Story : A series of murder occurred during the reign of King Sejong. He was originally born into a nobleman family until an incident demoted his family to the slave class and his father was killed because it. But through determination and investigation skills, he managed to become the first investigation officer from the slave class. While throwing aside his hatred and prejudice towards Se Jong who has caused his family tragedy, he finds himself entangled in a massive conspiracy behind the serial killings when he was personally entrusted with the cases by his enemy, King Se Jong who promised to reinstate his family status if he solves the murder cases.

He is puzzled about the murders that occurred when he was about to announce his invention/creation of the Korean words that will only belong to his country. Upon calling forward Kang Chae Yun to investigate the cases, he finds out that it maybe something much worse than what he can imagine or thought of and why does his trusted court lady, So Yi seems to hold the key to the mysterious murders?

She is one of the court ladies in King Se Jong's court. Although she is smart and pretty, she has lost her speech and part of her memory after she went though a shock trauma when she witnessed a horrible accident when she was young. But though helping King Se Jong with his creation of the korean Alphabets, she gradually learn to speak again.

Jang Hyuk Confirmed as Lead for Upcoming SBS Sageuk Tree With Deep Roots

2011 has been a disappointment for me in terms of sageuks. 2010 had Chuno, which despite my torn feelings about it ultimately was a creative step forward for the genre, and Joseon X-Files, which was a brilliant masterpiece. None of the sageuks this year have enthralled me, but this might change come September 2011.

Jang Hyuk has finally been confirmed (after much speculation and early news reports) as the lead for the upcoming 24-episode sageuk Tree with Deep Roots (Deeply Rooted Tree). He will play a former slave turned court official investigating a series of murders in Gyeongbokgong (Gyeongbok Palace) during the reign of King Sejong. Playing the Great King himself will be Han Suk Kyu, a veteran actor who has been out of the limelight for quite some time.

The drama will be based on the novel of the same name, penned by popular author Lee Jung Myung, who also wrote the novel which became the drama Painter of the Wind. PotW become a mess in the second half due to internal production squabbling, but the first half was as mesmerizing and glorious a sageuk as I have ever watched. Tree with Deep Roots, which will air on SBS, will reunite the two screenwriters who penned the highly successful Queen Seon Deok (as well as Dae Jang Geum and Seodongyeo).

I'm really excited for this drama, but it seems like it'll be a long time before it's out haha. I'm a big fan of Jang Hyuk since Chuno and Shin Se Kyung is really hot so this is my most anticipated drama for the rest of the year.

I've been waiting for this Sageuk drama because of the writers.

Same here and this is based on Lee Jung-myung's book right?. If I'm not mistaken he also wrote the novel "The painter of the Wind". I have high expectations for this drama and hope it'll do well.

The second trailer looked amazing. I hope there are some great fights in this drama.
