Jo In Seung, Lee Yeon Hee"Kwon Bob" is Jo In-Seong's return project in three years.

It is a SF product based on the future city of 2050. 3rd grade high schooler Kwon Bob (Jo In-Seong) who can't stand injustice, falls in love with a girl (Lee Yeon-hee) and has to save her village "Byeol-li".

Jo In-Seong plays the role of Kwon Bob who is a high school student full of righteousness and he becomes a couple with Ray while saving her village. He learns friendship and love at the same time and becomes a real man.

Lee Yeon-hee will play the role of Kwon Bob's lover, Ray. These mysterious girl give and takes help with Kwon Bob and let their affection grow. There were hundreds of candidates for this role but Lee Yeon-hee was chosen after thorough auditions.

"Kwon Bob" is to crank in in Septemper and Chungmuro focuses on how Jo In-Seong and Lee Yeon-hee pulls of the SF action.

Plot

With the background of Korea in the future, The Art of Fist Duel depicts how a violence-addicted man comes face-to-face with a big power, symbolized by ultra-violence, when he meets a girl living in a slum. The man Kwon-Bup (Zo In-Sung) then struggles to protect a village with the woman named named Rei (Lee Yeon-Hee).

The film is probably still going on. But I'm not sure if it'll be JIS's next project. He mentioned he's preparing for a new movie, but the little hint he gave out didn't suit Kwon Bob well. So I guess it's another movie. You can come and visit JIS's thread for those interview trans.
I'm currently working on translating an interview he did in February right before the airing of TWTWB. He mentioned a lot about Kwon Bob. So i'll probably post it here as well after I'm done.

A movie magazine editor posted on her weibo 2 hours back that “CJ Entertainment will collaborate with China Film Group Corporation for the film 'Kwon Bob'. And the male lead is In Sung oppa”
We still need further confirmation for this. But it seems legit for now. It's during the Beijing International Movie Festival. It's a signing ceremony in the photo. 

Is it Yeon Hee confirmed for this movie (since she is in another movie)?

That's so awesome. WOOT WOOT. Yay. I hope it's true and that Insung will talk about it soon. ^^ I hope he'll get some rest though before the filming of this production.

The movie, "Kwon Bob" has started its countdown at last.

Investment deals have been made by CJ Group with China Film Group and Pegasus and Taihe Entertainment in April. They are now the official investors and distributors of the movie "Kwon Bob".

30% of "Kwon Bob" is being invested by China and is aiming to be released in all areas of the country. This is the biggest Korean – Chinese collaboration yet.

CJ Group has been in the lead to make a connecting bridge between Korea and China since 2006 and has successfully hosted the Chinese Film Awards as a start.

Recently, a collaborated movie called "The Parting", plotted by CJ and directed by Oh Ki-hwan profited in more than 34 billion won and set a record for collaborated movies.

CJ E&M claims, ""Kwon Bob" means a lot as it is a sign that Korean movies are being demanded in the world of worldwide movies".

"Kwon Bob" is an SF movie about a justice man fighting for the right of a village he coincidentally comes across.

Jo In-Seong spent 2 empty years waiting for "Kwon Bob". He decided he would star in this movie in 2011 and insisted he waited for it.

Korea's CJ Entertainment Teams With China for Epic Sci-Fi Fantasy THE FIST

In what is being described as the largest ever co-production between Korea and China, CJ Entertainment have announced plans to move ahead with their long-gestating sci-fi fantasy project The Fist, with Welcome to Dongmakgol's Park Kwang-hyun at the helm.
Originally called Kwon Bob and set to go before cameras in 2011 with Jo In-sung (A Dirty Carnival) in the lead, a skittish CJ pulled the plug on the project following the disastrous performance of Sector 7 that summer. Park's project has been revived in the midst of the industry's current mini-boom and particularly following CJ's first major international success with their China-set romcom A Wedding Invitation, which scored over $30 million this Spring on the mainland alone.
China Film Group and Pegasus & Taihe will kick in $20 million, which will account for only 30% of the budget. That means the entire budget will be a hefty $67 million, which is quite a bit higher than the current record holder (Snowpiercer, $40 million) for highest budget in the Korean film industry. Showbox recently did a similar thing when the Huayi Brothers company from China financed a quarter of their Mr. Go's $25 million price tag. That film will hit screens next month.
The Fist is about a man with superhuman powers who battles injustice in a small community deep in the forest. Park made a big name for himself following his blockbuster debut Welcome to Dongmakgol (2005) which scored 8 million admissions on the Peninsula. Though that was a critically acclaimed film, it was also written and produced by Jang Jin. The last time one of Jang's proteges struck it out on his own was Ra Hee-chan, who directed Jang's wonderful Going by the Book (2007) before helming the atrocious Mr. Idol (2011). This doesn't mean Park will stumble out the gate with his sophomore film but his debut's strength may not necessarily be an indicator of his ability.
The film will be guaranteed wide distribution in both Korea and China but this seems like a big gamble for CJ, who have been aggressively pushing into the ever-expanding Chinese market. My feeling is that, just as with Sector 7, the success of Snowpiercer and Mr. Go this Summer will have a large say in determining this project's future.

