Synopsis:
Legend has it that more than 2000 years ago, the Kingdom of Nangnang possessed a mystical Ja Myung Drum (Ja Myung Go) which will sound by itself when enemies invade. In reality, Ja Myung Go does not represent the drum but instead, is embodied by the King's daughter, Princess Ja Myung. Princess Ja Myung and Princess Nak-Rang are born on the same day and time to the same father but different mothers. It is predicted that one princess will become the nation's savior while the other will bring the entire nation down.

Using her family's powerful background, Princess Nak-Rang's mother successfully establishes her daughter as the savior princess while Princess Ja Myung, who is branded the princess of destruction, escapes death with the help of her mother and grows up among the common folk. When she learns of her true identity, Princess Ja Myung returns to her Kingdom, resulting in a new wave of internal politics and power struggles.

Princess Ja Myung and Prince Hodong of the rival state of Goguryeo fall in love but fate has it that they cannot be together. Princess Nak-Rang, who is also in love with the Prince, willingly gives her nation up to him by destroying her Kingdom's mystical war drum. Princess Ja Myung, fighting to save her nation, finally pierces her sword towards her beloved Prince Hodong...

Ja Myung (Jung Ryeo Won)/ Daughter of Nangnang's First Lady

"Fate, please leave me. I don't wish to be a princess, neither do I wish to find the parents who abandoned me. What does my home nation mean to me? Why must the lives of 340,000 citizens be placed on my shoulders? If possible, I want to be like my sister Ra Hee, who is loved and has the freedom to love. I want to be Hodong's lover and live the rest of my life with him. But...if that is not possible and if this is not the path I should take, then fate, please bestow on me a heart of stone so that I am able to pierce my sword towards Hodong."

She is the daughter of Nangnang's King Chae Ri and first lady Mo Ha So, the rightful heir to the throne but her life is governed by fate. Although she is a princess and has found her love, fate does not allow this young girl to experience the sweetness of love. Because she is Ja Myung Go, the heroic savior of her nation. Heroes need to go through obstacles; fate bestows a tough life on her, life brings her strength and determination. The harsh realities of life and the passion to live sparks a fiery life path for her as she burns like fire flames. She is born on the same day as Princess Nangnang but because of a single prediction and a ruthless scheme, is forced to live a tough life.

Princess Rahee (Park Min Young)/ Daughter of Nangnang's Second Lady

"Ja Myung, how dare you mention about the people to me? When you were growing up in a circus troop and surviving on street tricks and entertainment, I was already studying the art of governing Nangnang. Just like how the the direction of a waterfall cannot be reversed, Goguryeo is the tyrant of the north and to live under their rule is Nangnang's fate. I am destined to destroy Nangnang since 10, 20 years ago. Please do not stand in my way. I love Hodong, hence, no matter how unscrupulous I am, I am just a woman who yearns to live a life filled with love. Is that a sin? Ja Myung, don't you think the same way?"

Ra Hee, born on the same day as Ja Myung, is the daughter of Nangnang's King Chae Ri and second lady Wang Ja Shi. Nangnang's prophet predicted, "One child will become the nation's savior while the other will destroy the nation and lead its citizens to their deaths." Ra Hee is more fortunate than Ja Myung because she has a mother with a powerful background. Under her mother's directions, she is identified as the savior princess and receives unlimited love from her parents and her people. An alluring woman whose beauty is comparable to the most delicate of flowers.

Hodong (Jung Kyung Ho)/ Son of Goguryeo's King Daemusin

"My life revolves around three women. My mother, Ja Myung, the woman in my heart, and Ra Hee, the woman I made use of. My mother is the princess of an enemy state. Ja Myung, why must you also be the princess of a nation Goguryeo aims to conquer? I really ought to be dead for betraying my mother and hurting Ja Myung so deeply. Even though I know it's unscrupulous, I have no choice but to make use of Ra Hee's naivety to survive. Why must I do this? Because I am son of the great Daemusin, because I am fated to be King, because I can survive without love but I can't survive without power."

