Michael Tse denies new series plagiarised "Double Tap"

Saturday August 31, 2013 Hong Kong
    Source

Hong Kong actor Michael Tse recently dispelled rumours of plagiarism concerning his new TVB series.

As reported on Wenweipo website, previously, his new series, "Sniper Standoff" has been the subject of scrutiny in online forums, with netizens claiming that the series is a copycat of the late Leslie Cheung movie, "Double Tap", based on the similarities between the series' promotional poster and trailers with the 2000 film.

The actor, who attended the interview on Commercial Radio with Ekin Cheng, Jordan Chan and the rest of the original "Young And Dangerous" cast on 28 August, dismissed allegations of plagiarism, and said that most posters and trailers with guns look similar to one another.

Michael stated, "Don't just judge the series by its poster and trailer. You can make up your mind about it after actually watching it."

When asked if the accusations of plagiarism upset him, the actor shook his head and said, "It's a good thing to be talked about. It also means that people still remember Leslie's movies."

Michael also admitted to having watched the movie, but did not refer to it for research while filming "Sniper Standoff". He also assured that the series and movie are completely different.

Yesterday Michael Tse, Kate Tsui, Eddie Cheung, Kathy Chow, Alice Chan and Eliza Sam attended the promotional event of TVB new series Sniper Standoff. This is Michael's last TVB series before his contract expires. Asked of his future plans? He expressed he wants to concentrate on preparing for the Life of Friends Concert (歲月友情演唱會) held in November and everything else, he'll disclose in 2014. After reporters pursued the question, Michael finally blurted out he opened his own work studio called "Laughing Workshop" and may sign a management contract again. He also welcomes his friends to invest in his workshop. Asked if he'll ask Ekin Cheng, Chin Ka Lok and Jordan Chan to invest? Michael said: "They have their own companies." When asked about returning to TVB, Michael joked: "The condition is I have to work with Kate Tsui and having kiss scenes would be the best. I will be signing a per-series contract with TVB soon."

Eddie laughed and said there are too many big boys in the series, so he didn't have to show his muscles. "I'm the steel bar type, sturdy and no belly fat." Eddie revealed there are many car chase scenes in the series that he personally did himself. TVB brought heavy insurance for him and he had one accident where broken glass flew on his ear. When speaking of his TV rating expectations, Eddie said as long as the ratings surpass 30 points. "I hope to continue Triumph in the Skies II'upward trend!" Kathy also believed there won't be a problem in the ratings; she and Eddie have a relationship in the series.

Yesterday after the event, Kathy flew straight back to Beijing and temporarily won't have any more collaborations with TVB. She is currently concentrating on filming in Mainland and endorsements. This is DJ Andre Yue's first series, he played Kathy's ex-boyfriend in the series. He frankly expressed he was a little frightened when he saw the script. "My first scene was a kiss scene with my goddess Kathy. I was trembling in fear, but then I regret that we ultimately didn't have that scene. We still had strolling at the beach and proposal scenes though."

Eddie Cheung "hits" Alan Wan Because of Eliza Sam

Yesterday Eddie Cheung, Michael Tse, Kate Tsui, Eliza Sam (Heung Heung) and Alan Wan attended the promotional event for TVB series Sniper Standoffheld at a shopping mall. It was rumored "big boy" Alan Wan has been strongly pursuing Heung Heung, when they first took pictures, Eddie was in between them. Eddie joked: "I'm in the middle and in the way!" Alan laughed: "Glad you know!" Eddie and Alan then pretended to fight, pushing and pulling Heung Heung around. The scene was quite interesting to see. Heung Heung laughed loudly. She and Alan both denied the rumor, Heung Heung said: "I'm happy as friends and my career is the priority now. I'm very busy this year."

In last night's episode of Sniper Standoff, Steven Cheung tricked Heung Heung into thinking that saliva could heal blisters, she unexpectedly starts licking her foot. Netizens screen captured the scene, censored out her foot and commented that it was too much. Heung Heung said: "I have to clarify, the disgusting looking blister was created from makeup. I hope the audience won't place too much attention on my body figure. We put in a lot of effort into the filming this time."

