It is my responsibility to comment. That hairstyle was so manly! He needs to keep it!! Effing sexy hair! He had me saying DAYUM!!! You are a MAN!!
  22. In the discussion about the art in the drama, I don't recall anyone pointing out ep4.. We start with a picture of the girl and boy, holding hands, surrounded by snakes. Well, hello there! Mother and Mother In Law! At the end of the episode, the snakes recede... Snakes, poor creatures that are the scapegoat for all the evil in the world... In this episode, - MIL tells the artist not to deal with CSH, and her ex sorts out the issue while telling MIL to keep off. - The lackey approaches HI to post the article. She refuses. - MIL and Mother plan to push CSH dad to merge the parties. MIL even throws in the "You can treat me as your in-law" line as bait for Mother. - Mother gives CSH the gift from MIL. Mother sends her a message from MIL when she tells CSH, "what do you think this gift means? It means she has her eyes on you and you better behave!" - The Secretary (I don't like her, sorry, not sorry) meets with KJH to warn him about playing with CSH heart and messing up her life. She also wants to return the lipstick. She has the best interests at heart, but she is the biggest cockblocker with her concern for CSH. If her suggestions had succeeded, our couple wouldn't be together! - The backstabbing employee posts the article about CSH on the intranet... - The director and MIL plan how to use the article to bring down CSH at the board meeting. - The director accosts CSH in the lobby to confront her about the man she's taking advantage of with her status. KJH, in his most epic takedown, immediately cuts thru his BS and the episode ends with CSH smiling. there are multiple snakes around the two, whose plans are taken down by the end of the episode and the snakes recede in the ending animation. Yay! Someone mentioned the use of picture frames. I wonder why they used this shot (can't remember the episode)
  23. Once again, Welcome to SKY Castle! First things first. EP10. I was tethered to the screen for the first thirty minutes! The confrontation between Lee Soo Im and the SKY Castle Overgrown Teenagers gang needs to win Confrontation of the Year award! How do you react when the whole neighbourhood has ganged up against you? Lee Soo Im could easily and rationally have shut down that Inquisition, but the writer chose to develop the scene that way so as to set up future confrontations. The truth about SJ had to come out, but why not heighten the drama and tension by exposing her to the entire neighbourhood? Her mask has been taken off in front of everyone she lords over as the Queen Bee of SKY Castle. Unmasking her in front of the two mums only wouldn't have the same impact. In that exchange, the writer also brought out arguments for and against the rationale for the gruelling methods they use in Korea, and that discussion was better heard by everyone in the neighbourhood. That was a statement from the writer to Korea. They can no longer play ignorant. SJ won the argument and the battle but will lose the war. She maintains her composure, but seeing her being ostracized by her former minions was beautiful. Her internal strength cannot hold up against this, however tough her front is, and when she broke down, I felt pity and glee in equal measure. We also got to know that the SJs husband knew of her background. That was a revelation. Here I was thinking he was in the dark about her life! They're all crazy in that house to concoct a scam like that and keep it up all these years! SJ is the all-round master manipulator but I can't even hate her!! LOL! I have to agree that she gets so much more screen time so the viewers will side with her naturally. The dynamics in the marriages played out spectacularly too. Compare the argument between Dr and SJ vs Dr Hwang and Soo Im. Isn't Dr. Hwang just the perfect husband? When she confessed to him about how she outed SJ in public, I was struck by how she could actually be open to him about a mistake she made, and how non-judgemental he was about it. And supportive of her too! When he said, "Honey, I obviously don't want to stop you if you really want to write a book about it, but I am very worried about you getting hurt.", I thought to myself that DAMN, we need to aspire to such a man in 2019! He is what they call a SAFE SPACE. The writer aptly captured that groupthink when Lee Soo Im called it "Collective Selfishness". One thing I have learned in life is that when you take a moral position, be prepared to walk alone, and be prepared to be attacked by the people closest to you. Human beings are weak. Like the gang of neighbourhood people, they will circle like cackling hyenas and attack the person who sticks their neck out, because it is easier than doing the hard work of confronting the system that created the injustice. They can externalise their frustrations and take their aggressions out on this scapegoat like Lee Soo Im in front of them. Is this what is called projection in psychology? Public