Last night the Golden Horse Award red carpet was star studded. This year's president Sylvia Chang (Cheung Ngai Ga) was praised for her well maintained figure. She smiled and said, "Do I need to exercise more?" First time at the Golden Horse Award, Gong Li said that she was very nervous but remembered to wave and blow kisses to fans who were screaming her name. In return she received meter busting screams. She admitted that she regretted only attending the Golden Horse Award in its 51st year, but she finally made it. How did she grasp her character? She said, "Watch the film, I completed the impossible mission in the film." Will she make another comedy after FLIRTING SCHOLAR (TONG BAK FU DIM CHAU HEUNG)? She said, "I will play a comedy veresion of COMING HOME!" Tang Wei received passionate cheers on the red carpet and she thanked everyone for their love for her. Last year's Golden Horse Best Actress did not arrive in Taiwan until yesterday afternoon, she said that this year she not only stayed at the same hotel as last year, even the room was exactly the same. That moment brought her a lot of sentiments because she recalled all that has happened this year. Her mood was especially different. Because this year she will only present an award, she was especially relaxed. 

Last year's Golden Horse Best Actor Lee Kang-Sheng and Kuo Shu-Yau were guest presenters. With her display of deep "career line", did Lee Kang-Sheng not dare to look at her directly? Taiwan film KANO's Japanese star Masatoshi Nagase and director Umin Boya yesterday wore the same suit to the red carpet. Later when Umin Boya and Lee Lieh presented Best Original Screenplay he forgot his lines. Lee Lieh immediately tried to cover for him. KANO on the eve of the Golden Horse Award won the FIPRESCI prize and the Golden Horse Audience Choice Award. 

Qin Hao walked the red carpet with the BLIND MASSAGE team. His finace Annie Yi was by his side. They not only held hands but while waiting Yi even pouted at Qin Hao. As for their wedding date, they said that in February they will have wedding ceremonies in China and Taiwan. Qin Hao said, "As long as you ask, we won't hide anything." Yi hoped taht her film THE QUEENS will be at the Golden Horse Award next year. 

Host Ella Chen Chia-Hwa admitted that due to the enormous pressure she frequently had nightmares lately. "I once dreamed that no one was on the red carpet, then the broadcast had to be stopped." Her colleague Mickey Huang in order to "stand out" put eight centimeter pads in his shoes. Later the married Ella reenacted a PARADISE IN SERVICE scene and opened the Golden Horse with a song and dance number. Before Best Actor was announced, Ella openly "flirted" with Chen Jian-bin and Liao Fan right in front of her husband.

Two days ago Gong Li leaves Taiwan with a smile, then her manager issues a statement

This year's Golden Horse Award has come to an end. The pre race favorite Gong Li was unable to become the Golden Horse Best Actress with the film COMING HOME. She even lost to Taiwan actress Chen Shiang-Chyi by one vote. Gong Li's manager yesterday not only called this award unprofessional but also said that she will never attend again. 

Before the race Gong Li was full of confidence. Originally the sponsors arranged for a celebration, but it was cancelled at the last minute that night. Many Gong Li fans were upset for their idols and blasted jury president Joan Chen on Weibo. When Gong Li left Taiwan earlier she was still smiling and said that she will come to Taiwan again. Yet yesterday her manager issued a statement on her behalf, she was obviously upset at the loss. 

Gong Li's statement said, "For my trip to this Golden Horse Award, I give special thanks to the Golden Horse Award to giving me this opportunity for me to understand what an unprofessional film festival is like. It is also an unfair film festival, all artists will look down upon them." 

Gong Li continued, she really liked Taiwan. However she will not attend this amateur film festival again; she also said that this was her first trip to the Golden Horse Award and it was also her last trip to the Golden Horse Award. Her manager said that Gong Li has always been direct with her words. This comment targeted the result and not the Best Actress award.

27 Nov – Joan Chen has recently dismissed rumours saying that her rivalry with Gong Li had cost the latter her Best Actress award, as reported on Mingpao News.

The Chinese-American film director, who helmed the panel of jury for the 51st Golden Horse Awards recently, was previously rumoured to be at odds with the Chinese actress.

Though both stars have denied the rumours, Gong's recent loss to Taiwanese actress Chen Shiang-chyi has re-sparked rumours of their conflict, with Gong's fans claiming that it was Joan who voted against her.

However, Joan has turned to her social network account to dispel the rumours, saying, "I have always appreciated and admired Gong Li's performance, and considers her acting in "Coming Home" as accurate and moving. That is why I cast my vote for her."

Joan said that it is normal for people to accuse an award show for being unfair after the results were announced, especially when their favourite star did not win - and the Golden Horse is no exception.

The director said that the panel of jury consists of filmmakers and professionals from the industry that hailed from mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and around the world, and that they cast their votes in a transparent and democratic process, free from outside interference.