In one scene, Michael Tse was climbing a mountain with one hand while talking on the phone with the other, Netizens said there was too much exaggeration in that scene. He frankly expressed it was added on the spot: "Initially I wasn't talking on the phone, I thought to add that part in to make it more dramatic, so my role looks more Chok, courageous and confident. Tom Cruise climbed the mountain with his bare hands in his film, but he wasn't on the phone like I was, I think I'm hotter than him!" Eddie defended the scene was just to create a visual effect. "You cannot watch the series like its real life, you should watch as if its a movie. In real life, there aren't that many explosions. Holding the phone with one hand is just because we hope the audience will remember it." As for Eddie's co-star, Kathy Chow, it was said she aged quite a bit. Eddie supported his partner, its as if she ate preservatives and matches well with him.

Kate appeared in a black-netted dress, but in regards to Heung Heung stealing her limelight? Kate laughed: "She worked so hard in filming the series, she's the only female SDU member, that's prominent. Also, she's really cute! (Are you thinking of becoming a fighter girl?) Nope! Everyone thinks I look like one, perhaps because people know I have a background in dance, but a fighter girl is too tiring and can easily get hurt."

Kate Tsui a Madam with High Heels, Didn't Want to Look Like a Hobbit

Kate Tsui attended SaSa's new store opening ceremony in a low-cut dress. In Kate's new series Sniper Standoff, she recalled personally taking on the dangerous action scenes and unfortunately got injured. "In one scene, I had to be on wires, I accidentally injured my thighs and had bruises all over my two legs. At the time I took pictures for memories. Proves how hard working I am." Kate denied having intentions to establish a 'fighter girl' image, she just tries her best in her roles.

It was said the Madam she portrays in the series often wears high heels. Kate explained: "I am short, so I have to wear high heels to make myself look taller, otherwise I would look like a hobbit standing next to my co-stars." Sniper Standoff replaced Triumph in the Skies II, the TV ratings clearly dropped, but Kate felt there is buffer time needed when a new series premieres. She will try her best to promote and hopes everyone won't put too much pressure on them.

Kathy Chow is unhappy with TVB

    Thurday September 19, 2013
    Source

Rumour has it that actress Kathy Chow is upset about TVB's treatment of her, or lack thereof, during the filming of "Sniper Standoff" and decided to forgo the rest of the promotional activities for the series.

According to East Week magazine, the "Cherished Moments" actress has been keeping her dissatisfaction to herself since she noticed that her comeback was not given as much attention as Esther Kwan's return in "Always And Ever" or Francis Ng's return in "Triumph In The Skies II".

In addition, TVB gave more publicity to her co-star Kate Tsui in "Sniper Standoff", whose popularity has already been on the rise this year.

Kate Tsui was put front and centre in every promotional event and was even given more screen time in the series, despite earlier reports saying that Kathy will get the interesting subplot that involves a love triangle with Eddie Cheung and Michael Tse.

Kathy herself has denied such rumours, but it was speculated that this was not the case as the actress was seen heading back to Beijing immediately after a promotional event recently.

Meanwhile, Kate Tsui recently denied rumours of a fall out with her 46-year-old co-star, saying that the amount of screen time does not matter and that working with Kate was a rare opportunity that she did not take for granted.

Kathy Chow Strides - Lives A Simple and Peaceful Life

Saturday September 21, 2013 Hong Kong
    Source: Apple Daily

Since the 1990s, Kathy Chow had been filming TV series in Hong Kong, China and Taiwan. Due to her romance, she later concentrated her career in Beijing. Although she's in a stable relationship, she has no intention to make any changes to her current status in life since she had already encountered so many different love stories in acting. She just wants a peaceful life and believes she cannot stay still, she must keep on learning until old age.