opinion in many forums about this drama is decidedly anti Lee Soo Im.... says something about human nature. I love this!! Lets see how far Coach Kim and her methods fall. Coach Kim is coming off unhinged in these episodes. She's manipulative, stalking Lee Soo Im and using the knowledge she has about her past, using the family history against Ye Seo etc amongst other diabolical acts. However, I was tickled by her evil Mojo Jojo laugh when she heard about the meeting. The cinematographer also shot that scene brilliantly, as we peep in through the blinds, with her all-black frame in the window. What does she really want? Professor Cha, the master of comedic relief. In real life, I would have a problem with him gloating about the downfall of his competitor's public image, but seeing him laugh at the tribulations of SJ and hubby was the absolute highlight!! And when he compliments his wife to his sons, I was so dead!! Too funny!! I love how petty and juvenile the men in this drama are. It's such a relief from the one dimensional composed, rational, businesslike fathers of dramas we are fed. I will forgive his pettiness because of how much he loves his daughter. Seeing him yell and push the flowers in his wife's face was awesome! I must complement the people in charge of props in this drama. They need a raise! Did you see the little doll thingies in Prof.Cha's scenes? Notice how they rotate the doll in each scene... Lastly, the writer could not have made Hye Na's entry into SKY Castle a simple affair. Everything that happened in that episode was set off by the Inquisition and worked to push SJ to accept Hye Na. There had to be multiple hurdles in the episode that would force SJ to accept her on her own prerogative. That's why we saw Ye Bin need her coaching skills, Ye Seo collapse and fail because of the revelation, and Coach Kim use the knowledge to arm-twist SJ into accepting her. Coach Kim's argument that Hye Na is the pacemaker Ye Seo needs came at the right time, after everything has collapsed around her. This argument was the final piece of information that would help SJ make the decision to accept Hye Na. SJ accepting Hye Na in an act of Noblesse Oblige would have been too shallow. Lastly, I am super ecstatic about the ratings. It is truly deserved for the writer, crew and cast that have given us such an amazing story to warm our weekends.
  24. My dream kiss came true so I had to post here today....... I bookmarked this drama as soon as I heard that song Hye Kyo was in it. I admit I had an issue with PBG being cast as the male lead, not because of himself, but the relationship between the three is just too close! I have no problem with Noona Romance, if anything, noona romance is an automatic plus with me! The story is also one of those that walks the line between boring cliche and good execution of cliche, so I was mostly afraid that SHKs comeback would flop because of the script. However, I looked at the screenwriter's body of work and thought that I should give her the benefit of the doubt. The story, even though filled with the usual enemies, Mother in Law and Mother, has given a refreshing look on a cliche romantic tale. I loved how the writer used the SOME dynamics as a new trope instead of just jumping into a relationship. I don't think this has ever been done in a drama. The two characters are aware of the gap between them, the age, status, employment position, etc. KJH is a man who falls headfirst into his first love, but is so considerate of what the relationship means and how it impacts CSH, that he suggests a SOME so that she can ease into it with no pressure. He desperately wants to be her boyfriend but through the SOME, he takes it as slow as she needs it to be.... and when she took her time to think about it, looked at the art on the bridge pillars ... I could see her age in that moment as she weighs the decision, and then she accepted to be in a SOME!!! I was swooning at that part!! KJH..... this perfect specimen of a man that is mostly found in dramas... Takes charge like Mr. Darcy and leaves me swooning like a teenager right behind him! Lets discuss the most important episode, ep 8. When KJH gives CSH the camera, it's like a callback to ep7 when he says he has no photo of her. She also has no photo of him, so when she takes the photo with the camera she has been gifted, she now has a photo of him. I was grinning so hard and all up in my feelings as she teared up when she took the photo. To me, the tears looked like she was overwhelmed with her love for him in that moment, that those hot overwhelming tears just sprang out (y'all know those kinds of tears). But as some of you have mentioned upstairs, she is feeling the impending separation deeply. That scene cut me up!! I knew that KJH would come to the masquerade ball. That was so obvious! LOL! I have been anxious about the kiss scene since the drama was announced because, let me be honest, SHK is not known for her kiss scenes. Not in a world where Yoon Eun Hye exists... In addition to the dynamics