[Trans: Mega] Bae Yongjoon, as a Real Person, Seen for 120 Days

An interview with the owner of a dining car

Source: Japanese magazine, <Woman Herself >(2005. 7.26)

Translated into Korean: anemone

Translated into English: soil

***** In Korea shooting a film often continues till late night

or even until the dawn. So, it is a very important mission

to take a good care of the people related with shooting

and to have them keep fit under harsh conditions.

Here is the couple who has been running a dining car.

They had worked for the location team of <April Snow>,

and now they reveal the behind-the-scenes story !!! ~soil

"Yes, Yongjoon-ssi is the man with a good appetite.

He is not choosy about food. Generally he seems to love fish.

He loves various kinds of ordinary side dishes, but

particularly dried anchovy boiled with soy sauce and

glutinous starch syrup."

said Mr. and Mrs. Song, who were in charge of cooking

meals for actors including Bae Yongjoo and all of the staff.

The couple runs a dining car, having accompanied the shooting team

of <April Snow> for 120 days from February to June

both in Samcheok and in Seoul and helping the team to keep fit.

"Bae Yongjoon-ssi has been concerned about his healthcare.

The only thing that people around him asked us to be careful about

was cooking food with less salt.

And he seems to keep light eating in mind.

Well, sometimes he ordered salad or fruit,

which seemed to be related to his diet, his body project. "

The dining car, the pride of the couple, is a one-ton truck

that was renovated so that it could have a cooking facility.

It is also ready to become a dining space with 15 tables

to accommodate up to 80 persons at once,

which takes about 20minutes of preparation.

Bae Yongjoon also had his meals there.

"Sometimes, Japanese fans came here to eat

what Bae Yongjoon eats

and they asked us to take a photo with them."

The couple smiles, saying they picked up several Japanese words then.

Actually this is the first dining car, in Korea, exclusively for location sites.

They said that they had troubles in their business,

then one of their acquaintances who knew well about movie industry

told them the existence of dining cars abroad

and suggested them to run it.

The couple went on an excursion to a cafeteria of a shooting place,

and on their way back home his wife, who has a relative that has

an experience of running a restaurant, blurted, "Let's do it".

Mr. Song said," I still don't know

how, why I decided to jump in this business,

at the very moment I heard my wife¡¯s words.

I guess that I was somewhat overpowered

by my wife's confident spirit."

He threw us a peaceful smile, and his wife also smiled.

They had accompanied most of the locations of <April Snow>.

The day before a shooting day they went to the place in advance

and visited the local market to investigate the materials

to set the menu for the next day.

They tried to cook with local specialties.

At Samcheok which is located in the sea side,

they provided the shooting team with fish every day,

and received favorable comments from all of them

including Bae Yongjoon.

Mr. Song said,

"We prepared a meal three times a day,

breakfast, lunch and supper,

and sometimes four times, including night snacks.

Generally we cooked a meal for 100-150 persons at once

which consisted of 7-8 side dishes, soup and rice.

Sometimes the location site would change here and there

and we should follow the team without having time to do the dishes.

Well, it was the most embarrassing time

when we had to do the dishes

and prepare the next meal at the same time."

He continued to say that his motto is to serve the meal

that's just been cooked.

In Korea, the most important thing is to serve meals fresh,

right after the moment it's been cooked.

Therefore, timing is everything in order to serve food in the best.

But, needless to say, it is unpredictable what happens in shooting sites.

When director Hur said , ¡"let's have our meal after finishing this scene."

they had no clue when it would be, either 10 minutes later

or 1 hour later. They didn't want to set the table with cold dishes,

and.

Bae YongJoon seemed to know

the couples passion and devotion to food, too.

After the shooting was over, Bae Yongjoon prepared

MP3s, PSPs (portable game machine), or digital cameras

for all the members of the staff, saying

he wanted to give them something as a souvenior,

because all of them had a hard time together for the same purpose.

Mr. Song said,

"When Yongjoon-ssi handed out a present to each of the staff,

he didn¡¯t forget to give it even to us, and I felt really grateful

for his considerate heart."

He continued to say

"For your reference, the numbers of the staff members were 80.

Accordingly the present would have cost about 24 million won.

(approx. 2.6 million yen).

Yongjoon-ssi who is known for taking special care of his Family,

gave presents to the people around him in a big way, too."

I asked them about the behind-the-scenes story,

And they answered,

"It was really pleasing for us to play with all the members of the staff.

When there was no shooting, we enjoyed spending time together,

playing baseball or survival game. It was really interesting.

But Yongjoon-ssi is the man who always draws all attention.

He seemed to consider other staff members' position

and restrain himself from having a chance to play together.

He tried to be low-key, and seemed to keep from going out.