    Forgets Her Actual Age

This time, Kathy returns to HK for TVB series Sniper Standoff portraying an insurance agent and has several scenes opposite of Eddie Cheung. However, Kathy expressed when she first accepted this series, she found herself a little disappointed. "When I first heard about this police-themed series, I thought they would give me a policewoman role. I actually want to be a Madam, so I felt a little disappointed. In fact, I've portrayed firm characters before. If I wanted to be cool, I can be pretty cool, especially when I don't smile."

During the interview, the reporter mentioned Kathy has really kept her physical appearance well. She laughed: "Don't say that, giving me pressure. I'm not sure if its related to my attitude, but I can never remember how old I am. One time when I was filling out paperwork at the customs, I put down the wrong age, but luckily my assistant caught my mistake. I always tell friends not to think about the word 'old', let nature take its course because people shouldn't be so stuck on being old or not, when there are wrinkles, then there are wrinkles!"

    High Career Ambitions

Based on Kathy's attitude in the interview, she does not only have a firm character, but she is also a person that does not like to stand still. She said: "I do have a little ego, just like today when I was picking out my outfit, I only think whether I'm going to be comfortable, and not whether I'm going to look sexy. I just want to be myself, even if I've portrayed many different roles on-screen, but during interviews I want to be myself. I try to tell people as much as I can that I am just that type of person."

As for as her love life, Kathy began concentrating her career in Beijing in 2003 because of her relationship, but after many years she still doesn't have plans for marriage. "It doesn't feel like its been 10 years, but I haven't planned anything. You ask me why? I don't think its necessary, its not like I want to have children. As long as my relationship is stable now, there is no need to do so much. Also I'm busy too and haven't thought of a reason yet, why should I get married? Let nature take its course!" Asked if she has consensus with her architect boyfriend Mr. Lau? She said: "He thought about it before, but it was me who kept rejecting him. He doesn't mention it now. I think there are a few things in life that are very important, I must do them, just like getting married and having children. But in my life, I don't need marriage or children, I actually want to pursue my dreams, have my own career and continue to try new things. I'm thinking about working behind-the-scenes, find good scripts and come up with plots."

    Wedding Dress Dreams Crushed

Asked if Kathy is planning to make investments into producing TV series/films? She frankly expressed: "No, there are so many people in China, there will bound to be someone willing to make the investment. I actually think the story is more important. A good story is hard to find. Also, I still have interest working on-screen, and I'm not so wrinkled that nobody wants to watch me yet. I still enjoy working a lot."

Kathy expressed honestly she did have the desire to get married before, but unfortunately because she had done so many wedding scenes in TV series that it crushed her wedding dress dreams. "Back then when I was filming series, I always wear wedding dresses, or maybe the pre-modern and ancient styled wedding dresses, I didn't count how many times, but a conservative estimate is probably 10-20 times. So, I eventually lost the interest and feeling for it. TVB crushed my wedding dress dreams!"

Because of filming so many love stories, Kathy has even lost her desire to find love. "Yeah, so I like a simple and peaceful life. How can there be that many spectacular and dramatic love stories. Humans just work, eat and sleep. In the eye of an average viewer, an artist has a really colorful life, but my life is not colorful at all, its just peaceful."

    Felt Lost Like a Corpse

Even if Kathy knows how to plan fo herself and have her own lifestyle, she still cannot avoid moments of feeling lost. She said: "I remember my second time filming in Taiwan, at the time my love life wasn't going too well, each day at work I felt like a corpse. One day I was chatting with a Taiwanese senior, I said I feel like I'm dead, no sign of life, but that senior gave me a clever response. He said the majority of the human's time is death! I felt even more lost when he said that to me, but I did think deeply about this comment. Sometimes in life, it is impossible that you will find so much excitement every moment every second unless you're inside a character, then you can find that kind of life. Because when I portray the character, the experiences won't always be encountered, so that's why acting is just a lot of fun. You can experience different lives. Thereafter, I haven't encountered that senior again, but his comment really helped me. Every individual goes through different stages in life, why do people always think they're so miserable? Because they give themselves too much pressure. Sometimes the thoughts go wrong, but I really rely on fate and view everything optimistically. If I cannot do it, then fine, there will be another opportunity. I really know how to comfort myself."

