Synopsis:

Abandoned by the world, Soo-young (Bae Soo-bin) is penniless and has no one to depend on. One day, he saves Ratima (Park Ji-su) from danger and for the first time in his life he wants to protect someone other than himself. Ratima had joined her husband in Korea from Thailand, but she soon became a victim of domestic violence. She finds herself attracted to Soo-young’s kindness and follows him to Seoul. But the happiness doesn’t last long as Soo-young gets worn out from the harsh reality and meets a girl full of charm, Young-jin (So Yoo-jin). She makes every effort to win his heart and he starts wavering.

So Yoo Jin tweets quite regularly, and this is a photo of her with YJT on the film set.  She mentioned in her me2day account that today is a cold day and they will be filming the whole day (Sunday). Let's keep our fingers crossed for a photo or two later

Bae Soo-bin cast as Yoo Ji-tae’s leading man

...in Yoo Ji-tae’s directorial feature, that is. As previously announced, Yoo is following his recent wedding to actress Kim Hyo-jin by diving back to work, now that his debut directorial feature has secured funding. He’s now locked Bae Soo-bin (49 Days, Dong Yi) in as the film’s leading man.

The project’s title has been tweaked to A Boy Dreams of Sansevieria; sansevieria is the name of a plant that colloquially goes by the names devil’s tongue, snake plant, and mother-in-law’s tongue. The story is a coming-of-age story about a young man who runs away from home and ends up traveling with a Filipina woman.

Bae Soo-bin plays the young man… and I hope there’s something else to that story, because as baby-faced as he is, he also totally looks his age (34). Not at all the kind of youth who’d be running away from home and coming of age. But Yoo Ji-tae has established a thoughtful, introspective directorial style with his previous four shorts, so I’m sure he knows what he’s about.

A Boy Dreams of Sansevieria will begin shooting in January.

Hope YJT had a great birthday on 13 April - he turned 36.  The distributor Lotte Entertainment announced the same day that the movie will now be released in the second half of this year:

Yoo Ji Tae Set to Enter his Short Film in Film Festivals

Yoo Ji Tae, actor and film-maker, is set to debut his latest project at film festivals. The short film, “A Boy Dreams of Sansevieria,” will be debuting this fall at the Busan International Film Festival. He also is planning to enter his short film in other film festivals.

“Sansevieria” is the name of a plant that commonly goes by the names of devil’s tongue and mother-in-law’s tongue. The film is a coming-of-age story about a young man who runs away from home and ends up traveling with a Filipino woman.

The film was initially set to be entered into the Cannes International Film Festival in May of this year, but because of post-production delays, the short film entry will be postponed to the latter half of the year.

Production on the set of the short film recently wrapped up. The cast includes actor Bae Soo Bin and So Yoo Jin as the main characters. This is not the actor-director’s first foray into film making as he has directed “How Does the Blind Dream?” in 2005, as well as, “Invitation,” in 2009.

Lotte Entertainment, the distributions investor, is supporting Yoo Ji Tae’s aspirations to enter the short film into film festivals.

As soon as post-production wraps up, the actor-director is set to star in an upcoming film.

Article about Yoo Ji Tae -  if I understand  Google Translate correctly, YJT and his wife Kim Hyo Jin will walk the BIFF red carpet.  Look forward to seeing them on the red carpet.

One of many articles today about "My Ratima"  tickets at BIFF selling out really fast, in 30 seconds...  an indication of the interest in, and high expectations for this movie.

In an interview, BSB said that YJT was the most meticulous director he had ever met. I have a feeling YJT's first feature movie will reflect this care and attention to detail.  Here's hoping that the movie meets critical and audience expectations.  "Mai Ratima" fighting!
