Story : A star-crossed love destiny between Han Tae Sang 한태상 (Song Seung Hoon) a business man in his 40s who went through a lonely childhood after he was abandoned as a child
and Seo Mi Do 서미도 (Shin Se Kyung), a bright and cheerful girl in her 20s who never gave up her dreams despite growing up in poverty.

Song Seung-heon picks new drama, When A Man Loves

It’s only been half a year since Dr. Jin called it a day, but Song Seung-heon is coming back with another MBC drama series. Y…ay?

This one’s called When A Man Loves, and I sincerely hope this drama’s answer to that isn’t “…he travels through a wormhole and also falls in love with the doppelganger, because why have one true love when you can have two?” The object of his affections is Shin Se-kyung (Fashion King), which is interesting in that she seems like the exact same type of actress as his Dr. Jin co-star Park Min-young: pretty, young, sweet, gets the job done, though sometimes possessing of a frustrating emotional block. Coincidentally, both leads headlined seriously questionable WTF dramas in the past year; perhaps they’re looking for redemption?

Both Song and Shin are in final negotiations, which means that the casting isn’t technically finalized, but most outlets are treating it as a done deal. We don’t have much info on the plot yet, only that the hero is a junior member in a crime organization, and when he falls for a young woman, the two are swept up in the whirlpool of passionate romance. Yeah, more details would really help, since basically that just tells us that Boy In Gang Meets Girl, Probably Loses Girl, Possibly Gets Girl Back.

It sounds like a melodrama driven by an strong love story, which is something I can picture given the producers attached: When A Man Loves comes from the director of Arang and the Magistrate and the writer of Equator Man. So at least this time they’re both in good hands.

The drama’s already got a timeslot, and will take up the Wednesday-Thursday broadcast window after Level 7 Civil Servant ends in April.

The first script reading from upcoming MBC drama took place.

MBC recently released pictures of the main actors of their upcoming drama “When A Man Falls in Love” in their first scrip reading.

The reading took place on February 18th, at the MBC Dream Center in Ilsan, and besides Song Seung Hun, Shin Se Kyung, supporting roles Yeon Woo Jin & Chae Jung Ahn, as well as others were also present.

Their reading went well, as their atmosphere was very smooth and very professional, while the actors read and acted some of the scenes.

“When A Man Falls in Love” directed by Kim Sang Ho (Arang and The Magistrate, A Man and A Woman) and written by Kim In Young (Man From the Equator, A Man and A Woman) is about a man (Song Seung Hun) in his mid-30s who falls in love with his late boss' woman. He then meets a younger woman (Shin Se Kyung) and falls in love with her too because of her lovely yet strong personality that reminds him of himself when he was younger.

The drama is expected to air after “Level 7 Civil Servant” ends in early April.

Upcoming MBC TV Wed-Thu drama ‘When a Man Loves’ begun filming on February 24th, and is scheduled to last for more than 3 months.

The production team has released a set of photos on February 26th, giving fans a first look at the images of Song Seung Heon, Shin Se Kyung, Yeon Woo Jin, and Chae Jung An in the drama.

Shin Se Kyung (cast as Seo Mi Do) and Yeon Woo Jin (cast as Lee Jae Hee) filmed their first scene where they meet each other at a welfare organization in Seoul’s Jongro district. Shin Se Kyung is clad in a casual outfit, and this was a showing of how unfortunate Mi Do was in her teens. Meanwhile, Yeon Woo Jin was clad in a thick winter outfit with round-rimmed glasses, showing off the teen look of Lee Jae Hee.

Shin Se Kyung filmed a scene where she had a brush with Yeon Woo Jin’s character, and immediately expresses her apology. Despite it being a serious scene, many were left with laughter during the filming of this. Shin Se Kyung also kept a happy look on her face throughout the shoot, despite being clad in simple clothing against the cold weather, and was immersed in the filming.

Song Seung Heon (cast as Han Tae Sang) and Chae Jung An (cast as Baek Sung Joo) filmed their first scene at a specialty store in Gangnam, Seoul. Song Seung Heon was clad in a black suit, and sported a stubble, showing his manly charisma as Han Tae Sang who has experienced ups and downs in his life. It was not just his looks, as Song Seung Hun also imposed him as Han Tae Sang with his delivery of his lines, and created the image of the lead character Han Tae Sang perfectly.

Chae Jung An meanwhile was clad in a truffle white blouse, displaying the arrogant and confident personality of Baek Sung Joo. Despite getting the cold shoulder from Han Tae Sang, Chae Sung Joo continues to display her confident charisma that makes it hard for others to push her away.

Director Kim Sang Ho personally directed the cast members on how to approach filming their respective scenes, and also exchanged opinions constantly with them, showing his passion towards the cast, drama, and the overall chemistry. He also showed his leadership by guiding the team with a gentle smile and with authority, leading the team to film in perfect conditions at the set.

Director Kim Sang Ho had worked with the same production team for ‘Arang and the Magistrate’ and ‘Can You Hear My Heart’, and thus they all were like one big family, being familiar with one another and having great chemistry. Although it was their first filming for ‘When a Man Loves’, everyone trusted each other and worked in tandem to complete filming on a successful note.

Yeon Woo Jin said, “I worked with the same production team for ‘Arang and the Magistrate’, so everyone knew each other well, and it was a comfortable experience. Shin Se Kyung has a bright and cheerful personality, and the first filming session was done in an amiable environment,” showing his concern towards his fellow cast member.

‘When a Man Loves’ talks of a man who experiences love for the first time in his life, and will take over from ‘7th Grade Civil Servant’ in April.
