Who was Dam-deok (Gwang Gae Toh Dae Wang)?: He was the 19th king of Goguryeo (lasted from 37 B.C. to 668 A.D.). During the time of Dam-deok, Goguryeo was the most powerful nation in East Asia (yes, even the Chinese dynasty couldn't defeat Goguryeo). At age 11, he was made the Crown Prince and became King when he was 16. In 396, he attacked Baekje (a nation Southwest of Goguryeo) and took over the northern area above the Han River. He defeated the many invasions made by the Yeon Dynasty (China) after 400 A.D. During his reign, the number of castles he took over numbered in the hundreds and villages numbered in the thousands. However, he died at an untimely age of 39.

Storyline: Jumong, the founder of Goguryeo, establish Goguryeo with his Four Gods: Cheong-ryong (Blue Dragon), Baek-ho (White Tiger), Joo-jak (Phoenix), Hyeon-mu (symbolized as a turtle). The Japanese may know them as Seiryuu, Byakko, Suzaku, and Genbu. Jumong marries Soseono, who had a big part in the founding of Goguryeo. They have two sons, Onjo and Biryu. When the son of Jumong's first wife came to Goguryeo in search of his father, and is named Crown Prince, Soseono takes her sons, Onjo and Biryu, South and establishs Baekje. This is how Baekje and Goguryeo were known as "brother countries".

As time passed, the Four Gods secluded themselves from society and watched as Baekje and Goguryeo's relationship worsened (worsened more mainly because Goguryeo's king was killed in a battle between Baekje and Goguryeo).

One day, Ju-ahn, "Hyeon-mu" of the Four Gods, sees two stars sour up into the sky. Since one came from the palace in Baekje, it predicted the birth of "Su", later known as King Ah-shin. The other star came from Goguryeo, prophesizing the birth of Dam-deok, later known as Gwang Gae Toh Dae Wang.

Realizing that his new master has come to the world, Ju-ahn awaits in the vast Manchuria with a young girl, Sujini, to see which of the two will be his master. Sujini was picked up as an orphan by Ju-ahn and considers Ju-ahn as her father.

Therefore, the story is on the Four Gods looking for their master, Gwang Gae Toh Dae Wang, who was an expert in tactics, the woman he loved (Sujini), who was also loved by the coldhearted King Ah-shin.

Bae Yong Joon as Haemosoo, Joomong, Damdeok (character of Great King Kwang-gae-to)

'BYJ will act 3 characters in the 'Tae Wang Sa Shin Gi'(TWSSG). He will appear in the first and second episodes as Haemosoo, a descendant of Tangoon(Founder of Korea 5,000 years ago in a myth), and Joomong, the founding king of Kogooryeo in Tangoon Myth, and appears as the Great King Kwang-gae-to, the main character from 5th episode.

The Great King Kwang-gae-to, the person who had led renaisance of the Kogooryeo by expanding her territory in Manchuria, etc., has strong image of a conqueror. It might be difficult to find parts that coincide with tender image of BYJ. However, Director Kim Jonghak thinks that 'Dam Deok is rather outstanding strategist rather than brave general to the extent he conquered other countries' castles from age of 16. He told that he would like to depict 'Dam Deok' in such image in the 'TWSSG'

Moon So Ri as Seo Ki Ha

The Seo Kiha character Moon Sori is to act is a woman with fate in which she could not help but to become strong for the love she could not have. Inheriting blood-line of Honyeo(Tiger women) Tribe, who stayed as tiger while bear became a woman by going through enduring and suffering period in the Tangoon Myth, she has fate who cannot help but give in the seat of Queen to Woongneyo(Bear women) Tribe, and she is a woman of pathetic love who becomes a confronting BYJ rather than winning his love in the end. Miss Moon will appear born of the Honeyo Tribe, and will be scouted by ???? Nation that confronts Kogooryeo and then sent back to Kogooryeo as a spy, confronting Mr. BYJ.

Yoon Tae Young as Yeon Ho Gae Rival of Damdeok (BYJ)

Yoen Hogae is the character that rivals Dam Deok acted by BYJ. Having both clever strategy and bravery, he becomes a rival to prince Dam Deok from youth period.

