Singer Turtleman Found Dead in Home

Turtleman, frontman of the pop trio Turtles (Geobugi), passed away after a heart attack, Wednesday morning. The 37-year-old, whose real name is Im Sung-hoon, was already dead when his manager found him around 2:30 p.m. in his home in Kumho-dong, Seoul.

``Im didn't have any schedule booked for Tuesday. When his manager went to visit him Wednesday afternoon, he didn't answer the phone or the door,'' said Im's management agency Boogie Entertainment, according to Yonhap News. ``The manager called a key repairman and entered his home. He appeared to be asleep in his bed. But Im didn't wake up or seem to be breathing, so he called the ambulance.''

Im was transferred to a nearby hospital and autopsy results suggested that he had been dead for five to six hours. Measuring 1.7 meters tall and weighing 98 kilograms, the overweight rapper had been hospitalized in 2005 for the same heart condition. He had taken measures to lose weight and lead a healthier lifestyle. Im's father also died from heart complications in his sleep, according to Boogie Entertainment.

A funeral hall was set up in Soon Chun Hyung University Hospital in Hannam-dong, central Seoul. Im's fellow band members Ji-i and Geum-bi were reported as mourning the loss, and entertainers such as rapper Kim Chang-ryeol, singer Hwang Bo and comedian Lee Young-ja paid visits. ``I can't believe it,'' his devastated mother was quoted as saying by Yonhap News.

Since debuting in 2002, the group has released seven singles and albums. In 2006 Turtles won the grand prize at the Seoul Music Awards. The team was promoting their fifth album.

Biography

The Turtles are a three-member hip-hop group that consists of a male rapper (Turtleman), a female rapper (Z-E) and a female lead vocalist (Geumbi).

The band debuted in 2001 with the hip-hop song, “Four Seasons.” The Turtles’ second album was released in 2003, with its title song, “Come On,” gaining great popularity. The group boasts a unique style of energetic and cheerful music with catchy, sing-a-long melodies. The members are well known for always singing live on stage. The group’s male rapper, Turtleman, composed, wrote and produced all the songs on the second studio album. Turtleman suffered from some health problems, but he overcame them and appeared on stage again with new songs from the Turtles’ third album, which also gained a good response from fans.

The single "Airplane" from their fourth album topped the KBS chart in September, 2006.

Turtle Man Dies of Heart Attack

Rapper Turtle Man (real name Im Seong-hoon) of pop trio Turtles (Geobugi) died of a heart attack early Wednesday morning. He was found by his manager, who came to check up on him when he didn’t answer his phone. Turtle Man’s management agency announced that he apparently passed away in his sleep around 2 o’clock in the morning.

Turtle Man had collapsed in April 2005 after complaining of chest pains and difficulty in breathing. He was rushed to a hospital and underwent an emergency heart surgery. He was released after a month-long stay in the hospital, but had to receive another surgery in October 2005.

Nonetheless, the group Geobugi came back in 2006 with their fourth album “Buy a Turtle” and earned wide recognition with their hit “Airplane.” Geobugi’s other hits include “Bingo” and “Four Seasons.” Turtle Man’s funeral will take place on Friday and his remains will be rested in the same place where the remains of actresses Lee Eun-joo and Jung Da-bin are kept.

Singer dead of heart attack at 38

SEOUL, April 2, (Yonhap) -- Im Seong-hoon, the leader of a popular three-member band called the Turtles, died of a heart attack on Tuesday, according to hospital officials on Wednesday.

The 38-year-old singer's manager found Im at his Seoul home at about 3 p.m. on Wednesday and carried him to a nearby hospital where a doctor confirmed him dead on the previous day. The singer, better known by his stage name, "Turtleman," underwent surgery following a heart attack in 2006.

Turtleman died of heart attack

Tutleman (Lim Sung Hoon, 38), the leader of the trio Turtle, suddenly died at home this afternoon, April 2.

“Turtleman suddenly died in his house in Geumho-dong. According to police’s legal medical doctor who examined him, Turtleman suffered a myocardial infarction [or more commonly referred to as heart attack]. He seems to have died in sleep,” announced Turtle’s camp.

Turtleman was operated in 2005 due to a heart attack.

Turtles Member Dies of Heart Attack

3-member pop group Turtles' leader, "Turtle Man" (Lim Sung Hoon), has died due to a heart attack.

Lim's manager went to Lim's house at about 2:30 pm (Korea time) today, and found him without a pulse. Lim's manager said that they had an appearance scheduled, but that Lim wouldn't pick up his phone and his house was locked. "I got a locksmith to get the door open and I saw him laying on his bed; I assumed he was sleeping," said the manager. But when Lim wouldn't wake up, he realized that Lim wasn't breathing and called an ambulance. The hospital said that Lim had died about 5~6 hours before he was found.

Many singers in the industry came to his funeral including the two female members of Turtles, DJ DOC's Kim Chang Ryul, Hwang Bo, Go Young Wook, and many others. His mother showed much devastation due to his sudden death, as did everyone.

Turtleman's last interview: "I don't know when I will collapse but I want to sing"

Turtleman (38) was found in his apartment on the afternoon of April 2nd not breathing. The police who confirmed that he was dead had no doubt that the myocardial infarction he had been suffering from caused a heart attack that ultimately caused his death.

Turtleman collapsed in April 2005 and underwent several surgeries.

Although he resumed performing after his surgeries, in an interview last year, he said "I don't know when I will collapse but I want to sing. Although it might be strange, I make each album hoping it won't be my last."

Myocardial infarction is a serious disease where you need to lay down for at least 3 months after the surgeries.

"If I followed all that the hospital asked me to do, I would be laying down not moving, but even if this is more dangerous than spending my life waiting for a meaningless disease to pass, I want to go out and do music."

The song in their 4th album, "Airplane", was a song that he thought of while lying in bed after the surgery.

"When I was lying down after the surgery, I thought of the melody. After I got out of the hospital, I sat down and wrote it down."

With the surgeries, Turtleman continued to make happier music. Even though he didn't know when his life would end, he kept up the upbeatness and happiness of his music.

In the album "OhBangGaDa", the song Sing La La portrays a happy life. Even though he has passed, his music will be cherished by fans for a long time.