China Film Group and Pegasus & Taihe Entertainment will invest $20 million in director Park Kwang-hyun's sci-fi fantasy "The Fist," which will be released simultaneously in the two Asian countries.

SEOUL – South Korean media and entertainment giant CJ E&M (formerly CJ Entertainment) announced Monday that it has secured the largest ever single-movie investment from China for its upcoming sci-fi fantasy The Fist (working title).

CJ said it signed an investment letter of intent on April 21 with China's state-backed studio and distributor China Film Group and the private production and investment company Pegasus & Taihe Entertainment.

The two Chinese companies will co-invest, co-produce, and later distribute the film nationwide in China. They will finance some 30 percent -- $20 million -- of the budget.

“The Fist is meaningful in that it presents a new model for Korean cinema’s growing influence in world cinema,” said Jung Tae-sung, head of CJ E&M’s film division. “We expect that it will introduce an unprecedented paradigm in terms of opening up a market for international funding and raising the bar for Korean blockbusters.”

Set in the future, The Fist is about a man that can’t stay quiet when he observes injustice. He ends up in a village in the deep woods and embarks to battle dark forces threatening the small community.

Park Kwang-hyun, known for the popular 2005 Korean War drama Welcome to Dongmakgol, is penning and directing the story. The film project also made headlines two years ago when it became rumored that actor Zo In-sung would be cast in the lead role -- the lead casting currently remains unconfirmed. 

Pegasus & Taihe Entertainment and CJ have previously announced a co-production partnership on the upcoming Beijing, Imperial City, a historical epic about the Chinese capital. James Cameron's Cameron Pace Group have also signed on to provide 3-D technical support and production for the film. Imax is also a partner on the project.

Korea's CJ to co-pro The Fist

Korea’s CJ Entertainment has announced a deal with China Film Group (CFG) and Pegasus & Taihe Entertainment on sci-fi fantasy project The Fist.

CJ signed a letter of intent with the two mainland China entities for investment, co-production and China distribution of The Fist.

Pegasus & Taihe Entertainment and CFG will invest 30% or more of the production costs and aim for a wide release in mainland China when the film is completed.

CJ has been running the Chinese Film Festival in Korea in cooperation with the Korean Film Council and China’s State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television (SARFT) since 2006. This year’s edition is currently underway, running from June 16-20.

The Korean company also signed an MOU in 2007 with CFG on discovering and cultivating new Chinese directors.

Most recently, CJ has seen $30m generated at the Chinese box office with Korea-China co-production A Wedding Invitation, directed by Korean filmmaker Oh Ki-hwan with a partially Korean crew on location in China.

The Fist is to be directed by Park Kwang-hyun, whose Welcome To Dongmakgol clocked up 8 million admissions in 2005.

Taking place in a future urban landscape, The Fist revolves around a man fighting to save his community from forces set to destroy it.

CJ says the film will combine fantasy, futuristic engineering elements, martial arts and a hero (called “the Fist”) who is filled with a chivalrous spirit with which the audience will be able to identify.

While the Korea-China co-production is significant at $20m, it is exceeded by Showbox/Mediaplex’s $25m Mr. Go - a Korea-China copro with Huayi Brothers.

Jo In Sung‘s latest film project, “Kwon Bob” (or “Martial Arts“) has finally kicked off!

This film is being heavily sponsored by Chinese production companies with plans of it entering the Chinese market as well. “Kwon Bob” is managed by Korea’s CJ Group, which has been making great efforts to creating a bridge between the Korean and Chinese entertainment markets.

Jung Tae Sung of CJ E&M’s Film Department commented, “This film is receiving a lot of interest around the world and will serve to become a new model in Korea’s global film market.”