You know, some wild fans came to the shooting sites

to collect even the cigarette butts

that he had thrown away, while he took a rest."

The couple said that they were sorry

as they saw lonesome Yongjoon.

"But, while there were few fan hm... in the deep night,

he would spend time with them, playing a practical joke.

When a member of the staff played with an air gun.

he said to him, 'Let me be in, and make a bet on who wins'

and had a pleasant time to play together with him.

When we saw him at the scene,

we thought he might want to play with others happily."

As for Son Yejin who co-starred, he said, she is a quiet woman.

"She is polite and always smiles.

She eats well and is a very sound and healthy girl."

And he also added,

"Both Bae Yongjoon and Son Yejin seemed to have prepared around

10 posters of themselves for presents.

When we asked them to give us a poster,

each of them gave us one with their signature written on."

In fact, the couple also appeared in the film as extras.

"We were in the scene

when Yongjoon-ssi was talking with Yejin-ssi in front of the Motel.

There was another couple who could not enter the motel

because of Bae Yongjoon and Son Yejin,

and we acted that couple.

We are anticipating whether we could appear

in the movie without being cut."

The release of the movie is supposed to be on September.

When I asked them about his schedule, they said

"Till early September, he is likely to join

the promotion activity for <April Snow> in several Asian regions.

And the shooting of <Great King and Four Gods> is scheduled to start

on the end of October. And between he is likely to start

another body project in order to fit in with a Great King Gwanggaeto

who is shooting an arrow on a horse."

And one member of the staff said

"After finishing the filming, he had broken down with overwork,

and I think that he's taking a rest now."

I visited the health club where he belongs to

then asked them about him,

and they answered, "Lately he never came."

He seems to have been leisurely enjoying some days off.

(Old Article)IMX Sohn: BYJ, Up Close & Personal

Original in: Shukan Josei / Japan (17/24 August 2004 issue)

Translated into English: Ruru [slight Edition by happiebb]

reposted in Quilt Freeboard by happiebb

“Up-close & Personal Look at Bae Yong Joon” by Mr. Sohn Il-Hyeon (33) of IMX.

Revealed for the first time by a person who is affectionately called “Hyeong” by BYJ

Yon-sama was in Japan again for a CF shooting.

His activity in Japan has gotten into full swing thanks greatly to IMX.

What will Mr. Sohn tell us about the untold story of BYJ’s visit to Japan,

the Korean Current boom, and the future outlook of his activity?

“I think this is a critical moment.

I’m bewildered by the current boom of the Korean Current,

which is developing in a steep uprise.

If we are carried away by this trend,

we will end up in nothing meaningful with a question

‘What was that all about?’”

Mr. Sohn Il Hyeong (33), the president of IMX, started off

by giving a strict and level-headed analysis to the ongoing Korean Current boom.

IMX was among the first in Japan to offer the access to Korean dramas online.

The company has indeed “created the fad of Korean Current.”

Fans of BYJ may be familiar with IMX through the BYJ’s Japanese official website

which the company administers.

BYJ’s visit to Japan and the undertaking of the exclusive management agency

for BYJ in Japan have been realized because of Mr. Sohn.

He could enjoy the boom in triumph.

Yet, the young president smiled bashfully and said,

“People who have triggered the Korean Current boom in Japan are not us.

I think it was sparked off by NHK.”

Bending forward, he groped for words and talked haltingly in a low voice.

Yong-sama calls the president Sohn affectionately “Hyeong.”

“Hyeong” is a Korean word meaning a boy’s elder brother.

“In Korea, we call elder boys ‘Hyeong’ even if they are not your blood brothers.’

Because he is two years younger than I am, he calls me in that way.

Probably, he thinks we are on more familiar terms with each other

than actually being considered as business associates.”

Mr. Song was a senior of Yong-sama at Sungkyunkwan University.

However, they had never met at the university

and Yon-sama is now taking a temporary leave form the university.

Mr. Sohn took two-year off from school in 1991 to do his military service.

After the two-year service, he came to Japan

and majored in literature at Waseda University.

After graduating from Waseda,

he joined an event-organizing company in Yokohama.

He had also worked for the branch office of NHK in Seoul

before he established IMX in 2001.

He first met Yon-sama in 2003.

“We broadcasted ‘Hotelier’ featuring BYJ on the net in Japan

and received overwhelming response.

I thought I could expand the business more, so I acquired the broadcasting right.

I flew to Seoul in June 2003 to talk about the promotion of Hotelier

and discussed the plan of BYJ’s visit to Japan in details with the manger of BYJ.

I met Bae Yong Joon after I saw the manager three or four times for negotiations.”

”At the instant of meeting with him, I was convinced of his potential.

