I've been looking at places like MACY's, Sephora, or MAC to do my makeup (probably the cheapest place i can find) The people who will do my makeup will be trained professionals right? I remember one time my friend got her makeup done at MAC and she looked like a clown for prom. I guess what I'm asking is the best place you'd recommend to get my prom makeup done. Thanks!

I'd look at yelp.com to see the make up artists around your area. I honestly think that those department store make up artists usually go overboard, and your best bet is to find someone who has an individual business/a portfolio you can look through.

i wouldn't go to any type of STORE to have my makeup done for an event. the sole purpose of them doing your makeup is to try to get you to BUY BUY BUY, so they will use as much product as they can.

call your local professional spa/salons and ask about their rates. many offer beauty services for weddings and other events.

The best place? Your bathroom!

If you're going to get your make-up done only once on the day of prom, stick to doing it yourself.

if you go at least once before, then you can see what you might look like prom night because maybe people have bad experiences with counters. And i've seen quite a few... tragedies already.

Could always ask a friend or mum to do it.

You DONT have to go to prom with makeup, but this is a very special occasion so i guess it's necessary. If you are willing to spend some deal of money to get makeup done, make sure it fits your budget, it's only for one night, don't want to overdo it.

I would just go without makeup, but then again, i don't know your facial details and all, so good luck!

I had my hair and makeup done by a family friend who works at a hair salon. You should look around for the more professional hair salons; most of them will help with makeup too :)

not all mac or sephora SAs are trained professionals. A lot of them just like makeup and are there to sell it to you. What you could do is walk in a few weeks before prom and look around at the makeup artists working at the time. See if there's anyone's makeup you really like and ask her if she takes appointments.

If you know how to do your own makeup very well I suggest you just do it yourself save yourself the money. You can also watch youtube videos to get inspire. To be honest if I had the makeup skills that I had today I should've done my own makeup.

When I went to prom my best friend got her makeup done at MAC and I thought she looked great here's a picture of her:

I think the only thing they played up a lot was the eyes and she won prom queen that night. I on the other hand got my makeup down at clinque and it was very nice and natural but the makeup was still gorgeous!

If you want to fork over the money to purchase merchandise to get your make up done go for it if not look into other means. Also, if you're afraid of them making you look like a clown tell them what you like and don't like that's what my mom and I did.

I'd suggest MAC. Definitely not sephora because they aren't very professional. Make sure you tell your MUA exactly what you want and what you want it to look like so that in the end, you'll like it :)

Nearly every asian that I know that has gotten their make up down at MAC looked...trashy to say the least. Like a mail order bride tbh. Also you have to buy 50 dollars worth of cosmetics to get it done.

I wouldn't recommend getting your make up done there unless you're very specific about what you want done.

Personally, if you're asian, I'd go get it done at The Amore if you have any of those where you live. Or any asian cosmetic store.....I wonder...does anyone know if Shiseido does make up?

^ Why was Sephora a bad experience? :o Wait time? So sephora said they'll charge me $15 while MAC will charge $50. I know exactly what I want, I was planning on bringing a picture for it. lol

Kinda have to agree. I've seen girls that had their make up done from MAC and I swear it was horrible. They looked like drags. -_-

I went to MAC to get my makeup done for a party and they definitely made me look like a clown. :'[

The lady put a horrendous amount of blush on me & made my skin tone a couple shades darker than my neck. -___-

I suggest you go on Yelp or Craigslist to find a local make up artist. :]

For all those comments about MAC making you look clownish, that's really why you need to go down there yourself and make an appointment with an MUA that's already there. That way, 1), he/she can see what you look like and 2), you can kind of preview the work he/she can do. Shop around for your MUA while you're there.

I just posted up a picture of my friend if anyone even read my post do you think she looks like a clown because I certainly don't but that's just my opinion.

^ Your friend looks awesome btw!

Not all department stores are bad, it could just be the area you're living in. I had my makeup done at Macys and Nordstroms and they were pretty good.

I don't usually go to the MAC counter, so I can't say how well they do but I had my make up done at Laura Mercier, Dior and Benefit and they were pretty good experience for me. I'll post a picture later.

Of course it depends on the person, but what you can do is go ahead of time before prom and like people have said check out some of the SA work. Or even ask what kind of look they can do for evening and possible just test it out on you to see if you like it or not. Not all places charge, I know that MAC charge $50 for you to buy their products.

The Laura Mercier counter here doesn't charge, and as for Benefit and Dior, I'm not sure since I never made an appointment with them. But I have had my make up done by them when I was just looking at their products.

So if you are really afraid of looking like a clown for prom, do some research ahead of time! =D