“Kwon Bob” is a science fiction thriller set in a futuristic background and is about a man who can’t stand injustice and fights against those who try to destroy a certain village

Jo In Sung decided to work with “Kwon Bob” in 2011 but when the production halted, he had a two year hiatus. Even though he received a lot of other film offers, he stuck with “Kwon Bob” till the end.

“Kwon Bob” will be directed by Park Kwang Hyun, who worked on “Welcome To Dongmakgol” in 2005, which was a big hit.

Ads for a film might brag that the production has been "years in the making" but with Jo In Sung's new film, "Kwon Bob," that statement will not be an exaggeration. The actor, who was released from his military service in 2011, decided to make the film's leading character Kwon Bob his comeback role. Unexpectedly, the film's production plans ground to a halt and Jo In Sung decided to wait for them to resume.
It took two long years.
In the time that it took the film's production to be fully financed, the actor mostly busied himself with shooting commercials. He filmed up to ten commercials in that period, earning millions of dollars, but until last fall refused to sign on for any dramas or films. Finally, he felt he could wait no longer and he agreed to play the con man Oh Soo in "That Winter, The Wind Blows" with co-star Song Hye Kyo. The drama was a hit and now, fortunately, his wait for the film is over. "Kwon Bob" has finally gotten the go-ahead to start production.

It's an international collaboration. Chinese production companies are providing up to 30 percent of the film's financing with a view to showing the film in China. Production is being managed by Korea's CJ Group, which has long sought to bridge the Korean and Chinese entertainment markets.
"The film is receiving worldwide attention," said Jung Tae Sung of CJ Group. "It's a sign that there is a widespread demand for Korean movies."
Jung says the film will provide a new model for the Korean global film market.
Such collaborations have been profitable before. The film, "The Parting, which was a recent Chinese-Korean collaboration, earned a profit of more than $29 million. It set a record for collaborated movies that "Kwon Bob" hopes to improve on.

The film, which will star Jo and actress Lee Yeon Hee, is a futuristic science fiction thriller. It's about a man whose hatred of injustice prompts him to develop super powers. He falls in love with a woman and has to save the village she lives in.
Before appearing in "That Winter The Wind Blows," Jo In Sung was best known for his work in the films, "A Frozen Flower" and "A Dirty Carnival." His "Kwon Bob" co-star Lee Yeon Hee appears in "Gu Family Book" as Yun Seo Hwa. She played Yoo Kang Mi in the drama "Phantom."
Park Kwang Hyun, who directed the 2005 hit film, "Welcome to Dongmakgol" will direct "Kwon Bob."

On the same day that a long-gestating China-Korea co-production treaty was finally signed, CJ Entertainment announced plans for a new blockbuster sci-fi that will be in part financed by China. The Fist  will be the sophomore film from Welcome to Dongmakgol  (2005) director PARK Kwang-hyun.
 
Pegasus & Taihe Entertainment International and the China Film Group Corporation are set to invest 30% of the film’s reported USD 20 million price tag. CJ initially set up the project in 2011 with JO In-sung in the lead but following the disappointing performance of some of their large-scale productions at the time, the project, then known by its Korean title ‘Kwon Bob’, was put on hold.
 
JO, the star of A Frozen Flower  (2008) who recently completed his military service is still being considered for the lead role. He would play a man with supernatural powers seeking to combat injustice in a small community in the forest. Actress LEE Yeon-hui is also attached to the film.

Biography

PARK Kwang-hyun made his debut to much fanfare with <Welcome to Dongmakgol> (2005), which sold 8 million tickets in Korea. Based on a script written by the talented playwright and director [JANG Jin], the movie dealt with the pain of a divided country and peace through a story of some stray soldiers, South Korean, North Korean, and American, who find their way into a mountain village that seemingly is oblivious to a war(the Korean War) being waged in the country. It was thanks to [JANG Jin]’s witty script and PARK Kwang-hyun’s skillful directing that belies his novice status that the movie was made into a highly successful and complete piece of work. PARK’s next movie is an SF fantasy, <Hand to Hand / The Fist>, which the director has long been collaborating on with [JUNG Tae-sung], formerly of Showbox. The movie, which will cost 20 billion won, an exceptional amount of production cost for a Korean film, will combine hyper-realism and the director’s imagination on the backdrop of a futuristic city. The Korean cinema industry has rarely seen a full-fledged SF feature that deals with a future world.
