Guest Fabiola
a whole galaxy of starsLéa Seydoux By Jonathan Wingfield March 2011 Opening Night Dinner - 64th Annual Cannes Film Festival at Palais des Festivals on May 11, 2011 in Cannes, France “No one pushed me into acting,” insists Léa Seydoux, nervously tapping her elegant fingers. Born into not one but two French film dynasties (she counts Pathé and Gaumont studio bosses among her nearest and dearest), it would be easy to dismiss the screen beauty’s glowing résumé as the result of behind-the-scenes maneuvering. However, the 25-year-old Parisienne seems genuinely conflicted by her escalating presence on both sides of the Atlantic. After roles in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds and Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood, Seydoux will appear in the latest installment of Mission: Impossible, and in Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris, alongside the French first lady, Carla Bruni. (With Seydoux’s off-kilter sexiness and penchant for hair chewing, it’s not hard to imagine Allen making her his next muse, à la Scarlett Johansson.) The fact that the actress has quietly fashioned an equally successful modeling career—she is the face of Prada’s forthcoming fragrance campaign—can only increase the likelihood of her obtaining superstar status. “I basically got into all this to avoid having office hours,” Seydoux says, sighing. “I liked the idea that you’d work really hard for certain periods of time, then not do anything for ages. But it didn’t work out like that. All I ever seem to be doing is working.” Léa wearing a pink flutter sleeve Louis Vuitton dress with a smocked bodice accented with a black grosgrain belt. The star accessorized with a LV bracelet from the Fans and Umbrellas collection plus she wore a pair of LV earrings from La Malle aux Trésors collection. Pink Christian Louboutin heels with a black lace overlay and patent trim completed her look. Léa was perfectly prim for the Cannes Film Festival in an aqua tile print dress by Prada and matching Louboutin Bibi suede pumps. http://www.wmagazine.com/celebrities/2011/03/lea_seydoux_actress
Guest Fabiola
Midnight in Paris opens Cannes ‘Puss,’ ‘Panda’ add to film festival hype By DAVID GERMAIN The Associated Press Thu, May 12 - 4:54 AM CANNES, France — Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris provided just what organizers wanted to open the world’s most glamorous film festival Wednesday: Romance, fantasy, laughs and a whole lot of stars, both on screen and strutting the Cannes red carpet. Uma Thurman turned heads in a white strapless Versace gown with a low-cut back, thigh-high slit and feather accents. She accessorized with striking emerald Chopard earrings and matching bracelet. Robert De Niro, fresh from his own Tribeca Film Festival in New York and now heading the Cannes Film Festival awards jury, marched the carpet before Allen’s movie, along with fellow jurors including Uma Thurman and Jude Law. Allen was joined by Midnight in Paris cast members Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams, Adrien Brody and Michael Sheen. The film is the first Allen has shot in France. "Paris is one of my favourite places in the world," Allen said as he headed into his premiere. Among others attending the festival’s opening night were Antonio Banderas, in Cannes to show off footage for his upcoming Puss in Boots animated adventure, and wife Melanie Griffith, along with Puss in Boots co-star Salma Hayek. Capitalizing on the horde of international press at Cannes, DreamWorks Animation and Paramount Pictures brought in Banderas and Hayek for a photo event and interviews before the festival opened to promote Puss in Boots, a spinoff of the Shrek franchise. Also outside the festival proper, Jack Black, Angelina Jolie and Dustin Hoffman came to Cannes for interviews on opening day, along with a news conference a day later, for their DreamWorks animated sequel Kung Fu Panda 2. Midnight in Paris stars Wilson as a Hollywood screenwriter and wannabe novelist who pines nostalgically for the 1920s Paris of Ernest Hemingway, Gertrude Stein and F. Scott Fitzgerald. On a series of midnight strolls, he’s transported back to the city in the time of his dreams, where he learns lessons from his idols about finding your place — and time — in life. Earlier in the day, Allen said he aimed to show the city with the sort of glow he recalled from past big-screen takes on Paris. "I wanted to show the city emotionally, the way I felt about it," Allen said. "It didn’t matter to me how real it was or what it reflected. I just wanted it to be the way I saw Paris. Paris through my eyes." Midnight in Paris also features France’s first lady, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, who has a small role as a guide at the Rodin museum who helps Wilson’s character translate a French diary that is key to his journeys into the past. Opening day of the 12-day cinema showcase also featured an honorary award for Italian director Bernardo Bertolucci, whose films include 1988 Academy Award best-picture recipient The Last Emperor. http://thechronicleherald.ca/ArtsLife/1242943.html

Guest Fabiola
The Cannes Film Festival’s Golden Age For more than half a century, the Traverso family has photographed the glittering May weeks of the Cannes Film Festival, when the world’s biggest movie stars descend on the French Riviera. Now, a new book from Cahiers du cinema (distributed by Phaidon) called Cannes Cinema catalogues the family’s unique and beautiful photography in an archival look at the festival’s gilded past. Grace Kelly dances on the docks at the 1955 festival. She had entered for the George Seaton film The Country Girl, for which she won an Oscar for best actress. During this festival, she participated in a photo shoot at the Palace of Monaco and met Prince Ranier III, who would become her husband just one year later. A young Elizabeth Taylor greets sailors in Cannes. Before the imposition of contemporary celebrity culture, it was common for festival attendees to mingle with the stars, and Taylor was always willing to strike a pose with her adoring fans. In this series, from the 1955 and ’56 festivals, Brigitte Bardot, enjoys the beach. On her way to becoming a legend, the naturally gorgeous star had not yet made the films that would secure her place in cinematic history. Festival-goers would often dine at the restaurant Mère Terrat, in Mandelieu-la-Napoule, a sleepy seaside town near Cannes. In this strikingly candid photograph from 1958, Jeanne Moreau sings to diners to close lunch, a Mère Terrat tradition. Sophia Loren and Carlo Ponti enter the Palais at the 1959 festival amid a swarm of photographers. The playwright and screenwriter Marcel Achard stands behind Loren, recognizable by his trademark glasses. Legendary French novelist, poet, playwright, artist, and filmmaker Jean Cocteau greets actress Gina Lollobrigida at the festival in 1954. That year Cocteau served as president of the jury, a position he would hold three times during his life. http://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/features/2011/05/cannes-cinema-slide-show-201105#intro