As dashing and charming as his name suggests, he is the son of Goguryeo's third ruler, King Daemusin. An intelligent man and an excellent strategist. Like his ancestors, he is skilled in everything from horse riding to archery and has been hailed as the reincarnation of Jumong. He respects his father Moo Hyul and is determined to transform Goguryeo into a strong nation. Hence, he made a promise and strives to conquer Nangnang. Although he is Moo Hyul 's eldest son, his mother is a concubine from another state and the lack of a powerful maternal background puts him at a disadvantage. When Song Maesolsoo, a royal decedent of Goguryeo becomes Moo Hyul 's queen, Hodong is thrown into a dark struggle regarding who will succeed Daemusin. Before the Queen's son becomes the official successor to Goguryeo's throne, Hodong was originally the crown prince, but due to his complicated maternal background, faced problems retaining his title.

Wang Hol (Lee Joo Hyun)/ Nangnang's Chief General

"Ja Myung, before I met you, I didn't believe in fate, which I thought was just a flowery name for choice and wishes. But fate went against my wishes and brought you to me. As head of the Wang family, my older sister Queen Wang Ja Shi ordered me to kill you but I cannot even bring myself to hurt a single strand of your hair. I will tear whenever I see you, because you are too beautiful, because your life is too pitiful and because my love for you cannot be expressed. Rather than to see you die or watch you fall in love with Hodong, I would rather die in your hands."

He is Wang Ja Shi's younger brother and Princess Nangnang's uncle. A skilled militarist and head of Nangnang's army. A two-faceted person who is sometimes cold and unfeeling but sometimes unable to control his feelings. He indulges in wine, women and entertainment and puts in all effort to crack ancient codes. Yearning to see his master, he travels all the way to Luo Yang. Although skilled in martial arts, spearing tactics, swordplay and archery, he is also well-versed in art and poetry. Sincerely dotes on his niece, Ra Hee and passes all his martial arts knowledge to her.

I can't imagine RyuWon in a hanbok because she look so modern.

I'm excited though, because I just love sageuks that focus on women. The last one I watched with a woman as the main focus was YuhInCheunAh.

I too am interested in seeing how RW looks like in a hanbok! Hopefully she plays an interesting character, can't wait for more news to be released, i really miss seeing her in serials!

wow how brave is JRW going to act in historical drama? But i think actors need to improve by taking different dramas right? So i totally support her decision and the girl who acted in the korean ghose story?

Park Min Young & Jung Ryeo Won Casted For Princess Ja Myung-go

Park Min Young and Jung Ryeo Won could be playing as sisters of an ancient kingdom known as Nangnang-guk in the 50 episode saeguk drama “Princess Ja Myung-go” scheduled for broadcast on SBS television in February 2009.

Park Min Young has been casted as Princess Nangnang while Jung Ryeo Won has been casted as her elder sister, Princess Ja Myung-go.

“Princess Ja Myung-go” is based loosely on a historical Korean love story (recorded in Samguk Sagi and other texts) between Princess Nangnang and Prince Hodong of Goguryeo. Nangnang-guk had mystical wardrums that would sound in advance when rival nations attack them. Numerous attempts by Goguryeo to invade Nangnang-guk was thwarted. Goguryeo wanted to conquer Nangnang-guk as it was a buffer nation between them and Buyeo.

Prince Hodong was thus sent undercover into Nangnang-guk to destroy the wardrums. But he meets Princess Nangnang and falls in love with her. Goguryeo soon mounted another invasion and for her love, Princess Nangnang destroyed the wardrums enabling Goguryeo to conquer Nangnang-guk with ease. But in the aftermath of the battle, Princess Nangnang perished, dying in the arms of a grieving Prince Hodong as their love was never fulfilled. Princess Ja Myung-go who also has a tragic love story will be revealed in the drama.

Both Ryeo Won and Park Min Young went through the scripts on the 29th of last month at SBS Ilsan production center and gave positive reviews. But they have not decided or confirm on their participation yet with the production.

It's will be airing on SBS and both JRW and PMY have not confirmed yet to choose this drama but hopefully they will be agree soon :sweatingbullets:.

waa! i just saw the WIKI page of the drama! and i saw the synopsis, i must say.. the drama would be interesting! this would be one of my MUST WATCH DRAMAS!! :D

I don't understand that synopsis above. It makes it seem like the central love story is between Princess NangNang and Prince HoDong, and ParkMinYoung is playing Princess NangNang. But isn't the main character Princess JaMyungGo? WHAT ABOUT THE STORY OF RYUWON?!

And NangNang-guk is the name of their kingdom? Is Princess NangNang named after NangNang-guk? Haha~~

Someone explain!

By the way, Prince HoDong makes me think of KangHoDong in a crown. =P
