Article: [Exclusive] Scriptwriter Lee Woo Jung, rumors 'arise' about her making a public broadcast drama debut

Source: Star News via Naver

Scriptwriter of '1N2D', 'Grandpa Over Flowers', 'Nuna Over Flowers', 'Reply' drama series.

1. [+161, -13] I wonder if the public broadcast channels are feeling the competition ㅋㅋㅋ This scriptwriter is so busy... and the top drama channel is tvN now ㅋㅋ They've been putting out some top quality stuff since 'Nine'. KBS really needs to step it up and reflect over their own dramas like Aurora.

2. [+115, -6] When you look at the dramas she's produced... you can tell that she values human relationships. Public broadcast dramas these days are only focused on makjang elements, they should all be kicked off the job.

3. [+103, -4] Well having her will guarantee attention + public viewership since she has so many hit works.

4. [+79, -24] I prefer this scriptwriter to The Heirs Kim Eun Sook scriptwriter!!! Her script is so embarrassing ㅡㅡ.. "Do I like you?" Aigoo... ㅡㅡ

5. [+39, -0] Her work has no place in public broadcast because she doesn't use chaebol or makjang stories.

1. [+552, -21] I don't think 'Reply' as a drama would've retained what made it so popular in public broadcast.

2. [+403, -9] Just stay in cable with Shin Won Ho ㅠㅠ

3. [+395, -9] Dramas like 'Reply' and 'I Need Romance' were stories that were only possible because they were aired on cable. Public broadcast would've stripped their core elements and turned them Reply into a boring generational drama and Romance a drama about three average women.

4. [+25, -5] I want the 'Nine' scriptwriter to go over to public broadcast... Nine was just... the bomb.

5. [+10, -7] I think she needs to be able to capture all of the public if she wants to make the move... My friends have all watched the Reply series but not our parents.

Producer Shin Won Ho and writer Lee Woo Jung to possibly make a third 'Reply' series?

Producer Shin Won Ho and writer Lee Woo Jung of the popular 'Reply 1997' and 'Reply 1994' series are joining hands once again for a third and new production -- however, it is not yet confirmed that this will be a third installment of the 'Reply' series.

Regarding these reports flying about tvN said, "It is true that Producer Shin Won Ho and writer Lee Woo Jung of the 'Reply' series have entered plans for a new production. However, we are not sure that this production will be the third season to 'Reply'.  They are currently recruiting assistant writers, and they are just saying they're looking for assistant writers to 'Reply' season three as it's an easier way to express that this is the third production for which Producer Shin Won Ho and writer Lee Woo Jung are working together.'"

Producer Shin Won Ho directly told OSEN, "It is true that we are currently planning a new piece of work and gathering a team.  However, we never had a conference about a 'Reply' season three and we have not yet decided if the production we're preparing right now might be 'Reply 3' or another production."

Regardless, it seems like the two are definitely giving a thought to continuing the nostalgia-evoking show that has gained so much love. Meanwhile, both 'Reply' series have been incredibly successful with 'Reply 1994' ending just last year. Although people worried about the 'sequel jinx' in which the follow-up never does as well as the original, 'Reply 1994' proved these worries to have been for naught.  However, will a third season be pushing it?

Would you like a third 'Reply' season?  And if so, in what year do you think it should take place?

Following the successes of ‘Reply 1997′ and ‘Reply 1994‘ previously, the much anticipated third ‘Reply’ series is reportedly in the works according to the producer of the drama series, Shin Won Ho.

Shin Won Ho said, “The team members are currently researching ideas for the next series. No one knows for sure whether it will take place in 1988 or 2002. There’s also a possibility that we could simply push away all our present ideas, and go for other themes.”

The producer added, “The discussions have come to a standstill, and a different story idea might come up when we meet the next time. There’s still a year to go, so we are really grateful for all the attention that we are getting.”

CJ E&M said on the morning of October 6th, “Producer Shin Won Ho and writer Lee Woo Jung are indeed preparing something new, but nothing has been confirmed as yet. The drama’s name ‘Reply 1998′ is just one of the many ideas that came up during meetings. The broadcast date and concept are still in the discussion phase.”

‘Reply 1994′ which was aired in the latter half of 2013, garnered mass popularity with viewers, and it obtained a 11.9 percent rating for its last episode which was an incredible achievement for a drama airing on cable television. The rating also made ‘Reply 1994′ the first cable drama series to go past the 10 percent barrier. The careers of the ‘Reply 1994′ cast members like Jung Woo, Go Ara, Yoo Yeon Seok, Kim Sung Kyun, Son Ho Jun, B1A4′s Baro, and Tiny-G’s Min Do Hee have also changed remarkably for the better in the aftermath.

With the back-to-back successes of ‘Reply 1997′ and ‘Reply 1994′ by producer Shin Won Ho and writer Lee Woo Jung, many are looking forward to seeing whether they will make it a hat trick with their next ‘Reply’ drama series.
