SYNOPSIS :

500 Years Ago in the Chosun Dynasty

The Pipe of the prophecy has fallen into the evil hands of the goblins, propelling the world into a whirlwind of disorder. The ancient Taoist wizards turn to the greatest ascetics of their time, the Master and Hwadam for help in vanquishing the goblins and trust each wizard with one half of the Pipe. Meanwhile, the Master’s rascal student Jeon Woo Chi tricks the king with the art of transformation and creates a fiasco, which makes the three Taoist wizards and Hwadam visit the Master. But the Master has been murdered and his half of the Pipe is missing! By taking his master’s pipe out to the market streets, Jeon Woo Chi has been pushed into a corner, ultimately getting sealed into a painting along with his trusty dog, Chorangyi.

Seoul, 2009 - A Goblin-Catching Wizard Is Now a Legend

For some strange reason, goblins that had been sealed up in the past begin to appear one by one and reek havoc on the world. The three Taoist wizards had been enjoying their years of retirement as a priest, a monk, and a shaman. However, they are now brought together in a search for Hwadam, who is nowhere to be found after going into training over five hundred years ago. After much discussion, the three wizards seek a certain picture scroll in display at the museum. They unseal it and call forth Jeon Woo Chi and Chorangyi. Being offered freedom in return for catching the goblins, Jeon Woo Chi sets out on his task. What began as a hunt for goblins slowly turns into Jeon Woo Chi’s personal sightseeing expedition of the modern day world. To top it off, he meets a woman with the same face as the one that had captivated him so many centuries back. He begins his adventure and the quest for Seo In-kyung, his new, yet old love. When Hwadam finally appears in front of the wizards because of Jeon Woo Chi, it is only to reveal where he has hidden the other half of the prophesized Pipe.

Movie is inspired by a Korean novel 전우치전(田禹治傳).

Character from that novel set in Chosun era but 500 years later.

Movie genre is fantasy action, fighting with 妖怪, etc.

Dong-won Kang & Su-jeong Lim to star in Action / Fantasy piece “Jeon Woo-chi” (Story of Jeon Woo-chi)

Actor Dong-won Kang and actress Su-jeong Lim have signed on to star in a new action/fantasy film “Jeon Woo-chi” (literal title “Story of Jeon Woo-chi”). The film will be directed by Dong-hun Choi ( Tazza: The High Rollers & The Big Swindle ). Other actors cast in the film are Yun-seok Kim (The Chaser) and familiar acting vet Hae-jin Yu.

In the film, Dong-won Kang plays main character Jeon Woo-chi. His character was born over 500 years ago, but became imprisoned in a portrait. To break free and walk the earth again he makes a pact to capture the “manpaseokjeok” (a musical instrument that gives magical powers), before rival Hwa-dam (Yun-seok Kim) is able to do so. Meanwhile, it seems Jeon Woo-chi is more of a lover than a hero and he becomes enraptured with In-kyeong Seo (Su-jeong Lim), a budding actress and possibly someone he loved many centuries ago.

“Jeon Woo-chi Jeon” begins filming in August.

CHOI Dong-hoon casts LIM Soo-jung and GANG Dong-won

CHOI Dong-hoon, the director of the major hit films Tazza: The High Rollers and The Big Swindle is preparing his next project with the assistance of LIM Soo-jung and GANG Dong-won.

GANG is set to play an undisciplined womanising Taoist from the Joseon era (the name of Korea previous to the Japanese occupation) who ends up in present day Korea, causing mayhem with his knack for magic. LIM will play a double role, portraying a Joseon woman and an aspiring actress in contemporary times.

KIM Yoon-suk will reunite with CHOI after their collaboration on Tazza:The High Rollers, KIM will be fighting against GANG’s character. KIM is currently highly successful with his leading role in NA Hong-jin’s The Chaser.

CHOI is also responsible for the scenario and will start directing from August. The film will enter cinemas in 2009.

CHOI Dong-hoon's Comic Fantasy: Jeon Woo Chi

Director CHOI Dong-hoon, who made a splash in the local film industry with his high stakes thrillers, The Big Swindle (2004) and Tazza: The High Rollers(2006), is currently in pre-production on his latest project, tentatively titled Jeon Woo Chi. The big budget US$12 million production now has three quarters of its financing secured and will participate in the Pusan Promotion Plan (PPP) a major project pre-market during the 13th Pusan International Film Festival.

Highly successful producer LEE Eugene (You Are My Sunshine, Voice of a Murder) and her shingle Zip Cinema will produce the project with financial backing from CJ Entertainment and United Pictures. The star cast includes GANG Don-won (M) as the title character Jeon, LIM Soo-jung (Happiness), and KIM Yun-seok (The Chaser).

The story begins in the Chosun Dynasty in 1509 and involves a trio of Taoist wizards, a magician named Jeon Woo Chi (GANG) and his dog, a corrupt king, evil goblins, and a prophetic pipe everyone is after. Jumpingahead to the year 2009, the wizards are called out of peaceful retirement as goblins start appearing in modern Korea to wreak havoc all around. The trio call on Jeon who has been trapped in a painting for 500 years in order to save the day. Yet, Jeon, a kind of anti-superhero, is more interested in sight-seeing and romance.

The production will shoot this Fall with a release date planned for the summer of 2009.

<<KHJ's anticipation even in just a few scenes as a charming woman in a present year is pretty interesting!... I believe DW and KHJ will work well in the latest film after they first met in Magic.. ^__^
