Anybody mod their cars?

What were some of the first mods you made to your car when you got it? I have a friend who is just getting into the car scene and is starting to look for a car to modify. Thought that was a pretty good question. :)

I just put a sticker on mine.

Nothing screams "speed" than a bumper sticker with Mattel's "Hot Wheels" logo on it slapped onto the rear bumper of your Ford Escort.

Later on I stuck those "flames" on the sides of the car and added the Playboy brand mud flaps as well.

Nope I haven't done any mods but that's mainly because there isn't much *cost effective* aftermarket potential for the mazdaspeed 6. If I had a Forester XT or a WRX I would bolt on a VF34

I would love to see a picture of it. :D Sometimes the more hideous it is, the harder it is to take your eyes off of it. xD

I've got some light modifications. My rear anti-sway is my favorite mod, followed by lowered suspension. Bolt-on engine mods; intake and exhaust, and now thinking about a header and some other fun mods now that I'm nearing purchase of a second car.

Haha, unfortunately that was my first car. Sold it a long time ago to this hispanic fellow. The last I saw of it, he had turned it into a lowrider and stuck all that hydraulics crap on it.

some of the first mods people do are really easy bolt on stuff:

intake, header, exhaust, audio, sway bars,  rims, tires...

but your very first mods should be to slap a vtec sticker on your car.  adds like 1000 hp i hear.

honestly though, performance mods for cheap cars are a waste of money.  is spending $250 for 3 hp worth it?

if you want a fast car, buy a fast car.  the only thing i'll ever do to cars now is audio and tints.

on my last car i had intake, header, exhaust, A/F controller, short shifter, rims/tires, audio upgrades.

fun to drive but i got tired of the car being so loud.  you'll eventually grow out of it.

Do maintenance before modifications, replace parts that need to be replaced w/ mods (i.e. leaking exhaust, worn/gone shocks, worn brake pads for nice pads, etc. etc.)

My first mods were... an exhaust system and a cold air intake, new spark plugs and wires, and new tires (Miata). On the STi, it was just maintenance and a legit tune.

It really depends on which direction he's taking the car. Is it a show car? a street car? all out track car?

First mods should be tires, unless the car came with some nice stickies. Exhausts tend to free up some hp, along with intakes to help the car breathe easier.

Ive done a few stuff but its been mostly performance mods, only looks mod ive done is tinted windows. I plan on adding more stuff later on, but Ive been tossing up the idea of trading it for a big sedan (Lexus LS), so Ive kind of stopped until I decide what I want to do. If i do plan on going Ill probably get a stillen lip kit, eibach springs, probably some 18" or 19" wheels, switch out the current exhuast with a Nismo one, I dont plan on getting to crazy with it.

I don't really mod my cars. I think the smart mods to do would be tinting the windows and changing to yellow foglights. I wouldn't do anything else.