He is the character who loved Seo Kiha(Moon Sori), woman priest, and having defected to China after Dam Deok ascent to King, he becomes general and threatens Dam Deok to the end.

Choi Min Soo, character name not known yet

He is said to act a villain character who interferes with growth of Dam Deok

Suzini is Scarlet Phoenix who came to posess power of fire by Hwangwoong in Mythology Portion, and she is an reincarnation of Saeo, who is a woman of Hwangwoong as well as a woman of Woong Tribe. Scarlet Phoenix Saeo, who came to possess power to rule fire as she received from Hwanwoong a ruby necklace where power of fire, that was taken from Kajin, is confined in, is a chracter who provides momentum for Hwanwoong to seal Four Gods as she manifested as Black Scarlet Phoenix in a war against Ho Tribe, and who came to beautiful yet heart-breaking love with Hwanwoong. She will reincarnate into Suzini in Kogooryeo Period.

Park Sang-Won as Yeon Garyeo

Lee Philip as Woonsa

'Cheoro' , a reincarnation of Woonsa who has power to rule wood as Guardian God in Orient, is lord of castle at Kwangmi Castle, who came to possess spiritually holy object of Blue Dragon by his father when he was young and has live in ugly appearance for a long time.

Oh Kwang Rok as Hyeon-go

'Hyeon-go', an incarnation of Black Turtle who possesses power to rule water as the head among Four Gods, became head of villiage at Keomeul at young age as indicated by cane, a spiritually holy object of Black Turtle. Since he found new-born baby 'Suzini' inside burnt home of 'Haessi when he was little, he raises Suzini despite objection from people around him.

Park Sang Myun as Jumoochi

White Tiger 'Joomoochi' , who has power to rule iron as a reincarnation of Poongbaek, is a character with dauntless personality in spirit of fighting with fists if he does not have weapon, and with teeth if his fist is cut off. As much as his dauntlessness, he also has warm-heart. He has blunt personality who cannot express outside although he likes Dalbi who are totally in charge of housekeeping in Damdeok Force. He reveals sense of his presence as he fights in war theaters helping Damdeok as supply corps of Malgal.

Yoo Seung Ho as young Damdeok (BYJ's charcater)

He will act the childhood of Dam Deok upto 4th episode.

Park Eun Bin as Seo Ki Ha (child, Moon So Ri's character)

MAIN CHARACTERS

2000 years ago 2000년 전에
환웅 Hwan Woong - 하늘님의 아들 Son of God. He took the power of fire from Ga Jin to stop the war between the tiger tribe and his people. He entrapped the power in a ruby necklace,
named it the heart of Ju Jak (주작의 심장) and gave it to Sae O. He fell in love with Sae O and they had a son together. However, he had to kill the love of his life because Sae O turned into the black Phoenix. After her death, he returned to the heavens and left the 4 magical items behind. He also left behind a legend. One day, the heavens above will send a new king down to earth. The 4 magical items will be awaken on that day. On the day of the kings birth, the king's star will appear.
새오 Sae O - 웅족의 여전사 Female warrior of the bear tribe, entrusted with the power of the Ju Jak by Hwan Wun She fell in love with Hwan Woong and gave birth to his son. However, Ga Jin stole their son out of jealousy and threw him off a cliff, Not knowing that Hwan Woong had saved their son, she was overwhelmed by rage and she turned into the destructive black phoenix. She was killed by Hwan Woong who had no other choice.
가진 Ga Jin - 호적의 불의신녀 Female priestess of the tiger tribe with the power of fire. She loved Hwan Woong but her love was not returned. She killed herself after Sae O died.

