  1. @nubianlegalmind You're right that Ye Suh's mom had way too many chances that she missed. But the show does a good job of justifying it as being realistic. Each time, Ye Suh's mom told herself that this is temporary only, that the Coach is all but a tool to be discarded after, that it's just one more time the end goal is near, etc. It's really how things spiral down for many people, in many situations, the denial can only get stronger because, what else would her previous "sacrifices" be, and the more she's in it, the more she would feel she would "give up" even more.
  2. While the story about Coach Kim is very interesting, I fear it's taking away a little bit from the main message. Coach Kim is a highly special case, few people would have access to someone like her. Her personal situation and "solution" to it are both, let's say, quite unique. But the problems related to educational pressure is definitely widespread especially in Korea, even with no Coach Kim. YoungJae's dad isn't wrong to say that most people will read these stories and blame the parents. It's not a wrong thing to do. The parents are the ones who are the closest to the child and have the most power over them. Even if Coach Kim is bad, it's the parents who entrust the children to her, signing everything off to her in exchange for _their_ wish of putting their children into top universities. The story should be about the parents. Though it doesn't mean still that other parents reading the story will realize their mistakes. People like to blame others and not themselves. Some may reflect upon themselves, but others, like Yesuh's mother, would just say, our family doesn't have the same problem as YoungJae's and my child is different from their child.
  3. Seri's mother seems to know more about her than the father. She never seemed as excited about Seri as the father, and at times had some concerned look. Seri has been staying with her mother's sister in the US, so they probably know more about her, though they too were fooled by her.
  4. It's only episode 12 and they are already revealing the secret behind Coach Kim. Isn't that too fast for a 20-episode show? Seri too, the last character being introduced, and yet the secret is out. What will they do for the next 8 episodes to keep viewers?
  5. It's not possible. Kay was shown to be a little girl being treated in a hospital in the US with brain damage, and the Coach, who is her mother, was shown as being in denial that she had a child when hearing the news. Yeon Du was a high school student when she died. Yeon Du is dead and Kay is still being kept in a different house by the Coach. It would be too convenient for the Coach to actually know Yeon Du. Given how cynical she is, your husband is probably right that the connection is just made up. But in any case it doesn't matter too much, she's still manipulating Soo Im's feelings from private personal information about Soo Im that she obtained.
  6. Sharp eyes! I rewatched that scene wher when the woman confronted "Jennifer" and asked after Kai and it's indeed the same lady. She doesn't seem to know Yesuh's mom in that scene. She did ask the grandmother to introduce her to the daughter in law so she'll make the connection then and help expose Jennifer's past. And Kai seemed really young when the accident happened so I doubt it was directly because of over studying. The image of the young child in a white dress was clearly of a normal happy little child.
  7. In the flashback, her daughter suffered some head trauma and was predicted to not be able to lead a normal life even if she would wake up. Kai is probably that daughter. We know it wasn't because of overstudying. The flashback also showed her saying "this is not my daughter" or something like that as she was told the news---she couldn't handle the fact that her daughter would not be able to live a normal life, and we see that in the present she couldn't bring herself to seeing her daughter and only asked her subordinate to pass the crayons for her.
