I love this drama! Never knew who LJJ was but I'm smitten with his looks & acting skills! The chemistry between CJW & LJJ is awesome.

As for the ending, I'm more optimistic when interpreting it.

Their love is matured & subtle. KJS truly love HDK & she finally realises it only at the departure gate. If HDK is to be KJS's woman, she must wholly understand & accept the nature and danger involved in his job. Being sent on missions without leaving a word & not knowing when or if he'd ever return to her side. HDK nodded to KJS's question. She found herself feeling happy while waiting eventhough their farewell was painful & beyond her control.

Frankly, I believed that he would have stuck to his refusal in accepting the Moscow mission if only HDK had walked up to him to share his grief instead of dropping the flowers & walked away feeling that she has lost KJS to the dying doctor.

KJS, being an NIS agent, he knows that even if he defies this order from the HQ, there will always be another mission awaiting him. While in grief, he realises what his Chief said & the importance of the woman by his side must be able to understand & accept his job's nature fully. And that is why he did what he did > Accept the mission without exception.

HDK's confidence in KJS's love for her was shaken when she wittnessed his grief for his dying ex-girlfriend. But because of the chance to meet KJS again just before his departure, HDK now knows that KJS is also just as pained to leave her but it's part of his job. He reached out for her hand and held it lovingly (Note: She was startled... she then realised KJS's unwavering love for her!) As he held her hand, he asked HDK if she can understand & accept (his nature of work) ( Note: Just like he did before !) and she nodded. He said: Thank you. She couldn't control her emotions & tears fell. She apologised for shedding tears and KJS lovingly wiped them off. He too crumbled & at almost broke down too. (It was painful & agonising moment for the both of them...he did say to his Boss previously that his reason of defying the order in the first place was that he didn't want HDK to go thro' that pain whereby he can't tell her anything!) He quickly gave her a squeeze on her shoulder before forcing himself back on the plane with a clenched, stoic jaw.

HDK's monologue goes:

"I fell in love for someone and experienced a farewell that was beyond my control. Whenever a plane takes flight, my heart goes with it to whenever he may be. I'm certain that he too thinks of me whenever he sees an airplane. Farewells are painful, but at least I have discovered that waiting for someone can be a happy thing. "(She smiles happily just like KJS did previously!)

Recalled these interesting bits...

1. KJS did ask HDK in an earlier episode (after spending the night at the island & telling her that he'd be staying on) if she would understand him & nature of work. She nodded too.

From KJS: “You can understand me, right?”

> Now at his departure for his assignment, KJS repeats this question & again she nodded.

2. After HDK's presentation to the CEO of the Neo Airlines, KJS waited for her for more than 2 hours on the runway( another place with no cameras!). Then it was he who told HDK that he normally disliked most in the world is waiting for people but while waiting for that someone, he discovered that he was actually feeling happy!

From KJS: “You know...Waiting for someone for hours.. Without a single phone call…just waiting for a person…I suddenly discovered that it could make me so happy.''

> Now in HDK's monologue > She also discovered that same emotion > felt happy while waiting for that someone.

3. What KJS said to HDK before he handed her the info pack on Michael (thereafter HDK hugged him!) but after HDK expressed her worries & even asked him to quit.

JS : “Just like you love your job, I love mine too. It has nothing to do with how much we love each other.”

JS: Right?

JS: So, I’ll say it once more time.

JS: I won’t make you sad

JS: And I won’t make you worry about me.

JS: So please stop worrying about me alright?

JS: Ok?

DK: (Smiles)

JS: Ok! (Smiling back)

JS: Alright.

4. After the young goodlooking guy was back to the US, KJS & his boss had a drink together

Boss: You like your job?

JS : Yes, I like.

Boss: Does Ms Han like your job?

JS : She said she's willing to understand.

Boss: She's clear about what a shadow agent is? If one day, you suddenly just disappear without telling her why or where you're going, can she accept?

JS : Are you trying to say that I'm being reassigned?

Boss: Report at HQ at 8am tomorrow.

5. After KJS's proposal, he probably wanted to tell HDK of his next mission/assignment to Moscow. But since HDK wanted to tell him something & later decided against doing so. So, he too on second thoughts it was also best not to tell her & spoil the special moment plus he had to abide by the NIS rule > NOT supposed to reveal! That's why up till the end, he asked her if she could understand.