First of all, he had an aura.

Besides that, he had something that really attracts people,

such as the way he talks, his voice and his eyes.”

Later, especially after the mega hit of “Winter Sonata,”

the relationship between those two men has gotten much closer.

“His attractiveness is not limited to the fact that he is cool.

His character gives a very decent impression.

He does not market himself through such activities as variety shows and events.

Such attitudes overlap with the images he has shown in his dramas.”

“While he is an earnest person who has his own belief,

he is an intellectual and tender guy.

He doesn’t let down people by breaking the image of a prince

that often appeared in old girls’ comics.

As a matter of fact, he is a very stoic person,

which I noticed when I was with him.”

“He has been on a program to loose his weight.

He does workout more than 5 hours a day.

He eats chicken breast, vegetables and small amount of rice

and drinks mineral water.

He stays away from salt and spices as much as possible.

It looks very bad for health.

But, in any case, I believe that the program has factored in the nutritional balance.

He’s been on the program for about three weeks. It looks painful even to me.”

During shooting the CFs for Lotte and Sony in Japan last month,

his uncompromising attitude stood out.

He practiced a phase more than 100 times.

Even when the director gave him OK,

he asked for another try if he didn’t like his acting after checking it on the monitor.

“So, the shooting lasted till three or four o’clock in the morning.

People like me would think that you do not need to go that far,”

said Mr. Sohn with a wry smile.

“Are these really my fans?”

Yon-sama is a stoic perfectionist when it comes to work.

But, his feelings for his fans are surprisingly warmhearted.

“When we had a fan meeting for “Hotelier” at the Sheraton Hotel in Seoul,

he offered an unscheduled occasion for shaking fans hands.”

“I told him, ‘Please don’t do that’,

because there were as many as 900 fans participating in the fan meeting.

He said, ‘If I were an artist, I could sing a song for them.

Because I have nothing to do except shaking hands of them,

I would like to do that at least for the people who have come all the way here.’”

“To shake fans hands, he offered his both hands, not one hand.

While he was holding the hand of fans with his both hands,

he looked into their eyes and said a few words.

So, it took about 2.5 to 3 hours to finish the session.”

“That is the extraordinary aspect of him.

I believe that his fans truly understand that real Bae Yong Joon

is much more attractive than the drama characters that they enjoy.

But, he wasn’t as calm as he is now in the past.

Although I’ve had only a few occasions to hear the stories when he was younger,

I heard he did sometimes get into fights.”

“It seems that he doesn’t want to talk about this in details,

but he once secluded himself in a temple.

When he was traveling across the country,

he helped a store in an open-air market in exchange of meals.”

As a matter of fact,

it was beyond the imagination of Yon-sama himself

that his popularity was exploding in Japan.

“He was deeply moved to see many fans who had come to Tokyo saying,

‘I feel a lump in my throat.’

He had heard about his popularity in Japan by word of mouth and newspapers.

But, he had though, “Is it true that I have fans in Japan?’

He had though that entering into the Japanese market would be most difficult.

Because the Japanese people do not know about Korea so much,

we decided to put Japan at the last destination of the Asian tour.”

“Bae Yong Joon decided to go to Japan two weeks before the visit.

Furthermore, he developed a high fever three days before the visit,

and therefore we though it would be difficult for him to visit Japan this time.

I told him, ‘It’s OK if you cannot make it.’

But, when he himself experienced first-hand the fans' fervor in Tokyo,

he was very much surprised saying,

‘I never though it could be to this degree.’”

The confusion caused by his first visit to Japan is still fresh in people’s memory.

His fans came in droves to Hotel New Otani where he stayed.

“There was a spillover crowd around Shibuya Kokaido, the venue of the fan meeting.

BYJ said, ‘I want to get off the car to meet fans who're unable to join the fan meeting.’

But, I stopped him. I felt very sorry,

but if the fans started to chase him, it could have posed a danger.

And, as I got a telling-off from the authority every day, I asked him not to do that.

I feel very sorry for his fans.”

“I do not do business with my friends”

The young president in a white suit hunched up and looked embarrassed.

We can assume that Yon-sama put his confidence in Mr. Sohn

because he liked such an aspect of Mr. Sohn's personality.

“I talk about a vague vision with him, but not about his work in details.

He often says, ‘I do not do business with my friends.’

I want leave him to do what he likes

and I don’t want to sell him forcedly, relying only on “Yon-sama”.

Well, if the boom is to end in a short term,

it may be better to make money anyhow and everyhow.

In the short run, accepting many offers to appear on TV programs is lucrative.

There are great many offers of CFs too.

But, I myself don’t take that approach.

I see the business in a different stance and on a different span.”