2000 years later 2000년 후에

담덕 DamDeok, 관개토태왕 - The real king of Jushin, expanded 고구려 Go Gwu Ryo.
His entire expanded empire is known as 쥬신Ju Shin. His father became king when his uncle, the previous king, passed on the throne to his father. Both his uncle and his father believed that he is the Ju Shin king. He was forced to confront his aunt, Hogae's mother when she tried to poison his father the king. His aunt committed suicide afterwards and from that day, the friendship between Hogae and him soured and they turned from friends and cousins to enemies. His 1st love was Kiha but it was not meant to be as kiha is a spy. He will fall in love with Sujini, who will help him with the
expansion of his empire.

수지니 Sujini - Reincarnated human form of Ju Jak or Saeo, Disciple of Hyon Go. She did not know that she was Ju Jak. Sister to Kiha but they were separated when she was a baby.The members of the Gor Mel Chon found baby Sujini in a soya bean urn (5 year old Kiha placed Sujini inside to prevent her from getting hurt from the fire) in the burnt down house. When they first saw her, there was a mark of the Ju Jak on her forehead, confirming that she was the reincarnation of Ju Jak.
Out of the fear of her turning into the black phoenix, Hyon Go's master wanted Sujini to be killed but Hyon Go insisted on bringing Sujini up and he made the promise of killing Sujini if she ever turned into the Hek Ju Jak. She was adopted into Gor Mel Chon and was brought up like a boy (almost all members of Gor Mel Chon are males). She will fall in love with DamDeok and aid him with this empire.

서기하 So Kiha - Reincarnation of Ga Jin, .
Sister to Kiha but they were separated when she is a young girl due to the violet acts of Hwa Cheon Hwe. Their family protected and sheltered the Ju Jak magical item for centuries.. Before Hwa Cheon Hwe found them, Kiha's (and sujini's) mother, gave Kiha the necklace and told her to protect her baby sister as she is the eldest.
Their mum hid them under the floorboards. Hwa Cheon Hwe killed both parents and burned down their house. 5 year old Kiha hid her baby sister in the soya bean urn to protect her. The members of the hwa cheon hwe found and took the unconscious kiha back to their head quarters as she was wearing the Ju Jak magical item, the ruby necklace. But they did not know there was another baby. She lost her memory after the fire and she was adopted into Hwa Cheon Hwe. Hwa Cheon Hwe send her into the palace to become a priestess. She fell in love with DaeDeok but their love was not meant to be as she was a spy for Hwan Cheon Hwe, and their target was to prevent the real Jushin king from taking throne.

거믈천 Gor Mel Chon - A tribe that protects the magical item of Wu Sa (Hyon Mu). The members are waiting for the real Jushin king to be born and when that day arrives, they will do their best to aid him.

화전회 Hwa Cheon Hwe - Descendants of the tiger tribe, the members believe that the world belongs to them. They will do whatever it takes to find the 4 magical items and use their powers to prevent the Jushin king from ruling.

주신 Ju Shin - 우리 (한국) 민족의 웅대한제국 Grandiose empire

신시 Shin Shi - 쥬신 제국의 수도 The capital of the Ju Shin empire

Other Characters

연호개 Yon Hogae - Cousin to Damdeok. Borned on the same day and time as DamDeok. However he was not the Ju Shin king. They were best of friends until the death of Hogae's mother. Hogae's mother was a princess and she believed that her son hogae was the rightful king. She tried to poison DamDeok's father but this was discovered by DamDeok with help from Kiha. Damdeok told his aunt that if she can find the one responsible then no harm will come to her family or her son. She took the bottle of poison and committed suicide. However, before she died, she told hogae to become king and to beware of Damdeok. Hogae kept this in mind and they turned from friends to enemies. He was secretly in love with Kiha.

대장로 Dae Jang Ro - The leader of the Hwan cheon Hwe.
주무친 Ju Mu Chin - Reincarnated, human form of Baek Ho

현고 Hyon Go - Reincarnated human form of Hyon Mu
닥단 Dak Dan - Female warrior.

