well my family's from the south, du ma means a cuss word. Mai is to describe someone in a rude manner, an is to eat, cuc is another bad word, and cho is dog. so therefore, don't say it....sigh...i never shoulda wrote that lol

do you guys know any good vietnamese quotes?

i have a few!

Quen biet day thien ha. Tri ky duoc may nguoi

translation: you know lots of people. but how many of them are loyal/close friends.

(it sounds so much better in viet)

Cong cha nhu nui Thai Son. Nghia me nhu nuoc trong nguon chay ra.

translation: Dad's ....wait..this ones really hard to translate. someone help!

Ca khong an muoi ca uong. Con cai cha me tram duong con hu

translation: Fish doesnt have salt, it'll go off. If you don't listen to your parents, you'll grow up as a bad person.

(this is sort of comparing u to a fish.. <_< )

(Hanoi "r" is the same as English "z").

ahah. sorry, this made me laugh >.<

if anyone needs help i'm here. XD

sorry i forget the quotes i had.

um... this one;

ghet cua nao troi chao cua do.

basically saying if you hate something/someone you'll get the same back.

my mom says it to me when i'm being racist, so basically she said whatever race i hate will be the race i'll get, like marriage, friends, etc.

XD.

Ahhh, I know this one.

They play it at the funerals and stuff but, yeah.

I think it means like your dad's effort towards raising you is like a waterfall and your mom's is the water in the waterfall. :unsure:

I'm sure someone can give a better translation but, I tried. ;)

I laughed at the Du ma one x]

Cong cha nhu nui Thai Son. Nghia me nhu nuoc trong nguon chay ra.

Trans: A Father's effort in raising you is like Thai Son moutain. ( it is very large, huge and .... yeah ^^;;;). A Mother's effort in teaching you is like water in ............

Nguon`: means a place where water starts. I dont know how to explain it, its hard. But the sentence means your mother effort in raising you is also very important, special. ^^;;;;

I have one sentence: Bau` oi thuong lay' bi' cung`, tuy rang` khac' giong' nhung chung mot. dan`.

Trans: Oh gourd, love the pumpkin, Though of different species, you share the same trellis (credit to trans at dict.vietfun.com)

Meaning: eventhough we are of different races or color, help and love each other because we are all human.

Hahaha although I was born and raised in Vn and now I'm living in the U.S, but I think it's really tough to translate vietnamese into eng or backward. If sombody wanna me to translate eng into vietnamse, I surely can, but if from vietnamese to eng, I'll defend.