The reporter came to somehow understand

why Yon-sama affectionately calls Mr. Sohn “Hyeong.”

In June this year, Yon-sama visited Las Vegas with the staff members of IMX.

“We at IMX had talked about going to Las Vegas if ‘Hotelier’ became a hit.

When I told him about the plan,

he said, ‘I want the schedule of my stay in LA adjusted

so that I can join them in Vegas.”

The staff members were surprised that he joined them at the dinner every night.

He calls his fans family. He treats his staff like his brothers.

As a matter of fact, a manager lives in his home in Seoul.

There are four rooms and the manager uses one of them.

When I am in Seoul, he offers to stay with him saying,

‘You can save money on accommodation.’

I don’t stay there because I do not want to trouble or bother him. (Laughs).

But, when I visit his place at night, he invites me to a tea room.”

The tea room is decorated with the furniture used in “Untold Scandal.”

He bought them after they completed the shooting for the movie,

and created the atmosphere of the Lee Dynasty in the tea room.

“He is fond of tea.

He entertains me with various kinds of tea from such countries as China and Japan,

most of the tea sessions take about two hours.

He usually wears sweatshirts and sweatpants.

BYJ in such casual wear serves us by getting hot water or clearing away tea cups.

He doesn’t drink so much. So, tea is a way of releasing the stress for him.”

The two good guys do business in congenial sprits.

The relationship between Yon-sama and Mr. Sohn is cool.

“Asia has great possibilities to bring about talented people of various types.

We are determined to discover new talents and excellent contents

to continue our cultural exchange business.”

Mr. Sohn met his wife who is from Thailand when he was a student.

She is now studying in the U.S. where Yon-sama is also doing his study.

Mr. Sohn, who has an intention to set up a branch office in Shanghai,

is turning his eyes to the world.

Yoo hoo~!!! Back from April Snow~!! *tsk tsk* Just let me briefly describe my April Snow day as each may differ!

Only managed to knock off from work at 6pm (show started at 7pm), me and my friend had to rush a good 60 mins journey (inclusive waiting for transport, walking in heels, withdrawing money, collecting tickets, buy some food to nibble, collect goodie bags) and manz.. it was a mad rush~!! Thoughtful Tiffany sent me an SMS while I was on the way but sadly I didnt get to meet them before the show as I was later than them!

CIMG5078a.jpg

CIMG5079.jpg

CIMG5080.jpgCIMG5083.jpg

Anyways, managed to collect the tickets and goodie bag in time in a booth (as seen in above pics)~! Goodie bag consist of a double-sided poster of AS, AS folder and some sponsered stuffs like a packet of tissue, Nivea moisturizer and a breast cancer ribbon pin (as part of the money for the movie that day will be donated to the foundation) in a nice Sony handcam paper bag! (probably will take some pics of them later!)

There are so many ppl~! Even local celebrities! But because there was another movie's premiere tonight, I dunno they came to attend which one, but there was a huge April Snow poster outside, so I presume they went to the April Snow's premiere in another room. After me and my friend took our seats and settled ourselves down comfortably, suddenly the person sitting beside me turned and asked if anyone I know visit Soompi frequently and I told her I do and suddenly she kept laughing and immediately, I know she is Yon.. haha! I remembered she told me that she will be sitting VERY near me but little do I know, it would be sooooo near!!! Kekeke!!! Got to know her friend also! So fun~!!

Okie, the movie, shan't reveal too much, but it is a thousand thumbs up~!!! Seriously, the whole cinema almost flooded with drools all over.. hahah~!! The moment our dear Yong Joon's face appeared on the BIG screen, many clapped!! I think it came from Tiffany and Happiebb gang! Many others were giggling including me, especially the intimate parts~! To summarise.. I feel the whole movie is very tastefully made and u can really feel the pain of the characters~! And I agree that you will have to watch a few times to be able to get totally absorbed into the show~! I'm more into wanting to know the story and ending today. I think I'll be more into emotions next Sat when I will be catching it again~!! I wonder how many times will I want to watch.. hehe!

After the show, Yon intro-ed me to Tiffany and BB who were sitting quite a few seats above us. Finally I get to meet them.. hehe! Sorry Yon, Tiffany and BB.. didn't had a proper introduction and had to rush off coz my friend needs the loo badly.. hehe! It was really nice meeting u guys and hope we can meet again next Sat~!! I heaved a sigh of relief after watching the movie because after so many months of waiting and agonising what the ending will be.. I finally got the answers today~

Liezle.. me and Yon mentioned about u and Frances also, about how sad Soompi had lost all your precious posts which u guys contributed so much~!!