Damdeok and Sujini Moments

1. Ep 10 - Kiha is supposed to meet Damdeok at a secret spot, but thanks to that evil Daejangryo, that fateful night only deepened the misunderstanding between Kiha and Damdeok. Later we see Damdeok nursing the injured Sujini and calling her name for the first time ^-^

2. Ep 12 - Sujini brought a flask of wine from the Royal Cellar and asked Damdeok to take one sip first, because "the wine is only meant for the King, but any leftover wine is free for anyone to drink" :blush: Later Damdeok made Sujini stay near him while she drinks, "so that she doesn't get drunk and go around hugging every man". [I guess it means if she gets drunk and wants to hug some man, it better be him ^-^]

3. Ep 13 - Damdeok wakes up from chestache ('cos thousand miles away Kiha was trying to kill herself and their baby) and Sujini comforts him. Then Damdeok asked Sujini to put on his armour for him and he gives her the black bottle (which I see it as his token of love for her). Love the chemistry between them in this part!!!

4. Preview of Ep 11 - with the song Approval - we see Damdeok undergoing the "Kauri (sorry dunno the correct spelling) Sword test"

2. Ep 24 - My personal most favorite scene in the entire series ^-^ Love Reunited! "From now on, my palace will be wherever you are" Kyyyaaaa :lol: That's more heart melting than saying "I Love U"~~~~~ (included in this clip is also the funny part where Jumoochi meets the feminine Sujini ^-^)

3. Ep 24 - Damdeok, Sujini & Ajik shares a heart warming moment together. Ajik is absolutely THE CUTEST KID that I've ever seen in korean dramas!!!! IMHO this is also the very last part of the drama that I would want to re-watch. The story after this is just too sad and confusing and unsatisfying

4. Ep 23 - Cheoreo remembers Sujini's request to bring wine to Damdeok; and Damdeok remembers the last time he and Sujini drank together. Sujini could only peek at Damdeok and Cheoreo from behind the walls, while all three of them suffers in silent anguish. Sad sad sad~~~

Best Newcomer - The very first award goes to our adorable Sujini ^-^
Most Popular Actor/Actress + Best Couple - Both awards won by our favorite TWSSG couple ^-^ Poor Tae Wang in crutches....he has to limp up the stage twice in a row (but still managed to look extremely handsome and regal ). Fortunately he was assisted by 2 of his 4 Gods, Chongryong and Hyonmu, both looking very handsome in suits too^-^
Best Drama - Our TWSSG got twice as many votes as Coffee Prince in 2nd place! Yay~
Final Big Award ("Tae Sang") - King Jushin received this prestigious award from King Jumong ~ how befitting~~~
Table interview - The MCs went over to the TWSSG table to chat with the cast. Philip Lee looks abit over-whelmed by the attention >.< I liked he way he tied his hair, even though some people think that hairdo looked more suitable for obasans @.@
Introduction of TWSSG by E Ji Ah - Each of the drama nominated for Best Drama category is introduced by a member from the cast. TWSSG's one is given by E Ji Ah.
Pre-Award photoshot session - Short clip showing Bae Yong Joon, E Ji Ah & Oh Kwong Rok stopping for photo shoots before they enter the hall. The dress E Ji Ah is wearing is designed by herself!!!

Annyong haseyo!

On a perfectly clear autumn day,
filming for TWSSG has finally begun.

On the Myonsanbong main set,
the entire staff is on the run as it frantically races to film
while, at the same time, tries to put the finishing touches on the main set.

The story is currently focusing on Damdeok’s early years,
and BYJ and the cast are staying in Jejudo preparing for the upcoming filming.

Monday, October 23

Because of filming within the palace,
entrance around the palace was strictly controlled.

While passing by the elegant garden in front of the palace, which is our usual habit,
we had an unexpected stroke of good luck.
Usually it’s impossible to tour the site while they’re filming
but due to special permission given by producer Kim Jong Hak,
we toured the film site while trying to restrain our fluttering emotions.

Hard at work filming were Park Sang Won in the role of Yeon Garyeo,
Dokko Yong Jae as Damdeok’s father,
Damdeok as a child, and several beautiful women who appeared to be court counsellors.

Sadly, we did not get to see Yonsama
but we were very happy to have toured the TWSSG film site.
Our Yonsama will soon start filming here; just the thought of it is exciting.