of their real life relationship, I wondered how far they would go with the kiss. They kissed.... And in that moment I was so absorbed, I started yelling and excitedly dropping loud f-bombs, so my neighbours know there's a mad woman in the building. I loved the kiss. I think this is the most absorbed she has ever been in a kiss scene (correct me if I am wrong), and it was such a release of the tension I had felt about the drama. I feel at peace! On closer inspection, you can see a shaky kiss, two unsure people in the way they kiss, anxious but excited, like they're saying screw it! I'm going in. They keep their foreheads in contact as they pivot around one another and change kissing sides. KJHs gulp and the loud smack at the end of the kiss sent me over the edge! However, kiss number two must be steamier. Director! Please!! What I love most about their relationship is the underdog status of the characters esp CSH. We all feel something for the woman who was in a loveless arrangement, who has this assertive man who just wants to love her, and who gets the chance to experience love, or at least a good relationship. I am rooting so hard for them! I want them to face the world together and never give up one one another espcially since Mother In Law is about to bring out the big guns! I'm cheering them on from the finish line!! The most important thing about this "easily a cliché" drama is how uncliche their path to falling in love has been. It does not feel forced or ridiculous as a story like this would be otherwise. This relationship is also their first real relationship, the first experience of love for both. KJH only knew love from books. CSH didn't even give up on love, she couldn't even dream of it in the first place! The excitement of it, the newness of it, every experience is new to them and I am as excited as they are when they hold hands or see one another or hug. Someone here discussed whether KJH is a virgin. I dunno, but they're both virgins when it comes to love. Everything CSH is feeling is all new, I'm sure their first time together (which we may not see) is a completely new concept to them as well. Speaking of the hug... When KJH comes up to CSH, he absolutely killed me when he said, "My greed has no limit." He does not need to say anymore, I had already collapsed. (Is that what they call Hugot in the Philippines?) Most importantly, I was moved as she quietly processed his speech, especially when he said, "I want to hold you in my arms". She then put her hands on his, TURNED TO HIM and PUT HERSELF IN HIS ARMS! Even he is shocked when she lays on his shoulder, you can see it on his face that he smiles in excitement and relief, and then wraps his arms around her. Her turning is significant to me, because the director has used their feet to show the state of the relationship. Earlier, CSHs feet would move away from KJH under the table, but in this scene, even if the feet were not shown, her whole body and heart have moved to face him. She reached back and wraps her hands around him too... SWOOOONNNNNN!!! Up ahead is the usual drama... MIL and Mother work to destroy their relationship and put her back her cage.... this is a drama anyway, what would it be wthout those scenes?! Writernim has successfully given a fresh take on a cliche story since around ep 4 and I LOVE IT!! I love the head office staff as a love interest for CSHs ex-husband. She'll cause grief for his mother who will definitely be unable to control her! I can't wait!! I had planned to write this tomorrow, but I am too giddy with adrenalin!! Love makes the world go round!
  25. lol!! The end of episode 1 does that to you. I watch dramas while lying on my side, but the end of that episode had me in an upright position with my hands on my mouth and head. Hubby may want to divorce her when he discovers her part in getting rid of his first love and the lies he's lived since, but I agree, it's not the main focus. Either way, I expect the dynamics to change and bring in more conflict as the characters react to one another. Hopefully, the focus remains on the elitism of education. Do you wonder how these couples even got together? How on earth did Prof Cha get SeungHye to marry him? Or even have children? lol! JinHee probably beat down Yang Woo and dragged him to the altar. He is the "My wife is a gangster" kind of man. Thinking about their courtships amuses me to no end. I hope so!! Jennifer from Fairfax needs to be exposed! That's the problem with being an immigrant.... your country-mates who would otherwise not know you if you were back in your country now know all your dirt in the foreign country! Do you think the children will rebel if and when the reason for the break up of YoungJae's family comes to light? The twins may become braver in facing their father and his methods... Despite the mess that was the last two episodes of MISTY, I will still watch anything by that writer. There have been some outstanding dramas this year, but we are living in a post-My Ahjussi world now... The bar is too high!
