::: SYNOPSIS

.....

Jun Sul-Hee plays the wife of the youngest partner at Korea’s top law firm and the daughter-in-law to a distinguished judge. In her high school days she ruled her neighborhood, but in order to support her younger sister she began working at a law firm as a clerk, where she lured a promising young lawyer and married him. However, after being looked down upon and treated poorly by her husband’s family, she takes on her well-to-do in-laws and files for divorce. Afterward, she embarks on a new life by rediscovering her talent in music; she’d once been a “legendary” singer of a rock band in high school, and now sets out to form a new group.

• The drama title is pun. 나는 전설이다 means I Am Legend (나는 na-neun- I전설 jun-sul - legend 이다 i-da - verb to be am), but can also be read as I Am Jun Suri (나는 na-neun- I전설이 jun-suri Jun Suri 다 da - verb to be am). The main character's name is 전설희 (Jun Sul-Hee), but is read as (jun-su-ri).

A year after her last drama, the successful SBS series City Hall, Kim Sun-ah is returning in a new drama, I Am Legend [나는 전설이다]. The title is a pun on her character’s name, which is the word for “legend” (kdramas really love name-title puns, don’t they?).

Kim Sun-ah as a rock star? Rawr! Heck yeah, I see it.

Kim has famously played some free, open-spirited personalities (My Name Is Kim Sam-soon, City Hall), but as the daughter-in-law of a prestigious family, this character will show the actress’s own sexy and refined side, as well as her hitherto-unheard singing skills.

The series is a Wednesday-Thursday drama for SBS, directed by PD Kim Hyung-shik (Surgeon Bong Dal-hee) and written by Kim Yoon-jung (When a Man Loves, Star’s Echo). The production is currently casting her male lead, with whom she’ll have a romantic storyline after her divorce.

Divorced-woman-turns-rock-star drama I Am Legend has secured Kim Sun-ah in the lead role as a woman who rediscovers her talent for music and becomes the lead singer of a band. Now Jang Shin-young, the 28-year-old actress of drama Winter Bird and the upcoming movie The Outlaw, will join her as the band’s manager and drummer.

The group is described as a collection of ajummas — but one look at either Kim Sun-ah or Jang Shin-young proves that we’re not dealing with typical ajummas here. The focus of the drama will be on showing how the members use music as their outlet for dealing with their personal pains and grow as people. The band is called “Jeon-seol’s Band,” which, like the drama’s title, can be read as wordplay to also mean “Legendary Band.” (It’s not clear whether that’s the band’s actual name or if it’s just a nickname at this point.)

Jang Shin-young has reportedly always had an interest in playing the drums and already possesses drumming skills. The drama will take over from Prosecutor Princess on SBS, and will premiere in June.

I am Legend will be great, because it is in good hands:

Director - Kim Hyung Shik 김형식 (Cain and Abel; Surgeon Bong Dal Hee; Lovers in Prague - with Director Shin Woo Chul)

Scriptwriter - Kim Yoon Jung 김윤정 (When a Man is in Love; Star's Echo).

I'm optimistic the Director and Scriptwriter together will deliver a wonderful drama.

First the writer: I watched Star's Echo a while back and am at the moment into ep. 6 of WAMIL. I like BOTH series!!! The two series have a very dream-like, magical feel about them, like watching a movie. Star's Echo is a short series, so maybe is not a good comparison. However, I find the story of WAMIL very engaging, fast paced, with breathtaking twists and turns. Only into ep. 6, remember? It is a drama that makes me hate going to sleep at night and look forward to as soon as I wake up. It's a drama I think about while doing my day chores. And the best part - the male leads in both series are EYE CANDY! I don't think they are A-list actors, but the acting's good enough, and the eye candy makes up for any slack, A LOT.

The Director: I like how the three series he's handled are executed. Slick. Action packed. Great pace. LIP also had a dream like, magical, quality about it.

So, what do we have? An engaging, fast paced story with lots of twists and turns. Soft, magical, dream-like background for the love story. Eye candy. Slick execution. Hot rock stars. AND KIM SUNAH!!

From the two dramas scripted by the writer, and from what we already know, looks like IAL is a Romance or Melodrama. It doesn't sound like a romantic comedy at all.
