"Empress Qi" recorded two digits.

According to Nielsen Korea, the first episode of the MBC drama "Empress Qi" rated 11.1%. This is 1.5% more than the final episode of the drama "Goddess Of Fire Jeongi".

Ki Seung-nyang's (Ha Ji-won) life story and coronation of empress was shown on this day. A short message was shown in the beginning saying this drama was a creative one, as if aware of the rumors of distortion of history.

This drama emphasized on the fact that the story of Ki Seung-nyang was fictional and Ha Ji-won appeared as a street gangster, dressed up like a man.

Meanwhile, "Suspicious Housekeeper" rated 9.3% and KBS 2TV "Marry Him If You Dare" rated 6.5%.

'Empress Ki' Impresses Viewers Despite Controversy


MBC’s Monday-Tuesday timeslot came back to the top with the first episode of Historical drama “Empress Ki”.

Despite the public dispute concerning a matter of opinion about ‘Distortion of History’, “Empress Ki” started smoothly and recorded a double-digit viewership rating on its first episode which aired last night. According to AGB Neilsen Korea, the period drama registered 11.1% nationwide while its rival SBS ‘Suspicious Housekeeper’ was unsuccessful in retaining possession of no. 1 spot with 9.3% and KBS2 ‘Marry Him If You Dare’ stayed behind with 6.5%.

Ha Ji-won’s strength was great. She cross-dressed naturally, enough to melt with her character. The coronation scene which is taken from China also caught the eye of the viewers with its magnificent scale. The production team who seemed to be aware about the ‘Distortion of History’ controversy explained that ‘the story of  Ki Seung Nyang who was taken from Goryeo and became Empress in Yuan Dynasty was considered a fictional figure and dealt with fictional events.

Meanwhile, Seung Nyang (Ha Ji Won) and Wang Yoo’s (Joo Jin Moo) first meeting was drawn on the episode that aired last night.  Emperor Huizhong and Empress Ki’s crowning ceremony was also revealed which shows the  fast development on its story.