Kate Tsui Feels Unhappy Audience Can't Accept "Sniper Standoff"

Friday Otober 4, 2013 Hong Kong
    Source: Oriental Daily
    Translated by: aZnangel @ http://asianuniverse.net

Yesterday Kate Tsui, Eliza Sam, Steven Cheung and the rest of the cast of TVB series Sniper Standoff attended the promotional event. The cast played games on stage, but when Kate was asked to have two guys lift her up, so she can make a shot, she declined because she was wearing a short shirt and kept saying, "can't do it" and then added, "it's too dangerous!" Miki Yeung took over for Kate, who also had shorts on. Steven didn't hesitate to lift rumored girlfriend Eliza Sam up with the help of Nathan Ngai.

In the series, Kate has many action scenes, but all of her explosion scenes didn't do anything to her. Not even the most severe explosion could kill her, Netizens crowned her as the 'superwoman' and made a video with all her explosion scenes in the series. However, Kate didn't know how to smile and sighed she feels helpless that the Netizens still can't accept the story line. "I feel a little unhappy because we put in so much effort into filming the series, all those difficult scenes, and I did a lot of research myself. I watched foreign TV series and I just feel helpless the audience can't accept it. I hope they will slowly accept a series with an original story again!"

Kate's costume from the series had also been a hot topic lately, Netizens were saying its illogical for a Madam to be wearing high heels on duty. Kate expressed she discussed this matter with the producer and director: "I have a friend who is an actual Madam, she wears high heels while at work. We did all our homework and I hope the audience can show some understanding for us! (Next time wear a bikini?) I'm an old lady, leave that for the young women! I think I'll scare away the audience and get even more complaints. I'll break records!"

A few days ago Steven and Eliza were spotted shooting a hand-holding scene, which sparked rumors between them. At the promotion, the two did not avoid one another and took pictures together. Eliza laughed: "We are still in our costumes, proves the success and I just think of it as promotion." Steven dragged Eliza's other rumored boyfriend, Alan Wan, into the water and joked: "Alan and I are the actual pair! He didn't come today, I kind of miss him!"

"Immortal" Kate Tsui Dies in 'Sniper Standoff' Finale But Surprisingly Still Breathing

Saturday October 12, 2013 Hong Kong
    Source: Mingpao
    Translated by: aZnangel @ http://asianuniverse.net

Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

Since TVB series Sniper Standoff premiered, it had been getting criticisms nonstop. Netizens said the story didn't make any sense, and mocked the leads Eddie Cheung, Michael Tse and Kate Tsui being super human since they can easily dodge bullets and Kate's character can't seem to die even after experiencing several explosions, she just got minor injuries.

Last night Sniper Standoff's finale aired and Netizens continued with the criticisms. Kate finally broke away from her "immortal body" label, she took in a gunshot for Kathy Chow and ends up dying from the serious injury. The most hilarious moment was when after Kate dies, the audience could clearly see she was still breathing as her chest went up and down. Netizens teased: "Dead people can still breathe? There is another mistake at Madam's death, please just hold your breath!"

Michael Tse's character also couldn't avoid death. After he got on the police's list of most wanted, he captured Alice Chan's father and brother to threaten Eddie for a final battle, but he deliberately loaded one less bullet into his gun, so Eddie could kill him in one shot. The gun fight scene resembled a scene inThe Matrix, when Keanu Reeves dodged the bullet. After Michael's death, Alice suddenly gets brought back to the police station just in time to see Michael's death. She runs over, embraces Michael and sobs severely. Netizens thought that was strange that she suddenly came at the right time.

Kathy Chow suddenly faints during the hearing at the court, she said she has a bullet stuck in her brain and needs to get surgery to remove it. However, the story never explained that part again. The next scene was fast forwarded to a few years later, Eddie encounters Kathy again on the street. Kathy appeared with longer hair, but unfortunately she lost her memory and forgot who Eddie was. Eddie told her he was her boyfriend and successfully invited her to lunch where they could chat more. Netizens criticized TVB for using the same outdated "lost of memory" endings and also it didn't make sense.
