Anyone else have darkened lips? Any products that help?
[Edit (6/9/10)]: Hey everyone. A few soompiers have messaged me asking whether the cream works. I'm so very sorry to all of you who were expecting results. I wasn't able to purchase the cream and it's no longer on ebay now. However there are several similar creams like Mayfair or Finale. I wanted to try one of those but I really don't know when I'll be able to purchase. Please forgive me for not being able to post any results, since I don't know when I can actually buy the products.

Hey girls and guys. So I've come across a problem that has haunted me for YEARS. My lips.

I used to have pink lips. But over the years, they've seriously darkened. Now my upper lip is dark brown, almost purple-ish, and my lower lip is pink with dark brown/purple-ish lining. It looks terrible on me! I try to use pink lip glosses to make the color even out, but you can still really see how dark my lips have gotten.

Does anyone else have this problem with darkening lips? Are there any products(that actually worked) you can recommend to me that will help lighten my lips back to their natural pink again?

I'm about to buy this product: Dr.Sasaki Tokyo Pink nipples in 3 days.

Haha yes you read correctly, it's made to get pink nipples. >.>

But I've heard that these type of creams can work on lips too, because the type of skin on lips is similar to the skin on nipples. So I was gonna buy and use it on my lips. :\

Help? Please? :)

Edit: Oh and I don't smoke or drink coffee or anything that would stain my lips. They've just darkened on their own (probably due to my bad eating and sleeping habits, as I know this affects your skin too)

Well.. when I want to wear really pale lipgloss, I neutralise the colour of my lips with foundation (sounds weird I know.. I picked it up when I was reading fashion magazines in Japan) but it makes the pale lipgloss look a lot better, and it might pale up you lips I guess..

I've heard of that cream :P The crazy things people get up to lol. I guess it's fine cos they are both delicate so there's no risk of harming your lips :)

I think lips darken with age.. like nipples XD I doubt coffee would stain your lips unless you drink it 24/7

I heard that you can get darker lips/dark lining around your lips if you like your lips a lot...

Sorry, I can't help with the cream... I don't know if it works =/

Mine used to be completely Pink as well, soon the color turned to a pink with dark red mixes. the outer rims of my lips turned dark red for some reason.

i've actually got rid of it a little with glycolic acid, been using it for about 2 weeks and it's doing some good.

Also, you should try Alpha Hydroxy Acid(AHA). it works good on pigmented skin.

lol well I'm not exactly old...would you call 18 old? haha and I don't really lick my lips...though I used to a lot when I was younger, so that might be the cause. Oh BHA is in this product (Dr.Sasaki product), and BHA is another form of hydroxy acid...maybe it'll work for me then

lol i know! I was like (o_O) "wtheck??" when I first saw nipple cream.

... Hm, genetics? No... That wouldn't make sense cause they weren't originally dark before.

But is using nipple cream even safe to apply to lips? Some might end up seeping into your mouth.

I wouldn't try it...

Good point...I didn't think about that >.> Well, I'll probably apply before I sleep, and since it's a cream, I know it'll just absorb into the skin...i'll just have to be reallyyy careful when applying.

I have the exact same problem!! I would love to see if you come up with a solution to this. This has been bothering me for years. I'm pretty sure it's not genetic cuz my lips used to be really pink before >< Now like yours like black/purple-ish around the linings.

I have the same problem as you..but now what I find work for me is to first put on lip balm then I would apply a little bit of concealer all over my lips to make it a little lighter, then I use the lip tint thingy from benefit I put that evenly all over my lips then I would apply lip balm again to prevent my lips from getting dried and to top it off I would just apply a little bit of pink lip gloss.....I've been doing this for couple months now and it really does the job for me...hope that help you at least a little bit =)

Thanks for the tips! ^_^ But I'd really like to just have my lips natural pink again haha so that I won't have to do a routine thing every morning to get them pink...I'm always running late for morning classes and it would be so much easier if my lips would just be naturally pink and I just added a coating of lip balm. =P

Okay so I guess I'm just going to order that cream and try it out. I'll probably have to be consistent, since I don't really think my lips will go pink in just 3 days. I'll tell you guys when I buy it and keep you updated on my results ;) Thanks so much for your input guys!

I heard godiva (not the chocolate store :P) lipgloss is made to lighten dark lips.

I googled it and theres a bunch of pages tracking people's progress. Overall it looks like it works but I haven't tried it myself

Godiva makes nipple creams too, so I guess the lipgloss is similar to the Dr. Sasaki product?

Oh I've known about Godiva lip gloss for a while :) But I read lots of reviews on it and it doesn't seem to work for most people...so I decided not to buy it. I decided on dr.sasaki because of its ingredients. BHA is known to help the epidermis shed more readily and known to help in skin pigmentation.

If this one doesn't work, I just might try Godiva for myself and see if it helps =]

I have the same problem as well as all of you, my lips were pink when i was younger, then became darker as i grew up. I wonder if maybe it has something to do with exposure to UV rays outside? You know, as your skin gets exposed it gets tan? Maybe our lips are the same way. Hopefully some one will give us updates on their methods soon. :D

Yea I'm pretty sure UV rays has a lot to do with it. So along with Dr.Sasaki, I plan on buying a nice SPF chapstick. ;) My little bro has pink lips and i'm soooo jealous, I keep telling him that and he just laughs lol xD

huh could it be because of your lip balm? dunno but i got this quote from another topic around soompi... :

I did some research on essential oils and most of the benefits com from smelling it (there are ERP studies, etc which show benefits)

However oils like lavender are cytotoxic (it kills skin cells) and increase your risk of sun burns. even at concentrations as low as 0.2%

also citrus oils increase the risk of sunburn as well.

It doesn't make sense to me that companeis would still choose to put these essential oils in their products when it is well researched that they are not good for your topically. My favorite Burt's Bees lip balm has orange oil in it...and I have noticed dark marks and pigmentation on my lips since using it for the past year...how unfortunate

I have the same problems too.

I cannot find the solution to it. If you do plz pm me about it!

But I can help you hide it.

1. Put on nude lipstick all over your lips. Don't put in too much. Put in little and blend it out with your finger. Make sure you cover every dark spot.

2. Take a pink (or pinkish red, this color probably makes your lips looks more natural pink lips than pink but whatever floats your boat) lipstick and put it in the middle of your lips, both top and bottom. Don't put too much. Only the middle part. Then smack your lips together ( i don't know how to describe this...like blend your lipstick using your lips?). Make sure the red or pink blend out evenly and all over your lips except the corner of your lips.

3. Put on your favorite pink lips gloss. (This step is required because if it blends the colors out really good because if you only using lipstick, it will look unnatural)

You will have an amazing natural looking lips. Trust me, I do this everyday. When I wear it out, people thought it was my natural lips color. They only thought I put in gloss only, the color is natural.

For those people who use foundation, I suggest you stop using it. There are nude lipstick that have foundation colors. If you keep using it it will ruin your lips in the long run. It might works now but later, it will messed up your lips.

I usually hate lipstick because it feels so..."stuck" on my lips...lol sorry best I could describe it. But this sounds like a good idea, maybe i'll try it. Do you have a brand you could suggest that has good nude lipsticks?

ahh...it feels like there's so much to worry about in cosmetics  I hope the pomegranate one by burt's bees isn't bad...I really want to buy that lip balm =P
