Song Kang-ho as Joseon king in Lee Jun-ik’s next filmby girlfriday | April 4, 2014

SongKangHo1.jpg

This is a match-up that looks exciting: director Lee Jun-ik (The King and the Clown) is coming back to sageuk for his next film this coming year, and Song Kang-ho (The Attorney) has signed on to star. They’ve each had a stellar 2013 at the box office, with the sensitive family melodrama Wish (also called Hope) for director Lee, and back-to-back hits The Face ReaderSnowpiercer, and The Attorney for Song Kang-ho.

Yoo Ah-in, Moon Geun-young join Joseon-era film Sadoby awcoconuts | May 8, 2014

MoonGeunYoung_YooAhIn1.jpg

This lineup has me sold, already. Yoo Ah-in (Secret Love Affair) and Moon Geun-young(Goddess of Fire Jung-yi) have joined the period film Sado, which will be helmed by sageuk film pro Lee Jun-ik (Like the Moon Escaping From Clouds). As previously noted, veteranSong Kang-ho (The Attorney) has been cast in the role of King Yeong-jo — he’s been working at such a breakneck place he had actually planned to take a short break, but when he received the call from Lee Jun-ik, he couldn’t turn the project down.

Actress Moon Geun Young and actor Yoo Ah In are contemplating whether to star in the movie "Sah Do." Moon Geun Young was offered the role of Ms. Hong, the wife of Prince Sa Do, and Yoo Ah In was offered the role of Prince Sah Do. Yoo Ah In's agency said, "Yoo Ah In is taking his time making decisions to star in Sah Do after his latest movie Veteran."

On May 8, 2014, Moon Geun Young's agency said in an interview, "Recently, actress Moon Geun Young was offered a role to star in the movie Sah Do, and she is going over the scripts right now. Because this will be her latest role in the movies in a long time, she is taking her time deciding if this would be the right movie. She also had offers from other dramas and movies." If she decides to star in Sah Do, this would make her comeback to the movies in eight years since the 2006 film "I Do Not Need Love."

"Sa Do" is a historical movie that tells a story of Prince Sah Do. Director Lee Joon Yik of the "King and the Clown" and "Wishes" is to film the movie, and actor Song Kang Ho is to star as the King Young Jo, the father of Prince Sah Do.

Now the YAI is old enough to be believable in  a wider range of roles, I think he will likely be the "Kim Myung Min" of his generation !  Looking forward to his interpretation of Crown Prince Sado but not so happy to imagine the final scenes.  Glad it is a movie instead of a longer drama!

Actress Moon Geun Young has received a casting offer for the movie “Sado,” (working title) and is carefully considering it.

A representative from the actress’s agency, Namoo Actors, told TV Report on May 8, “It is true that the offer was received for ‘Sado’ but nothing has been decided as of now. Moon Geun Young will think over it carefully, as it could be her first comeback to the big screen after eight years since ‘Love Me Not.’ She will need some more time before coming to a decision.”

The director of the movie, Lee Joon Ik, is known for many high-grossing films such as “The King and the Clown.” This movie will be Lee Joon Ik’s second historical movie since “Battlefield Heroes,” which was released three years ago.

In other related news, actor Song Kang Ho has already been confirmed for the role of King Yeongjo in “Sado.”

@maea18 Thank you for starting the thread.

I look forward to this film mostly for Song Kang-Ho and the subject matter.

MGY looks lovelier than she had looked in years in her newer photos.

YOO Ah-in and MOON Geun-young Confirmed for SADO

Will Join SONG Kang-ho in LEE Joon-ik’s Latest

tdKbRvuYPaFiCTbPyvAP.jpg

The period drama Sado is quickly shaping up to be one of next year’s biggest offerings as stars YOO Ah-in and MOON Geun-young joined the already announced SONG Kang-ho in the LEE Joon-ik picture. In the film, YOO will appear as Sado, the crown prince who sentenced to a gruesome death by his own father, King Yeongjo played by SONG. Coincidentally, the famous story is alluded to in the current blockbuster hit The Fatal Encounter which stars Hyun Bin as King Jeongjo, the son of Sado. YOO, the star on 2011’s Punch and last year’s Tough as Iron, is currently in the middle of shooting RYOO Seung-wan’s Veteran alongside HWANG Jung-min. Meanwhile, MOON makes her long-awaited return to the big screen. Though active on television, she has not appeared in a film since 2006’s Love Me Not. The first cast member attached, SONG chose Sado as his return project following his blockbuster 2013, which saw him appear in three of the four most popular Korean films of the year (Snowpiercer, The Face Reader and The Attorney). Director LEE returns to big budget filmmaking after the award-winning Hope. He previously made the period hit King and the Clown (2005). Sado, which will be distributed by Showbox/Mediaplex, being production in July.