Well, missions do come to an end at some point so unless he died or something, he'd be back !!!! Cheers!

Read some of the earlier posts and hope to add some of my personal views too...

To me, KJS wasn't feeling guilty towards the dying doctor. I think it's just pure grief. Hey, afterall she once meant the world to him. And I recalled that SM did confess to HDK that she could not cope with the nature of his job etc. So even if she hadn't been sick, could their relationship last?! No doubt they had both lived together for 2 years but did KJS propose to her during all that time?! Probably not.

In comparison, KJS was clearly happily in love with HDK. So much so that he proposed to her immediately after knowing that he had a new assignment. He most probably wanted to tell her about it after the proposal but did not. Reasons? 1. HDK also didn't say hers so as not to spoil the mood. 2. He's actually not supposed to!

Hence, they both never said their "Goodbyes". There was no need for him to say "Wait for me" as suggested by HK. All he needed was her understanding. He was certainly glad to know that she did before reluctantly tearing himself from her!

Also, what did they do after they kissed at the jetty? Hmm...I'd say that they did spend the night together in the same room. Probably did it too! Why?!

1. Well, noticed that the sliding door was already wide opened & he was all dressed waiting for her outside sheepishly before she came out.

2. No real need for JS to help DK carry her handbag. (Just because of a kiss?! I think not! Ha! Ha!)

3. He looked shy & she knew it and hence, told him that she grew up in France & it's very common.

4. He replied that he can't help it as he's old fashioned! (Over a kiss or a one-night stand?!)

5. HDK, in the subsequent episode, who invited him to sleep at her house did say to the hesitant KJS that it is not as if it's the first time that they had slept together. Ha! Which explains KJS' shyness again during the car ride.

In conclusion, Air City is a must watch but one must be prepared...it's more like a action/romance movie than a drama.

Yes! Great if you do rewatch it & perhaps share your views too!

Here's another of my reasoning as to why KJS wasn't feeling guilty ...If he did, wouldn't he have defied the HQ's instructions & stayed by her side while she battles her illness?! It also shows that she's not important to him anymore. Only HDK is ! See how he fought back his tears. He's lucky to have found HDK who's willing to be understanding when duties call (Both being dedicated to their work).

Just my thoughts!

BTW, nevermind the ratings in Korea (which doesn't much justice!), just grab the DVD (Just checked>Still available at Poh Kim Compass Point Outlet, Singapore) with the English sub-tiltles!

I am rewatching the series. KJS negotiated for the release of HDK with the DA in exchange for intel. Later, HDK was released from detention and the DA told her that the airport President served as her guarantor. Was wondering if the DA made up the excuse for the release to cover for KJS?

As to why he still left for Russia, i would think that KJS needed time to deal with his grief and hope that HDK could understand his grievance as well as his job requirements while still loving him..

This type of open ending really make viewers wanted for another season. I really dont mind to have a clear cut happy ending for KJS and HDK..

Synopsis

thanks alot for all your observation ...its really true but i think KJS ask HDK marriage bec. he finally found someone can under stand him correctlly

HDK is soo special person to him and he really loves bec.:

1- she has strong ..ambitious ..understanding personality and this he observes during her work day and her speeches at meetings

2- she is not aberden on him and she has feeling of sharing not possession ...this clear when

+ she asked him why he go to hong kong after she go to the Prison and he tell her may be bec. of you ..but

she continue saying that he may want to say that although you are a good woman but i donot have a space for another woman in my heart

+ after they sleeping togather she never burden him with the Implications of what happened ..not Requests more than he wants to offer

+ she is realy mature that under stand his job and not act passionatly and leave the space for him to release his emotion

+ at the end she also can handle her emotion and understand him clearly but i wish she can run to him and kiss him i think in that he will be out of conrole i will not leave her

BUT

so i rewatched the drama and i have a question: why did he suddenly decide to leave for the mission and not stay with cjw?

i think KJS decided to leave HDK bec. of such copmlicated emotion he has

but staing back means that i have to see MW more often

i think this is his decision at the end to leave in order to run from his love to HDK and grief for MW

although KJS is a tugh person he is soooo fergaile and weak in his emotion ..he can handle danger but not love