What do I think about the neg reviews? Hmm.. honestly speaking I didn't read too much into the reviews posted anywhere. I wouldn't want to be affected by it before I watch it with my own eyes. But I will have to say, this movie is not for everyone definitely. U really have to immerse yourself into the director's point of view and what kind of movie he wants to portray before u can really enjoy the show, else, it will just be a slow and plain movie with the ending which ppl will go.. "Huh?" That's why I said, you will have to watch a few times to totally feel and understand that point of view. Okie, I did go "huh" at the end of the movie honestly.. haha! And Yon reminded me that we will have to catch it again to be able to get it... *ding dong ding dong* and yep, I agreed with her.

I don't really blame them for the negative reviews, everyone's entitled to their own opinions. I just wish they don't bashed and criticised with unfair judgement.. get what I mean?

Yep, can't wait for their reviews too~! :D

Chili you are back! I'm smiling ear to ear while reading your post. Yon was so funny when she used the password to you :lol::lol:

Haha.. BB, yesss it was that loud~!! Me and Yon were actually giggling away~

Haha.. yeah I messaged Tiffany that I felt so sorry for not staying a while more.. and she told me that they were hanging around at BK while u had left.

If I'm not mistaken, u wore white and left Cineleisure pretty late right? Together with 2 gals.. hehe~

Yep.. I'll be there next Sat~!! Hope to see ya again~!! :P

yup, was in white today... and hee.... my two frenz and i were having dinner at cineleisure after the movie, then popped over to heeren NYDC for a cuppa before heading home... didn't join tiff and company coz my frenz are non-bae-fans and didn't want to 'bore' them with our giggling and rambling and stuff... B)

yup, my frenz are non-bae-fans but haha, they're considerably 'knowledgable' about bae-facts, thanks to yours truly... anyhow, am glad to share that my frenz enjoyed the movie too and would be watching it a second time soon.

it's a quiet movie, but the pace's not unbearably slow and they thought the acting was natural and believable. they also thought yong joon had a real fantastic body... also said son yejin acted really well, and yes yes, she's got a great figure [wisey, are you listening to this?] actually, one of them commented though both were good, but she thought son yejin's acting was even better than yong joon's

see you next sat! ;)

thanks for the warm welcome. sorry for being so silent before. i check out a lot of threads so i drift in and out of each one and i don't stay long enough for a decent conversation. today i figured, everyone's starting over so why not start showing myself and making more of an effort to be more friendly? it's the least i could do for everyone who's been so generous with pictures, articles, interviews, videos, etc.

having had no internet connection for the past two weeks, i've been out of touch with what's been happening here. any confirmation as to when April Snow will be shown in Manila?

[Trans] A report of BYJ's 3d Millate autographing session

on May 4, 2002

Hi, overseas friends^^ How are you getting along?

Now I'd like to introduce an old report of BYJ's 3rd Millate autographing session written by a fan of GOD, a Korean Idol group.

The event, held on May 4th, 2002, is famous as a 6-hour-long marathon session.

The session, originally scheduled for one and a half hours from 3:00 to 4:30pm, started from 12:00pm and prolonged to 6:00pm,

for BYJ felt so sorry for his fans who had attended the 1st and 2nd Millate autographing sessions only to return home without getting his autographs

despite their long waiting.

I hope you can enjoy this translation^^

Have a joyful weekend!

Today, I attended Bae Yongjoon's autographing session quite unexpectedly.

A certain construction company for which he promotes provided the event in the model house of its apartments.

It was supposed to be held for one and a half hours, and, to my surprise, in my neighborhood Ilsan.

My elder sister-in-law is a BYJ fan.

From early in the morning she had been pestering me still in a near-coma from yesterday's fatigue.

After all, we arrived at the autographing site at 2:20pm,

40 minutes earlier than the session would start.

Frankly, I hadn't expected such a big crowd!

I had thought there would be no more than 100 persons,

wondering why the session would last as long as one and a half hours.

On arriving there at 2:20pm, I couldn't believe my eyes.

The queue was endless, more than 100 meters long.

(Sure, it cannot be compared with our stars' concerts or autographing sessions.)

Moreover, people in the queue were various in their age.

Some were of my age, and some others were much older than me.

There were also mothers with their children.

Their enthusiasm for their idol was no less than that of GOD fans.

Anyway feeling awkward, we stepped into the backward queue and waited.

At 3:00pm... BYJ arrived.

However, the queue remained as it had been.

There was some stir among the crowd, but that's all.

Perhaps due to their matureness,

the line didn't break down, nor did people move around to see BYJ.

They were keeping their places, waiting for the session to begin.

30 minutes had passed... Still no sign of the queue reducing.

We, waiting in the backward line, wondered what's happening at all.

If it were GOD's autographing session,

the event would already have ended in such duration of time.