Yoo Ah-in set for 'Sado' role?

photo435251.jpg

Moon Geun-young and Yoo Ah-in

Yoo Ah-in, from the JTBC drama "Secret Love Affair", is considering joining director Lee Joon-ik's historical film "Sado" as the title role.

In the film, he will play the son of King Yeongjo of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910). Experienced actorSong Kang-ho, of the 2014 "The Attorney", will take on the part of Yeongjo.

"Yoo has been deliberating over starring in the film for a while", noted an official from the film's distributor, Showbox, to local media.

Besides Yoo and Song, actress Moon Geun-young, 27, is rumored to star as Lady Hyegyeong, portraying the complex feelings she experienced after her husband, Prince Sado, is killed because of the pressures of her own father's political sect.

Moon's agency, Namoo Actors, nonetheless refused to give concrete answers about the upcoming movie because there are still some details that it needs to discuss with the production team. "The film might be Geun-young's comeback to the big screen after eight years, so we want to make everything is perfectly arranged".

Director Lee Joon-ik's team plans to start filming the movie in fall.

Yoo Ah In and Moon Geun Young confirmed for Sado!!!!

https://m.facebook.com/notes/moon-geun-young-international-fanclub/yoo-ah-in-confirms-for-sado-followed-by-kim-hae-suk-moon-geun-young-and-more/826289287407223/?refid=22&__tn__=C

Following the news on Yoo Ah In being courted as the Crown Prince Sado for the movie Sado or 사도 (working title), director Lee Jun Ik officially announced the confirmed star-studded casts that will frontline his project today.

Media outlets stated that Director Lee Joon Ik, who responsible forThe King and the Clown; the highest grossing Korean film of 2005, and the award winning movie Wish(2013), is making the strongest line-up by adding four new names in his casting line.

Previously reported, senior actor Song Kang Ho, has confirmed to play King Yeongjo. Yoo Ah In, who has just finished the hit series Secret Love Affair, will take on the role as the Crown Prince Sado, whom his own father, King Yeongjo, ordered him to climb into and be sealed within a large wooden rice chest till he died.

Moon Geun Young, making a comeback to the widescreen after eight years, will play as Lady Hye Gyeong, Prince Sado’s wife; the mother of Yi San who became King Jeongjo, and she will witness her husband’s execution. Later she wrote The Memoirs of Lady Hyegyeong, detailing her life as the ill-fated Crown Princess, her husband’s descent into madness and deeds for which he was eventually put to death.

Yoo Ah In reunites again with senior actress Kim Hee Seok, his mother in Tough As Iron who will turn to his grandmother, an influential figure Queen So Chon Song in this movie. Very well fit!

Actress Jeon Hye Jin (Obsessed, 2014) is introduced as the Crown Prince mother and King Yeongjo’s wife, Lady Sonhui. Her boundless love for her only son prevented Lady Sonhui from blaming the Crown Prince for all the turmoil. However, the fear about the future of the four-hundred-year-old Yi dynasty led her to a momentous decision: she had to protect the king, even though it meant giving up her only son.

Meanwhile, actor Park Won Sang (Medical Cross, 2014) also confirmed the cast as Sado’s opponent.

During the 19th century, there were rumors that Prince Sado had not been mentally ill, but had been framed. Sado’s death remains an issue of debate to whether his death was a retribution for his actual misconduct or if he was the victim of a conspiracy by his political opponents. With complicated character that Sado had, Yoo Ah In is expected to bring the new spectrum of acting as the wretched crown prince.

In his recent interview with cine21, director Lee Jun Ik said that he was inspired by Masaky Kobayashi’s movie “Harakiri”, and he would create Sado in a saga/imagination style. The idea of making Sado is based on his thought that they’ve got mountains of stories about fathers killing sons and sons killing fathers, but barely story about Yeongjo-Sado tragedy. While there are so many stories relate to Sado, most of the time they were more about the Great Yeongjo and Jeongjo while objectifying Sado. Therefore he plans to make Sado in a new and different point of view.

Sado plans to crank in on July this year, and will release sometimes next year.

In the role of Prince Sado is Yoo Ah-in; it's highly anticipated to see how he will perform the tragic role of a prince who died after being locked up in a wooden chest by his father.

Kim Hae-sook takes on the role of Queen In Won. She played Yoo Ah-in's mother in "Tough as Iron", but this time she is his grandmother. Jeon Hye-jin-II from "Obsessed" is the birth mother of the Prince who had no choice but to tell the king of her son's treason.

"Sado" began its scriptwriting in December 2013 and was completed shortly. Many are anticipating the synergy that will be given off by Song Kang-ho, Yoo Ah-in, Moon Geun-young, Kim Hae-sook, Park Won-sang and Jeon Hye-jin-II.
