What is Soompi Idol?

Soompi Idol is our annual talent competition where we search for the best performers among our community. It is a tradition enjoyed by Soompiers that gives our talented performers a chance to shine. The contest goes way back, making this our 9th! 

What is different in this year's Soompi Idol 9?

Soompi Idol has traditionally been a vocal competition, but we are accepting singers, rappers, and dancers this year!

So how does it all work?

Different themes are given each round, and it's up to the judges and YOUR votes to determine who gets to advance! Have fun, make new friends, win prizes... and release your inner K-pop idol!

How do I sign up?

Submit your Application Form and Preliminary Round Entry to this topic. More information is included below.

Registration opens March 5 and ends March 25, 2012.

We will start accepting entries starting March 5, and you will have until March 25, 2012 to sign up. Only 50 Soompiers will move on to the First Round, so make sure you give it your all!

Hello(: Thank you so much for your dedication to this, even though a lot of these posts are from people who don't bother to read crucial information...

This is my first time entering, and I'm curious to how the rounds in the future will play out. Are we just picking new songs for every round with the same time limit of 1:30 until the winner is picked? Thanks in advance!

You can check the Soompi Idol 8 Directory for an idea of how things work. The 1:30 time limit will only be enforced for the preliminary round. The time limit will increase each round, and there will be different themes given throughout the competition. Let's say one of the themes is "Love Songs" --- you'll have to sing, rap, or dance to a song about love. Hope this makes sense.

Is there going to be any form of judge input for each entry?

I know it's kind of ridiculous for you guys to judge 60+ entries, but will there be a score or something?

I don't mean to be bitter, stingy or annoying, but I'm starting to get really self-conscious about all the dislikes I'm getting... am I doing something wrong...? I don't understand... and I need someone to elaborate.. ><

Yes, all of the entries will be scored. We have more judges this year as well.

I have a few questions, not sure if they would apply to the general populace here buuuuuuut I'll ask anyway.

1. Since you used the term "K-music", this extends to Korean indie, Korean electronica, Korean jazz, Korean hip hop genres also?

2. If you answered yes to the above, K hip hop artists have a habit of dropping a few swear words into their songs..............There's a song I would really like to cover, but there's a part where the lyrics go "f*** outta here", are songs with profanities best avoided? or should the profanity be substituted or...does it depend on the context of the song meaning?

1. Yes, that's all Korean music.

2. Profanity is OK if it's part of the song.

Hello i'm worried about somthing, I don't know if i can do that but i did a full song but i want to be judged on the last part of my video, in my application form, i link it to 02:01 untill the end it's actually 01:30 long ( the video is 03:31 long ), i don't really mind to be judge on the first 1:30, but of course if i can choose i would like to be judge on that specific part.

and i'm sorry if i made a few mistakes but english isn't my first language. Thank you for understanding.
