@strawberry.llamas: you're korean? Me too ^^ yea... I'm 23 in March and in university XD my highschool didn't have any photography courses and the ones at my university fill up real quick and are for the most part reserved for photography majors ><... Must be nice to have a dad that knows a lot about photography ^^

Where are you from btw? I'm born and raised in Canada ^^ went to korea for the first time this past summer actually ^^

Yup ^^. I'm a twinkie though, born and raised in the U.S. of A. And i'm still in high school (yeah, i know i'm a young bull -0-)

Yeah my dad is pretty awesome haha. My friend calls him a hippie just cause he recognizes a lot of oldie but goodie bands. It's really cute seeing a 53 year old asian man trying to sing Buffalo Soldier. Lol he just sings buffalo soldier to the whole song. He said that Simon and Garfunkle were reaaaaally popular in korea back then. Even tries to sing a long to the Beatles as well.

It's great that he's into photography, that way i don't have to buy a camera :D (hand me downs <3)

echoism how is the epson v30?? I'm debating if i'm going to be serious about film and invest in an epson v700 (review here ).

but i think there's a problem with my scanner or film (it's one of those free printer/scanner when you purchase this PC thing). This is what my film looks like when i try to scan it. scan0006.jpg This was colour negative by the way...

if i buy the v30, would this still happen?? Or is it just the store??

^are you using a regular scanner?

to get best results, you need a film scanner to convert the negatives into images. there IS some way to convert that image, but its complicated (search on youtube)

omg, my mom is the same way... she loves the beatles, simon and garfunkle, MJ, abba, and a bunch of other old dudes that i dont know lol XD.... but yea, songs were so much better in the olden days, dont u think? the lyrics has so much more emotion and meaning to em than the stuff we hear today.... and my mom loves a lot of classical stuff too.... OH and old school korean songs XD.... since shes always listening to oldies, ive adopted her taste for music and im happy with it ^^ i pretty much listen to anything, but i really think songs were better back in the day (:

The V30 is alright. It's pretty low-end, but I just needed something that worked alright, and was fairly portable (most film scanners, especially flatbeds weight like 20lbs and are massive). I've heard pretty good things about the V700, but I think it's a little overkill if you're only going to upload stuff to the web. If you're going to be making prints a lot, then I'd say it's worth it. But that's just my lowly opinion. ;D

There's nothing wrong with either. You can't really use a regular scanner to scan film. It needs a special mechanism to turn the negative into a positive digital image. Some flatbed scanners have this attachment, but most don't.

So, who here develops their own rolls? My hat goes off to you guys.

This thread feels so homely already. :]

I develop my own roll and print my own prints. There's something comforting about working in the dark room. =].

I do mainly B&W film photography. Color film is an area I haven't had time to explore yet. Maybe someday.

The last one was just an experiment with monochromatics. The original size prints are 5x7's and scanned so that's why the picture show up like that. =]

I have so much respect for people who can develop their own film. I have a couple film cameras but honestly I usually grab a digital camera when I'm going out the door; I guess it's because I'm just more comfortable with digital and it's convenient.

What are your favorite films? I think my favorite these days are Kodak Ektar ISO100. I love the colors. I used to get the Kodak Professional Ultra Color but they were replaced by Kodak Ektar :I

Film cameras of mine:

Canon EOS ELAN 7NE (30V)

Contax 167MT

Contax T3 (best point and shoot film camera imo)

Fujifilm Natura S (super cool point and shoot film camera)

Leica M6

and finally a super old Nikon point and shoot film camera I took from my mom lol (it's not as old as the Contax 167MT or anything though; just a regular old point and shoot from the late 80's)

I am planning on getting a Leica MP... someday lol -.-a

I love Fuji NPS 160. I expose it at 80~100 ISO and it comes out gorgeous.

My close second favorite is Kodak 160VC, though.

I shot a roll through a m4, I need to pick it up tomorrow. Leicas are built like tanks.

Exactly. I think Leica film cameras are uniquely timeless.

haha yup! Songs were definitely better back in the days. It's pretty cool cause i guess all my friends are pretty indie/emo/punk and they're shocked to know that my parents know that kind of music. While my dad was waiting for me at an orthodontist appointment, he was listening to Moody Blues. And when I asked him, he said, "It was something I use to listen to when I was younger" lol

my parents really didn't listen to that kind of music when i was younger. I just grew to love that kind of sound. Maybe it runs in the blood :P

oh okay that makes sense~ Thank you~~

hm not sure how to search for it though...."How to scan negatives with a regular scanner" ? haha i'll try though!

Thank you!! If you have time, do you think you can upload a scanned negative?? I want to see if it's worth it :P haha i know i'm so cheap ><

do you edit your pictures after you scan them with photoshop??

those look great! But for the first one...i'm not sure if the digicam or your hand is suppose to be the point of focus. but otherwise it looks great...a little blurry but it still looks cool!

I also like the last one. :]

i also develop and print too at school. It's relaxing especially if you got some good music in the background ^^

i have been planning to get a slr/rangefinder.

but cannot find one at a cheap deal.

i own a toy camera though.

i'm pretty sure you can find a decent priced camera on ebay?? Are you looking for new or used cameras??

There's no way you can get a decent scan straight from the scanner, even from very high end ones. I use Lightroom to post-process. I correct white balance and sharpen at the very least for everything.

Hi, I just dug out my dad's old SLR, a canon AE-1. I don't really know anything about the workings of a SLR or DSLR.

Anyways, so I noticed the foam has deteriorated and there are some specs of foam on the top plate above the mirror in the camera.

Also, there's a very light smudge on the mirror which is hard to notice but I can see it when I fog the mirror with my breath.

Does anyone have any advice on what I should do about it, and any recommended guides or forums I should go to for information?

Sorry, pics weren't taken with film ;)

Try a test roll and see how it comes out? If you're in SoCal, you could check out the Canon service center in Irvine :]

I'm using a Canon A-1 SLR for my B&W film. For the foam, you can possibly use a dust blower and blow out the bits. It'll get annoying have to blow it out everytime though and it may screw up your pictures. For the smudge on the mirror, don't touch it. Take it to a camera shop and ask them to take a look at it. The mirror is there to reflect your image onto the film correctly. Most of the time a very light smudge won't make a difference, but you can always check to be sure. It won't cost you anything to have it taken a look at.

Hope it helps. =]

The camera's suppose to be in focus. haha. It's in focus on my actual print. I hate the lost of details when I scan.

Haha...digital is convienent. I can see my photos asap. However, how it looks on that tiny screen is completely different on a computer screen. =/. Practice makes perfect. =].

As for my favorite films, since I only shoot in B&W film it'd have to be the T-Max from Kodak. I usually shoot in rolls of 36 and 5 rolls for each subject. =]. Developing rolls doesn't take that long. It's the print process, esp. if you do manual "post processing".