Apparently, there were no more than 300 persons in front of me.

Thus, my sister-in-law sneaked into the model house to know the situation,

and returned completing her mission.

According to her, BYJ was not signing, but writing a novel.

I asked, "What does that mean???"

He looked his fan into her eyes, asking her name,

writing whatever message she wanted on the autographing paper,

asking what the gift was if she happened to give one to him, thanking her, and shaking hands..

He even signed as many papers as his fan's request, whether it's 2 or 7.

And he handed over the gift to the manager beside him.

It was BYJ HIMSELF who handed over the gift.

That's why it took 5 minutes for a fan to get his autograph.

I judged we could not get his autograph,

for the session was to last only one and a half hours.

Then it was 4:30pm, and the queue reduced into half.

They closed the main entrance of the model house as supposed.

I fell into a temper, feeling mortified with fruitless waiting.

(I was really mortified...he is not my darling Hoyoung...

waiting for almost 2 hours despite the chilly weather and my slight cold.)

So I pulled my sister-in-law by the arm, and asked her to go home.

We went to the parking lot... There was BYJ's car, too.

There formed already a big gathering of people.

My sister-in-law stationed herself there again,

saying she should see BYJ in order to compensate the long fruitless waiting outside the model

house.

We waited some time at the parking lot, but still no sign of BYJ...

Then an announcement said BYJ prolonged the autographing session for 30 minutes....

He could not send his fans waiting outside in the cold weather, empty-handed.

Accordingly, the session prolonged to 5:00pm.

It was past 5 o'clock, but people were still waiting in a queue.

There was another announcement: BYJ prolonged 30 minutes one more time.

To my judgment, BYJ would hold the session until all the remaining fans got his autographs.

My physical condition was so bad that I had to return home right away.

However, this experience made me think of various things.

Is BYJ an unpopular TV actor?

No, BYJ is the very actor who beat the super-popular drama 'Yoein-cheonha' easily

after the airing of 2 or 3 episodes of WLS.

He is one of the best Korean stars.

As the word says, BYJ is a 'star', what's more, a 'top star'.

He held the autographing session for more than 2 and a half hours,

which had been scheduled for 1 and a half hours.

The extension was made of his own will.

Fans' gifts did BYJ treasure.

While waiting in the parking lot, I witnessed his manager transferring fans' gifts to the car.

All the managers I had seen until then were XX, 00, and ##

(translator's note: GOD's managers).

I thought managers are the same tribe.

I was next to BYJ's car. However, seeing the manger coming,

I hurried away from the spot habitually.

Yes, I screened myself out of his sight not to be called names...

To my utter surprise, his manager, with a smile all over the face, said to the gathered,

"Excuse me, I have to open the trunk. Would you please step aside for a minute?"

Then, he put the gifts into the trunk... not roughly, but carefully and meticulously,

arranging them one by one.

Everyone could see he was handling them as if they were precious treasures.

What's more, he was all smiles doing that.

Was it because his boss is a star who has less popularity and fewer gifts than GOD?

People at the parking lot were not fewer than GOD fans.

The gifts from his fans were not fewer than those for GOD.

It was their attitudes toward fans that were basically different!

Of course, photo and video shooting was prohibited for today's event.

The first fan at the autographing session presented him with 5 books.

BYJ: What is this?

Fan: They are 5 books.

BYJ: What's the title?

She told him all the titles.

BYJ, thanking her for the gift, started to sign.

Then, she took a picture of BYJ.

Bodyguards beside him said, "Photo shooting is prohibited."

(There were 4 of them around BYJ's table.)

Ignoring their reminder, She clicked again...

The bodyguard said again, "Photo shooting is prohibited."

She clicked again..

The bodyguard said again, "Photo shooting is prohibited."

After all, she took as many as 8 photos of him.

How about BYJ? He kept on signing, smiling all the while.

What would it be like in case of GOD?

If she were a teenager, she would be pulled away by the hair.

If in her twenties, she would be called names.

Sure, the guards would snatch her camera away and pulled the film out.

I felt bitter.

They are all stars. However, the treatment of fans is totally different!

If I were a BYJ fan, I could have felt very proud of being his fan.

Today, he looked really beautiful in trying his best

despite his second autographing session recently held on Apr. 13th.

I, in a fit of temper, however, snapped at my sister-in-law,

"BYJ doesn't have a next schedule."

Anyway, it was a bitter day for me.

Encountering Bae Yong Joon

Even before the show ended, Frank has already found his way into my heart.

Some things, some feelings deep down inside me are slowly beginning to surface

and I’m at a loss at how to deal with these unfamiliar feelings…

Today at work, I did not have the mood to do any real work at all.

There’s a constricted feeling in my heart.

