Hi Soompiers,

Come join us this week for an impromptu Soompi chat session! On Thursday, March 22, starting at 6 PM EST (3 PM PST), the Soompi forum staff will host a free chat for all members. The chat will run for approximately seven hours, so feel free to stop in at any time to say hi and get to know your fellow members in a safe environment! There will be at least one staff member moderating at all times, and other moderators and admins may come in to chat.

Details about the chat (URL, sign in, rules) will be posted in this thread right before the chat, but the session will likely run on tinychat (unless you have a better suggestion). You will not need to do video or audio, or create an account in order to participate.

Hope to see you on Thursday!

Yay cool idea~

May i perhaps suggest something like IRC thou?

Something like this

http://webchat.freenode.net/ or http://webchat.quakenet.org/ (Freenode is usually only for open source software or non-profits thou, Quakenet is for everyone)

With a Soompi channel pre-created and the necessary Soompi staff members given mod/admin access to the channel beforehand. Mainly because i just tried tinychat and it seems a bit clunky and something that doesn't look like it will scale well past 100 members, compared to IRC which is designed for 1000+ people and it should accessible to more people and be less laggy.

If it is mIRC that will be used, this might be a useful site for those not familiar with it:

http://www.mirc.com/install.html

This link will help a new user download the program (should take no more than 5 minutes) and also provides basic instructions on how to connect to a channel (chat room).   From that point on, all we'd need to know is the name of the server and channel to be able to join.

As a supplement, here is a link to a set of basic IRC commands:

Any network that can be accessible via web client would also be quite user-friendly.

Then you just need to provide users a link to click, pick a nick, and log in.

Unless I'm looking to pirate some illegal warez like a no good pirate, I usually just do that.

Basically, the chat starts at:

Los Angeles: Thursday, 3 PM

New York: Thursday, 6 PM

London: Thursday, 11 PM

Manila: Friday, 7 AM

Sydney: Friday, 10 AM

It will run for about seven hours, so most people should have a chance to stop by and say hi, even if the starting time isn't exactly convenient.

Thanks and will update you on how to get there when the time comes!
