ADMIN

The candidate who will represent the Republican Party against Obama
Hi Soompiers,

We're presenting a monthly online debate for those who love interactive discussions. All members are welcome to assert their own points and counterpoints. Feel free to express your views without worrying about whose opinions are better. Here are the rules: No bashing or flaming (either the celebrities involved or your fellow members), elaborate rather than just stating your position briefly, and stay on topic. The moderators will get involved if things get out of hand, but they will remain objective.

Please keep in mind that after a point certain people will not change their stance on a subject no matter how much you will try to reason, thus you can agree to disagree!

    SUPERSTAR

I'm not a great debater, but it'll be fun to read/hear what Soompiers thought on this. So far, it seems like Ron Paul is the only one I read about that seems fit as President compares to Obama now. I'm very scared for the Americans now....it seems like everything is going downhill---the censorship on the web and etc....OMG, what the mini cooper is going on????

It doesn't matter who will win the GOP nominations: Obama will be reelected.

Exactly. They know they can't fix the economy ( with their anti raise tax philosophy ), so they will let the President flounder along for four more years sitting on the sidelines bashing him everyday. Then in 2016 they will push their real candidate into the white house easily. My money is on Jeb Bush.  :(

Yay! I love American politics. Yeah so looks like Mitt Romney is in the lead right now. I predict he would be the nominee because he's the most electable one. Ron Paul, Santorum and Gringich are all too conservative or extreme to convince independents to vote for them. Therefore the only viable candidate is Romney. And does Romney stand a good chance against Obama? Honestly, I think Obama will still win but I'm not betting anything.

I'm agreeing with the people up there ^^

I think Obama will win so the GOP doesn't have to "fix" the economy and probably not do so great because that's just how economics work(but of course its all Obama's fault. Okay he's not totally innocent and hasn't upheld everything he's said, but he did pull us out of a money consuming war he didn't start and has created jobs - whether they're temp./low-grade or notph34r.gif) Economics has highs and lows though(Although I think we're supposed to only go up from here (knock on wood))

It is kinda concerning to me to see Mitt Romney, the most vote-able for republicans(as said up there^^), in the top though. He's no Rick Perry but I personally just don't agree with his ideas and how he conducts himself to the public(the GOP debates sounded like a recess fight at times). I really only like Ron Paul out of the candidates for Republicans, but to each their own.

That being said, I saw somewhere Mitt Romney was in the upper 50% while Obama was in the lower 40's for a states vote. So who knows?

Edit: Gringrich won the SC primary, and SC is notorious for picking the GOP candidate. But Ron Paul apparently hadn't really been focused on that caucus, so there's still hope for him! haha

The election is still 10 months away; it's too early to say Obama will be re-elected even if the Grand Oligarchy Party has a rather lousy slate of candidates (and the party establishment doesn't really consider Ron Paul to be one of its own). We'll see if the economy takes a bigger dive and if there is an early October surprise..

Yeah Gingrich won SC last night. I don't really understand how you could vote for someone so despicable, I mean the guy flip flops, is a hypocrite, cheated on his wife and divorced her at her deathbed, got reprimanded and ultimately resigned as Speaker of the house, is filthy rich, etc. I mean say what you will about Romney, but at least the guy's a decent person, unlike Gingrich. Gingrich is a scumbag who will do anything to get what he wants.

Many people don't look up candidates past/personal life

And now that I did I have to say his third wife is an idiot. Does she honestly think he'll be faithful? Girl you cheated on his second wife who he cheated with his first wife. I won't feel any sympathy if he cheats on you.

Gingrich, I think is creepy...he married his teacher (wifey number one)

Hi. New member here and happy to stumble across this interesting thread. Nice to meet you all.

Gingrich is creepy. Then, again, I think that of most of politicians. Plus, how presidential is the name Newt? As for Obama being re-elected, I do not think that it will be easy. The public seems to be so fickle. I just wish that the lawmakers stop posturing and do their job. They get paid enough for it.

i hope that Obama will be re-elected.

but for the person that will represent the republicans, i hope it is Mitt Romney.
i'm not really a fan of both of the front runners, Romney or Gingrich,
but i rather have Romney than Gingrich get that far.

and I think one of the reasons he might be reelected is because people are at least familiar with him, and would rather stick with something they know, as much as they might not like it. With the gop candidates--nothing that's come out of any of their mouths would ever make me even consider voting for them. I feel nauseated sometimes listening to them.

I can't listen to any of them talk. They all want to get their mitts on my uterus and I'm not having it.

I am so excited that I am able to vote this year!
It's most likely that Romney will win the GOP nomination. It's concerning to me that these candidates spend more time dogging on each other than on issues.
Anyways, I'm also hoping that Obama will be re-elected. He's trying to do his best, but a divided Congress isn't getting anything done.

If you listen to any interview or speech, the GOP candidates never offer any specific plans for job creation or foreign policy or domestic policy, they only criticize President Obama and how he's 'put the country on a path to socialism'.

Out of all the Republican candidates, Ron Paul is the only one that actually makes sense. But the problem is, he WON'T win the GOP nomination because the people who tend to vote Republican just won't vote for him. So basically, as much as I hate him, I think Mitt Romney is going to win the GOP nomination.

If you lived on the internet, you'd assume that Ron Paul would win the election. What's up with that? How did this guy get so much internet support? I'm watching youtube videos and people talk about him on non political videos. Just a thought.