Guest Fabiola
De Niro honours newcomers at Cannes First posted: Sunday, May 15, 2011 9:55:35 EDT AM Robert De Niro honoured newcomers Astrid Berges-Frisbey and Niels Schneider by handing them prizes for emerging talent at the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday. Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey poses with her trophy as she attends the Chopard Trophy Prize Giving Ceremony during the 64th Cannes Film Festival on May 14, 2011 The Taxi Driver icon, who is leading the jury at the 2011 film showcase in France, presented the pair with the prestigious Chopard Trophy at a ceremony at the Hotel Martinez. French-Spanish actress Berges-Frisbey was moved to tears as she gushed, "It's already a real gift to get an award, and to get it from these hands..." Schneider admitted he thought he was being pranked when he was informed of the honour two months ago. He tells the Associated Press, "They told me on April 1 and it's such a huge award, I was sure it was an April Fools prank. It's an honour, but also really a lot of pressure, given the list of winners." Past recipients include Marion Cotillard, Amelie star Audrey Tautou and Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal. http://www.torontosun.com/2011/05/15/de-niro-honours-newcomers-at-cannes

Guest Fabiola
Bar Refaeli: Chopard Chick Posted Tuesday May 17, 2011 7:52 AM GMT Bar highlighted her decolleté by layering a 46-carat oval diamond necklace with a long fancy-shaped diamond necklace, both set in 18-karat white gold. She’s always up for a good time, and last night (May 16) Bar Refaeli was spotted at Chopard’s “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” party in Cannes, France. The newly-single Israeli supermodel looked stunning in a shiny blue strapless dress teamed with a pair of super-high black heels. Bar Refaeli is always a stunner. Of course, these 69-carat brilliant-cut diamond chandelier earrings, set in titanium, don't hurt either. http://celebrity-gossip.net/bar-refaeli/bar-refaeli-chopard-chick-506394
Guest Fabiola
Milla Jovovich looks stunning in this Great Gatsby-esque dress by Prada Jodie Foster in Balenciaga at the Melancholia premiere. The satin frock was flowy and elegant and contrasted nicely with the gold chain detailing and clutch she carried. Charlotte Gainsbourg in a really, really sheer black wrap dress over a lace bra. Charlotte Gainsbourg comes from a very famous family. Her father was Serge Gainsbourg, the singer-songwriter and French national treasure. And her mother is none other than actress/singer Jane Birkin, yes the namesake of the Birkin bag. Charlotte Gainsbourg is currently expecting her third child and VERY much showed off her baby bump. Guest Fabiola
Kirsten shines at Cannes By Emily Cronin | Posted: Thu 19 May 2011 Kirsten Dunst reminded us why she’s a movie star on the Cannes red carpet last night. The Eternal Sunshine star (sorry, still our favourite Dunst film) wore a Rodarte polka-dotted fishtail chiffon gown with an evergreen wool bodice to the Melancholia premiere. It’s not the first time Dunst has supported friends Kate and Laura Mulleavy. She attends the sister-designers’ shows regularly and wears their clothes to as many red-carpet occasions as she can. She paired last night’s design from the A/W ’11 collection with diamond earrings and an emerald cuff. Earlier in the day, Dunst donned a marigold chiffon Chloe dress for the Melancholia photo call. The press conference ahead of the film’s premiere took a bizarre turn when director Lars von Trier responded to a question about his German background by saying, ‘I’m a Nazi’ and that he ‘understands Hitler.’ Dunst, sitting white-faced next to the provocative director, attempted to intervene by leaning over and whispering, ‘Oh my god, this is terrible,’ but von Trier carried on. The moderator curtailed the press conference early and von Trier later issued an apology. And the film? Some critics have said it features a career-defining performance from Dunst... we'll wait and see. http://www.elleuk.com/news/star-style-news/kirsten-shines-at-cannes/(gid)/766821 Charlotte Rampling on the red carpet for "Melancholia" at the 64th Cannes Film Festival. Guest Fabiola
Milla Jovovich Is A Golden Goddess In Cannes Posted on Fri May 20, 2011 03:15 PM PDT Milla Jovovich looked gorgeous in a liquid gold dress, as she made her way to the 2011 amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala in Antibes, France Thursday evening. But the model/actress wasn't just another pretty face in the exclusive A-list crowd. Jovovich performed at the event, which raised $10 million for AIDS research this year. We had no idea she was a budding songstress! And it sounds like Jovovich is making a weekend vacation out of her trip to Cannes, and taking a break from Twitter to enjoy the festivities. The Resident Evil star expressed to her followers: "Well guys, I'm signing off 4 a few days! My family weekend break has officially began. If the zombies come, remember break their necks or shoot them in the head. Good luck tweeps! Xo m" Elton John's annual Cinema Against AIDS events began in 1993 and has raised nearly $60 million for lifesaving AIDS research since it's start. This year the benefit was held in honor of the late Elizabeth Taylor, a dear friend of John's, and a pioneer for AIDS awareness and research. http://www.x17online.com/celebrities/milla_jovovich/milla_jovovich_cannes_france_resident_evil_aids_elton_john_052011.php