What can I do to relieve or release my pent-up feelings?

Let me just email you, that’s about the only thing I can do.

The SENDER field… should I write “Korea, Blue Diamond Villa, Shin Dong Hyuk”

or “United States, Wall Street, Frank”?

Heehee….

Young, handsome, stylish and intelligent;

confident, proud, aggressive and decisive;

cold, determined, focused, tender and passionate…

no idea how else I can describe this clean-cut specimen of a man.

“I’m only interested in money now. Marriage?

Let me be first be interested in women first…”

“Are you happy with the room service?”

“Not for the three hundred roses, but for the man who sent them.

For the man who has been sending things to your room all the way from the States.”

“This is not convenient?

Oh, all right, in future I will send them all to your house.”

“What is it that you don’t know?

Are you saying you’re not sure if Shin Dong Hyuk sent you roses or lilies,

or you’re not sure if I’m just another hotel guest,

or am I the new man in your life?”

“You’re hesitating. If that’s the case, let me be the one to walk towards you.”

“Trust… To trust someone is to believe the unbelievable.”

“A fool who knows of nothing but make money has now opened his eyes to the world of love,

and he’s getting greedy…”

“……”

Serious, confidence, no one can resist these lines.

His direct and straightforward approach is something everyone will love.

In contrast to all the idols and heartbreakers in the world,

Shin Dong Hyuk’s way of courting a woman is old-fashioned and even a tad clumsy.

Gifts, flowers, clothes, and even the ring…

All these were picked by someone else, so long as it’s something that suits the woman he loves.

But he’s so serious about it, and so confident about it.

He’s so forthright and he doesn’t mince his words, not allowing you any time to think.

Just like his usual self on Wall Street, he’s cool and decisive.

Once he’s made up his mind,

he will pursue with all his might and really focus on achieving what he sets out to attain.

His slightly raised head, that hint of a smile on his lips…

It almost feels as if even before you can react,

the outcome is clear, that he’s already held you captive, no two ways about it.

Bae Yong Joon, a very special man.

His single-lidded eyes are so oriental

and those thin-framed glasses add a certain intellectual and scholarly air to his appearance.

Yet his physique is tall and strong, the lines of his body so outstandingly arresting.

He’s so elegant and the quiet air about him make him seem a little aloof,

making people keep a respectable distance from him.

His tears… when they fall, they would just slide down his cheeks silently.

Yet his face would look so serene and cold,

as if the tears are from the deepest pockets of his heart, of his soul,

instead of stemming from his eyes.

Only his lips would move ever so slightly, speaking volumes about his joy or his pain.

His eyes, behind those glasses, tell of his strong pride.

This is the type of man I have a soft spot for,

this is the type of man I would fall for, have always been so.

His elegance, his fine and superior mannerism

and his cool-headedness seem to forbid me from getting closer.

I’ve always not had a liking for the spoken Korean language.

But, Bae Yong Joon, haha, what a surprise,

for the first time in my life,

I’ve actually felt that the words spoken from this man’s mouth are like music to my ears.

No, I’m not being biased. It’s just that everything sounds so natural coming from him,

his voice is so manly and his tone has a certain richness coupled with a slightly rugged edge.

I’ve watched Bae Yong Joon’s two dramas back to back, and both characters are such perfect men.

The tear-jerker Winter Sonata…

the lovely snow scenery was like a painting,

the music like poetry, the lovely male and female leads, the intriguing sad love story…

It’s no wonder it’s such a big hit. But I personally still prefer Hotelier.

It has wonderful dialogues and lines, exciting characters.

If the drama has been condensed into a 12-episode story just like the Japanese dramas,

then it would be even better.

It’s strange…

As compared to Jun Sahng in Winter Sonata,

Frank Shin who really did not have as much airtime caught my eye and heart more.

I was drawn to him more than I was drawn to Jun Sahng.

The smart suits, the short hair, the thin-rimmed glasses…

the look was clean cut, cool and efficient, it suited him very much.

And his body was even more beautiful in Hotelier than in Winter Sonata, haha…

I searched like crazy for anything about him on Google,

but there really was not much news about him.

Yes, he’s low profile and does not make public appearances much,

what can the media write about if there’s nothing on him at all?

Finally, found a variety program that he appeared in.

He took my breath away!

Black jacket, dark coloured V-necked sweater.

As usual, he was wearing his trademark glasses, this time they were black.

And his hair, most was being brushed back and it showed off his beautiful forehead.

He’s leaner than he was in Winter Sonata, the exact look that I adore.

It was obvious he was not used to such entertainment programs.

Standing amongst the four highly eloquent and expressive hosts, he appeared a little shy and quiet.

Despite the long string of questions, he kept his answers short and simple,

but his words still drew much laughter and applause.

