How Do You Pronounce ...

I'm tired of the "how do you pronounce X or Y" threads that keep spawning all over the forum. You are to use THIS thread to discuss all the different pronunciations you can find about a particular word. Do NOT start another thread because it will just be merged.

So far we've had:

Debut:

1) Day-byoo

2) Day-byoot

1 or 2? Haha or do you have another way of saying it?

I was looking through homework and realized that debut was

pronounced "daybyoo" so I thought that was pretty interesting

As for me I pronounce it # 2.

Crayons:

Do you guys say crayons as:

CRAY-ON'S (like the word ON, but plural with an S at the end)

or

CRAY-INS (eventually sounding like CRANES)

or (new addition from replies)

CROWNS/CRAWNS ----------------------------- I have no idea where you guys came up with this one.

or (new addition from replies)

CRAY-UNS ---------------------------------------- This one sounds like a mixture of the first and second one.

CRANS (like cranberries? lol)

Okay, it seems like tons of people don't get why some might pronounce it as CRAY-INS.

It's not exactly IN'S, but it's like saying the word BACON. You don't say BAKE-ON. You say BAKE-IN.

So that's probably why some people pronounce the ON part of crayONs as IN.

Well, unless you actually pronounce BACON as BAKE-ON...

Most of my family members pronounce it like "fuuh", but my friend pronounces it like "foe" (another name for enemy) .

If it's a movie debut, I say day-byoo..

If it's a birthday debut, I say day-boo...

Iono why ahha.

I say "deh-boo" if it's a birthday party :]

But yeah, for other things I use the textbook pronunciation.

I usually say both.. It depends what kind of sentence I'm using it in though. But most of the

time, I say day-byoot. Dunno why, I've always heard it that way o_o

LOL i say the first way most of the time, and when i say it in past tense i say it the second way except with an -ed added to it.

i never thought about this word very much before haha.