Thank you, Producer Kim Jong Hak, for giving us special permission today,
and TWSSG fighting!!

Finally Yonsama’s filming has started!!

Yonsama and his staff arrived at the film site from the early morning to begin filming.

Today’s filming was the scene where Damdeok and Sujini watch the polo contest.
Our hearts really beat fast as this was the day filming for the hero (our Yonsama),
was to take place.

Outfits for Damdeok and Sujini were common ethnic type costumes in a gray color,
which gave them a simple appearance.

Even while wearing an ethnic costume,
Yonsama is still handsome after all.

Lately, the unpredictability in weather in Jejudo has been awful.
Though it has been somewhat cold for the cast and the staff,
everyone has been busy filming despite the cold
and seeing how hard the staff was working,
Yonsama’s managers went out to buy hot green tea for them.
Maybe this will take away a little of the chill.

As always, Yonsama gave his kind smile
and waved to all the family who were at the film site.
It was a really moving experience.

Today’s filming is expected to last from early morning to late evening.
To Yonsama and everyone on the staff, please do your best!

At around 2 p.m., He didn’t wear the cap, his eyes could be seen through some brown sunglasses and wearing a red top; meanwhile, he was using a cell phone and waving at us.

His smiling face was glowing from the reflection of the sun.

There were about 40 fans, and he was practicing his horse riding.

He was wearing a black cap, a black top and bottoms, black sunglasses, and he was about 30 meters away.

He was kissing and petting the horse; and drinking from the water bottle as he wiped his mouth with the sleeve of his right arm.

In the beginning, he was holding the cord with both hands to practice walking with the cord, making the horse run quickly with just the left hand with the bridle while riding a horse with Suzinee(?). He soon got down from the horse and practiced jumping on a horse. (being fast, beautiful Yong Joon ssi!)

He changed into a red coat—probably in order to be clearly seen from a distance—and practiced shooting positions as he flew, turned and kicked; he also persistently practiced his running many times until the sun had set.

The staff handed paper cups filled with water to the families. (this was probably Yong Joon’s idea!!)

Before 6 p.m., he greeted Yoon Tae Yong, walked to the families, and made the big heart shape with both hands above his head.

He waved to the families while riding in the car. The families lined up and waived back at him.

It was a happy day.

heard that filming began early in the morning today. and they're filming the polo or gyuk goo scenes from morning to nightfall. also heard that yong joon and yun tae yong also participated in filming today.

military tents seem to have started appearing on the grounds next to the second set, i.e. the gyuk goo site. not entirely sure what the exact info or details are, but things certainly look interesting!

yong joon too joined in the filming in the morning with a healthy stance. he returned to the hotel around evening time.

as there will be filming the following day,

yong joon has been concentrating on his horseriding practice today.

30th oct 2006, monday

filming was carried out in the second filming set,

that is the gyuk goo site, today.

the scene that was filmed today:

dam deok and suzeeny had been watching the gyuk goo matches for the past few days.

then without informing anyone,

they suddenly put on helmets and hopped onto their horses

and appeared on the team to fight against their opponents.

(the question here is, so which team is dam deok on?)

maybe it's because he had worked much too hard

in training and in his horseback riding the past few days

(and had overexerted himself?),

yonsama fell off from his horse midway through filming.

his manager quickly rushed to buy some medication for him.

*bb: funny, shouldn't they have prepared a first aid kit or something on-site?

but yonsama dragged his injured leg,

and still waved at the family

who had been watching and supporting his filming from afar in the cold.

"wow, he's a professional through and through~~~~"

we couldn't help but to sigh in admiration.

the filming of the gyuk goo scenes started at 7am in the morning today.

at the filming set, we could see quite a number of well-known korean actors.

park sang won, who had appeared in the tv drama first love with yonsama,

is known as 'sojin' in japan, and he's a very famous actor.

also joined in the filming in good and healthy form today.

we're happy today,

because we're able to see many of the actors in the drama.

MBC is rearing towards historical settings which really gets a lot of viewers watching. this might be a repeat of Jumong's success. i hope this has a good plot complemented by an all-star cast.