Throughout, he would sometimes lower his head slightly and shake his head from side to side….

Not sure if he was trying to disagree with what they said,

or he was not sure what to say,

or he was just being shy…?

Have always felt that the man himself is a combination of Shin Dong Hyuk and Lee Min Hyung.

He’s reticent, stubborn, and yet warm, friendly and not at all pretentious…

Encountering Bae Yong Joon is just like encountering love, just like falling in love.

Yes BB.. his body is fabulicious and SYJ's 'ding dong ding dong' is sooooooo *ohh.. myyy.. goddd*~!! She has a really good and sexy body!!

hee... ding ding dong dong

April Snow- where do we go from here? My review

Well, I finally watched April Snow... after the long wait. I received "request" from 3 different people to do a review. So here I am... with one of mine "long-winded" posting. Feel free to skip this, particularly if you have yet to watch the movie as it contains spoilers.

I must say I have been a little apprehensive, after reading all the reviews and postings by critics and fans. I went to the cinema tonight, thinking to myself, "It's ok if I don't like it the 1st time. I may be able to appreciate it better the 2nd or 3rd time round."

What can I say? I like the movie.... really.

And it's not because BYJ is in it. I like the way it's been directed. This is a Director Hur's movie.. period. If you have watched his 1st 2 movies, you would have realised that this is his style..with some slight differences. For eg, there's more close-ups shots and less dialogue. I guess you can say it's an art movie.

If you are looking for a romantic love story, with beautiful, lush cinematography and heart wrenching dialogues... forget about it because you will be disappointed.... that's I why I couldn't understand why the Korean critics compared this to WLS? The only similarity was the snow and winter.

In Soo

What do you do when you find out that wife, whom you love dearly has been unfaithful?

How do you feel when you see her lying next to her lover, in a coma, fighting for her life?

Can you still touch the same body that you thought had belonged to you, after seeing her being caressed by another man?

Where did you go wrong?

Did you love her less than the other man? Was he better?

Seo-yeong

How does this other woman look like? Is she better than me?

Am I still attractive? Perhaps I'm no longer desirable...as a very uninteresting housewife.

Can I love another man..? Is it a sin?

What did I do wrong?

Can I hate him? Do I still love him?

A million questions... with no answers.

There are times where words cannot fully express how we feel... because they would seemed so unnecessary and wrong. Perhaps that's why there's so little dialogue. It's movie where you have to observe, and observe and observe somemore and then you will feel. Each little acts, movements, looks, they all convey meanings that are not expressed in words and gave you clues and answers to scenes and how they are feeling.

The tearing of the calendar, the little potted plant that is always in the background, looking at his wife's lover's photo for the first and last time in the funeral palour.... all these are little things that do not seemed significant but they are. Blick, it will be gone and you will be left wondering what is happening.

I may write somemore later.... when I watch it again. In the meantime, here are 5 of my fave scenes at the moment, tonight. Perhaps they may change later.

1) When In Soo was looking at the camera, seeing his wife fooling around with another man... The reality, the pain, when he held the camera tightly. He could not take it and you hear him throwing up... all the while his wife's adultrous laughter in the background that seemed to go on and on .. mocking at him.

2) The long drive to the victim's home. It was just the beginning of spring. Crops were being planted, the soil was being turned and plowed. The field was not pretty. People going about their farming.. as always. How could it be so normal outside when their world has collapsed? It was a long journey for them... the road that seems to go on and on.... where and how will it end up?

3) In Soo shutting himself in the car, with the music on full blast. Instead of putting on some sad music, he was listening to a fast, pop song, singing to the lyrics..."This sadness shall pass. Life is wonderful." He could not shout at his wife, he could not vent his frustrations. He wanted to hit out at someone, something, anything. He needed to remind himself that it will not be always like that... that it will get better eventually.

4) When their outing was rudely interupted with the news that Su Jin had woken up and In Soo rushed back to the hospital. Seeing Seo Yeong having a ice cream by herself and then walking by the beach, with people in the background enjoying themselves... there was never a lonelier time for her. She is alone, by herself.... both her husband and her lover belong to another woman, the same woman.

5) Seo Yeong, catching a look of In Soo one last time from afar. Sitting in the cafe, looking into his window, seeing his figure appearing and then disappearing out of sight. The tears in her eyes, as she said goodbye to him in her heart. The painful knowledge that she may never see him again. There was no loud weeping but perhaps this is even sadder.

It's a very quiet film, like his two previous films, but I would not say it's slow. As someone said, watch the movie with your heart and not your mind.

Happy watching, everyone.

Btw, listening to the ost will put you in the right mood and frame of mind for it conveys exactly the right mood of the movie.
