Which Do You Do First: Cleanse Or Exfoliate?

I cleanse, and than exfoliate.

Some people don't even cleanse before/after exfoliating.

And also, how many times do you exfoliate a week?

(found on another forum)

Used to cleanse then exfoliate until i had a skincare consultation and they told me I should exfoliate first to open the pores etc for the cleanser to work properly.
I cleanse first - I don't like the idea of an exfoliator possibly grinding grime deep into my pores :eek: Paranoid perhaps, but... better safe than sorry I say :lol:
Definately need to cleanse first to get makeup, oil, grime off and on a clean face exfoliate gently.

Also, if you're using a facial mask, should you cleanse first or after?

I thought the exfoliation beads/pits/etc. came in a cleanser. <_____<;

I don't know about the cleansing then mask thing, but I exfoliate before a mask.

&I usually exfoliate twice a week.

For me, the logical order that makes the most sense to me (not necessarily meaning that they work best in that order) would be cleanser, exfoliator, mask, toner, then moisturizer. I had to pause for a while to think about whether exfoliator should come before mask though, I'm kinda unsure on that one ;P

I never cleanse my face. Lately I've been just washing my face with water.

So for me it would be water > exfoliate > mask > toner > moisturizer.

I exfoliate once or twice a week.

same here, i usually just exfoliate without using a cleanser first... i mean you're rubbing away all the dirt at the same time... no...? ^^;

but otherwise, i definitely exfoliate, mask, then toner.

I exfoliate then cleanse.

The reason is because the exfoliating gel doesn't work on damp or wet face.

Plus it makes more sense to remove dead skin 1st then wash away all the remains on the face.

You don't have to exfoliate & cleanse together. Double cleansing isn't necessary or recommended.

Manual exfoliation (scrubbing beads) usually already comes embedded in a cleanser. You won't usually find beads just suspended in a water-soluble gel. So if you're planning on exfoliating, you can just exfoliate and not worry about cleansing afterwards.

If you use a DIY exfoliator like baking soda, then I would recommend exfoliating first and then following up with a cleanser.

For real? Just water? wow.

Anyway, I exfoliate (once a week), then cleanse. :P
